I have heard various pastel painters praise of Sennelier Paris Collection so when I was able to purchase the set I was very disappointed to find out just how soft they are. Many sticks crumble with light pressure. A break would allow it to be used still but the crumbled bits are unusable. I wish someone had mentioned this before I purchased it. I would rather have a not so soft Unison which does not have holes throughout the sticks as Sennelier does and does not crumble with use..much better to use in my opinion..
Thank you for the effort put into maki g your videos and editing etc showing us painting g texniques tutorials I appreciate it so much and have learned so much form you , THANK YOU SUSAN💕💕💕💕💕💕
I always learn something new and with so many questions, your videos are fun and help improve my art journey. Perhaps you answered this in a video I have yet to watch: How do I store my piece when finished? So many opinions on fixative. Loved your alcohol painting. Gotta go watch some more videos Thanks. Your work is very lovely.
I got the Paris pastels from Sennelier. What I dont like is there are no color numbers, theres no way you can reorder just individual sticks. I even wrote to the company asking and never got a word back.
Yes, I absolutely agree! It would be nice if they included a print out of the colors in order along with their corresponding numbers. I recently did a search myself to try to find some answers to this with no luck. Let me know if you find out something from the company.
It was interesting to see the color chart that you had made to keep track what which color is which. I bought a small set of Art Spectrum Square Soft Pastels recently in Reds and it comes with a little sheet with boxes and the numbers so you can paint a little swatch in each box and make a color chart.
HI Susan. So what I think I am hearing you say is that you should use a harder pastel for the underpainting portion and then a softer for the finishing layers? Also, what brand of pastel pencil do you use? I've watched several of your videos but have yet to see you use a pastel pencil. Thanks and God bless you for doing these videos. Hugs, Renee
Renee Kroyer Yes you are correct. As a general rule… Use harder pastels first and softer ones last. This of course is a flexible rule and sometimes you just have to use what you have. I have some pastel pencils but I rarely use them. I’ll have to check again to see what brand they are. Happy painting!
The first box of Richeson set of 60 are their Medium Soft, not their Soft hand rolled sticks. They are really nice, I like them much better than other medium pastels and you get a lot for the price, though no really darks in the full set of 120. I do prefer the SOFT Richesons.
Sathish Kumar Oh, I happen to love Unison pastels! I have many of them mixed in my main pastel palette. I wish I had mentioned them and also Girault pastels. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💜
🙂 🙂 🙂 ❤, @kymcrowart7876 not a stupid question at all. I use the corners and sides for smaller details. Or a pastel pencil, if needed. I don't sharpen the soft pastel sticks, but rather just change the positioning to use a side or corner. I also break them sometimes to get smaller pieces for different mark making.
I don't have photos of all of my sets, but I do have my Amazon shop with links to many of the sets of pastels I have and recommend. Here is a link to my "idea lists" with lots of pastel painting products. www.amazon.com/shop/monetcafewithartistsusanjenkins
Have you ever tried koh-i-noor? I am waiting for an order of 48 extra soft round ones and a separate 48 hard. Hope they’ll do me good. I have 26 regular pastels from them, but never tried any other brand yet. Maybe next year I’ll try sennelier since everyone seem to love them
I literally just contacted the company to see if they could get me a complementary set for a video review. I’ve heard some pretty good things about their product so hopefully you will have some success!
Karen Hinson do you mean the great American set of Richard McDaniel? If so, I think they are similar in softness… But I prefer the Terri Ludwig’s. The great American pastel seem to apply a bit more thickly and don’t glaze over the surface as smoothly as Terry Ludwigs👍🏻

Sathish Kumar Oh, I happen to love Unison pastels! I have many of them mixed in my main pastel palette. I wish I had mentioned them and also Girault pastels. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💜
Quanto costano dite il prezzo
Is there a way to sharpen them to get a point? I know this is stupid question but how do you get the tiny details like eyes?

Loved your collection
Do you have photos of your pastel sets you could share online? I am interested in the Nupastel set of 90 and any other brands.

Do you think McDaniel pastels are softer than Ludwig?
