honestly, having worked for a huge company (i was scouted by them but i did review resumes) a lot of those companies have so many applicants that you have to know someone to even get your resume looked at.
another tip though: look at the job description and get those key words in there! my company used natural language processing to filter out candidates, so it would look for specific words describing the requirements of that job. tailor your resume to each job and try to get as many experience/skill requirements in the job description as you can into your resume before submitting. they often use technology to filter/screen resumes and will even give you a score out of 100 based on the fit.
oh and look for industry days/hiring events held by them. if you're in school, sometimes those companies will come to your campus looking for entry-level people

Girl, girl, girl!! My past experience working as a receptionist is that they will walk over you if you let them. Never agree to do extra duties if you don't have them in writing and written in your job description and make sure you're being compensated properly. You do your job so well thinking you'll get a promotion meanwhile they give you more and more duties with no intention of promoting you. The disrespect!! I was getting so mad you telling this story!!

I worked at a preschool for years, and I was in THE SAME BOAT, girl 🙄 I was hired as the "chef" at the school, with the understanding that I was to cook 2 meals (AM and PM snack) a day (and plan the menu and shop for the food every week), and that I was also in charge of the school's laundry and the basic surface cleaning (like dusting/sweeping the main lobby, cleaning the glass, etc.) By the time I quit that job, I was expected to do all that, clean up the classrooms (the teacher's individual jobs, not mine), step into the classroom when needed as an aide (I have some early childhood education credits), to sit at the reception desk when admin wasn't available (which turned into covering someone's lunch break EVERY DAY), and handle whatever projects my boss could think up. I quit because she had a constant issue with my ACTUAL job not being done, even when I told her I couldn't do 2-3 jobs in one day. I can't stand that type of boss!

I had a manager who was TWENTY ONE (I was 35!) who would lecture me on life lessons, protocol, etc when I’d worked at the location wayyyyyyy longer than her. The only reason she got the manager spot was because NO ONE else applied. We made more money in our current positions than the manager salary. Why would I step UP and take a pay cut + a ton more responsibility!? I wouldn’t! So to have this person right out of high school who was barely old enough to buy alcohol, tell me how to do my job that I’d be doing WAY ABOVE WELL, for years, was awful. I eventually quit. I couldn’t hang.
