  • A brief introduction to Lean production. This video is part of the #POM4all initiative by Prof. T. Netland at ETH Zurich. Feel free to use all #POM4all videos as you please in your studies and lectures:)
This video is an introduction to Lean production, which is a complex socio-technical business phenomenon. The video takes an industrial engineering perspective and introduces fundamental lean principles and key methods. The expression 'Lean production' was first introduced by an MIT-led international team of researchers carrying out the International Motor Vehicle Program, and the authors Womack, Jones and Roos published the landmark book 'The Machine That Changed the World' which provided rich detail of the benchmark study and popularized lean far beyond the automobile industry. The video also highlights that lean production is often reduced to a focus on value creating processes and misses the essential support processes, such as leadership and culture building. The video also mentions the five lean principles.
The lecture takes an industrial engineering perspective. It does not cover behavioral and cultural aspects of lean, although those elements are just as important. The five lean principles of Womack and Jones (1996) are presented alongside some of the most popular and known tools in lean production.

I watched it again! Noticed - when Muri is addressed, Mura & Muda automatically decrease; and Muda decreases further, when Mura is dealt with. Finally, there will still be some Muda to eliminate. Is my observation correctly interpreted?
