When I was first married (in the 70s), these 2 motorcycle cops who were also brothers used to take turns pulling me over fairly regularly for stupid things and just give me warnings. I drove our gold colored 66 pickup.
My husband also worked for that city and was working on one of the mowers in the mechanic shop one day when they were waiting for their bikes to be serviced. He heard them discussing "the hot babe in the ancient gold color pickup." Turns out they were trying to get a date and were trying to manufacture a reason to ask.
A few days later he saw one of them coming up behind the truck as he was driving home after dropping me at my job. I'd left my big sun hat on the seat. He put it on, tipped it to hide his bearded face and slipped the clutch to imitate my driving.
Cop pulls up beside him, hubby turns his bearded face toward the cop, pulls the cigar from his mouth, smiles and blows the cop a kiss.
I never got bothered by them again.

When I was young and stupid a cop spun around to chase me down. I was waiting on the side of the road, he ask why I stopped. "Knew you were after me." He ask how fast I was going... Don't know, from wheel wasn't on the ground. (Fast bike) he said over 85... about right. He wrote me 60 in a 55, and told me not to fight it. :)

I was passing through a small town at 2:00 in the morning and got pulled over. I knew I wasn't speeding and I knew all my lights worked. So when I was asked "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I answered with "Because you were bored and wanted someone to talk with. So what do you want to talk about?"
we shot the breeze for about 5 minutes then I said "Well, I'm tired I want to go home so you have a great night." His reply was "You have a good night, too."
    😆😂

Your example of getting a 'running a red light' ticket for something the officer simply could not have been witness to is a perfect reason that everyone that owns a vehicle should have a dash camera.

I was 59 when this happened a couple of years ago:
I ride an extremely fast motorcycle and I'd just gotten it back after having the carburators rebuilt so needed to test it.
I drove out to a six mile long straight road that might see 10 cars a day to test it.
I was doing OVER 165 (you lay flat on the bike with you legs streched out behind you, behind the tiny windscreen because the wind pressure if you were sitting upright would be trying to tear you off the bike / pull you backwards so hard you have trouble gripping the handle bar) when I see a car in the distance so I let off the throttle and start coasting down. About the time I was around 125 and had raised upright the car was close enough to see it had lights on top...
So I started braking and as soon as I could pulled over and got off the bike and walked back a few feet and was getting my driver's license and my insurance slip out of my wallet.
I could see the County Sheriff vehicle turning around about half a mile down the road and it pulled up behind me and a female officer stepped out.
As she walked towards me she said "Do you know why I............."
    Long pause
    "Why did you stop?"
I told her the story, true, that I'd just gotten the bike running after months and I'd come to this isolated area to test it. That when I saw 'her' I was speeding but as a normally law abiding citizen I take responsibility for my actions. So here was my ID and insurance.
She was like a fish out of water and after about a minute of silence she said "Wait here", and went back to run my info which came back clean.
She told me she appreciated me stopping and my attitude but she was going to write me a ticket, which she handed to me. She said I clocked you going over 150, please slow down, we have lots of single vehicle fatal accidents on the rural roads.
    And she left.
I looked at the ticket and she'd written it for going 75 in a 65. Cool lady and not with an authoritarian mindset like so many officers nowadays.

Cop pulls a man over and asks for the usual info. The man replies "Well sir, I don't have a license I lost it after my 3rd DUI. In fact this isn't my car but I think I saw the registration in the glove box when I put my gun in there." The cop replies "you have no license and a gun in the glove box?" "Yes sir."he states politely " I always put my gun in the glove box after I put the car owner's body in the trunk." The cop is silent for moment and says "You stole this car and have a gun in the glove box and a body in the trunk? You stay right there and don't make a move!" as he begins to retreat with his hand on his weapon and calling for backup.
10 Minutes later the guy is still sitting in his car and the entire block is cordoned off. helicopters are flying overhead and SWAT has him entirely surrounded. Cautiously, the police sergeant approaches the man and asks for any ID. "Sure no problem" replies the man handing him all the proper registration for the car and his DL. "Open the trunk" the sergeant orders and the man complies. The trunk is empty. " I don't understand . . . . " the sergeant says. "The reporting officer said you had stolen the car, murdered the owner and were armed."
"Oh wow." the man replied " What a jerk ! I can't believe He'd do that! Probably said I was speeding too!"

Steve...I watched your Video on Traffic Tickets when it came out with much enthusiasm. On Aug. 13th I was between Idaho Falls and West Yellowstone at about Midnight. It is a small two lane road and at that time of night probably the only soul traveling within 40 miles or more. I came upon a 45mph Speed Limit and slowed from 60mph to 45mph at the Sign. The only thing in that area was a Gas Station on the left. After passing the Gas Station I went a little way and did not see any further Signs ahead in the long dark desolate road ahead and began accelerating up to the 60mph posted earlier. Suddenly in the empty of the night were beautiful lights behind me. I remembered your advice and pulled over in a Safe Place, Turned Off the Engine and Rolled the Window Down Fully. Just as the Officer approached I turned toward him and said "Officer, for your Protection I am going to Place Both my Hands on the Steering Wheel" to which he replied "Thank You". He then asked me if i knew why i was being stopped. I replied I had no idea why i had been pulled over. He said the reason he stopped me was because he had me in a 45mph zone with both his Front and Rear Radar indicating 59mph in a 45mph zone. I respectfully said that I deliberately slowed to 45mph at the sign and only resumed 60mph after passing the Gas Station. We bantered back & forth a bit always being Respectful. He then asked for the Vehicle Registration and Proof of Insurance. I then told the Officer I was going to let go of the Steering Wheel with my Right Hand to retrieve the requested items from the Glove Box to which he replied "Go Ahead". I gave him the Paper Work at which point he then asked for my Drivers License. I asked for Permission to let go of the Steering Wheel with my Right Hand in order to retrieve it from my shirt pocket. He said "Go Ahead". He then said "Wait Here for a Minute" and walked to his Patrol Car. After a minuet or two he came back and said he was "Letting me Off with a Warning". Handed me back my items and said to watch the 45mph Speed Limits ahead.
About an hour and a half later I was in the Rear Parking Lot of the Yellowstone Lodge in Yellowstone Park when again I se in the empty of the night were beautiful lights behind me! Again I remembered your advice and pulled over in a Safe Place, Turned Off the Engine and Rolled the Window Down Fully. Just as the Officer approached I turned toward her and said "Officer, for your Protection I am going to Place Both my Hands on the Steering Wheel" to which she replied "Thank You". She then asked me if I knew why I was being stopped. I replied I had no idea why I had been pulled over. She said the reason she stopped me was I failed to use my Turn Signal when turning into the Parking Lot. I never expected that one! Honestly, I don't know if I did or not. She then asked for the Vehicle Registration and Proof of Insurance. I then told the Officer I was going to let go of the Steering Wheel with my Right Hand to retrieve the requested items from the Glove Box to which she replied "Go Ahead". I gave her the Paper Work at which point she then asked for my Drivers License. I asked for Permission to let go of the Steering Wheel with my Right Hand in order to retrieve it from my shirt pocket. She said "Go Ahead". She then said "Wait Here for a Minute" and walked to her Patrol Car. After a long wait she came back and said she was "Letting me Off with a Warning". Handed me back my items and said to "Signal when Turning".
Draw your own Conclusions folks... but I am Convinced the Procedures Outlined in Steve's Video on How to get Out of a Traffic Ticket got me out of Two Tickets in One Night!!!
Thank You Mr Steve Lehto :)

In 1971 I bought a new Dodge Challenger. I am crusing down the road when I see Metro Nashville Police going the other way. Watching him in my rear view mirror I see him do a wild bat turn and turn on his lights. As we are the only only ones on the road I pull over and pull out my license. I have no idea what is going on. The zofficer walks us and says "what are you drinking Mr Baron?" I replied " I'm not, I'm chewing tobbaco" as I spit in the Frisca can. He throws my license at me and runs to his car. I watch him get to the front of his car and pukes his guts out as I drive off. 49 years and I am still laughing.

In 1981 as I was being transferred from Great Lakes naval base to Pensacola I was traveling through Nashville in my souped up 63 beetle at a higher than normal speed. I caught the eye of a state trooper who came through the median and pulled me over.
When he asked if I knew why he stopped me I said I did not. He informed me it was because my car did not have bumpers.
In disbelief I looked at him and told him the car was registered in Iowa and bumpers were not a requirement.
He told me he was going to impound my car until I put bumpers on, at which time I showed him my transfer orders and asked him if he want to be responsible for making me UA (unauthorized absence). The stun and confused look in his eyes was priceless. He handed back my orders and license and told me to get bumpers when I got to my destination.
I installed the most beautiful set of T bars I could find.
Never tell the police why you think they stopped you.

Many, MANY years ago (when cars were pulled by horses), I was pulled over for doing 58 in a 45 zone. I tried responding with "Yes, but when I saw your lights, I looked at my speedometer and it showed I was only doing 51." This was suggested by many people over the years - if you're going to get a ticket, try to talk down the speed a little.
The cop's response: "Well, my radar says you were doing 58, so that's what I'm going to cite you for."
In the end, it didn't matter since it was ultimately dismissed; however, it should be a lesson to us all that much of the traffic folk wisdom is WRONG.
On the subject you were speaking of, maybe this will help:
COP: Do you know why I pulled you over?
ME: Well, about a year ago my wife ran off with a cop, and I thought were trying to catch up so you could give her back.

I live out in the country in South Texas. About 35 years ago..
I got pulled over one afternoon. Looked at the officers car and he was 5+ miles outside the small town it belonged to (which I had not driven anywhere near).
Officer : "Do you know why I pulled you over?"
Me : "Cause your lost.. and you're hoping I can tell you how to get back to your jurisdiction."
    Officer : "You were doing 47" ( it's a 45 zone).
Me: "You want to write me a ticket you can follow me to the County Sheriffs office & write it in their parking lot".
Put my foot on the gas and left him standing there. He jumped back in his car and followed me about halfway to the Sheriffs Office before turning off his lights and siren, making a u-turn and driving back toward his town. I went on to the Sheriffs office.
The Sheriff at the time, who I knew casually.. laughed his ass off when he heard what I'd told the guy.
Turned out this small town had been illegally revenue generating out in the county for a while, they stopped soon after that.

So, I once was pulled over and asked the obvious, "do you know why I pulled you over?" (I was speeding, slightly, but I knew I was). I answered short, "no?", in a way that made him have to explain. He asked, "do you know what speed you were doing?". I answered, "no idea, I was busy looking at the traffic in front of me". He went INSANE! He took off his hat, threw it ANGRILY on the ground, started yelling at me, "are you f*ing crazy?! you stupid idiot!". He lost it...
The thing is, my answer, he couldn't use it in court as something damning. A judge would take, "looking at the traffic in front of me", as something positive.

    • @metamorphicorder
      @metamorphicorder 4 роки тому

Thats not really as clever as you think from a logical point of view. While it is a good thing arguably that you are paying attention to the in front of you, as an operator of a motor vehicle, you are responsible for paying attention to the traffic all around you as well as being cognizant of your speed, that may be of lower priority than paying attention to the traffic, but it is still there.
Admitting that you had no idea how fast you were going is admitting that you are not doing all the things a driver is supposed to do.

When I was 18, I had a 1985 Trans Am. I drove that thing like a mad man pretty much always. I was pulled over by the same Indiana state trooper 3 times in one year. The first time, his car was on fire when he pulled up behind me. He was able to rescue his ticket book, and I still got a ticket while I watched his car burn up in my rear view mirror. The last time, I assumed that I was going to jail. I was driving the on ramp for I-70 in Indy, and I was flying when he lit me up. He asked if I had any idea how fast I was going, I told him that I couldn't know because my speedometer only went up to 85mph. Which was true. He let me go completely free. Not even a written warning. Thanks detective S. Bond!

WOW.....you are absolutely right. I have been stopped 3 times in my 58 yrs of driving. I have always said "NO" when the police officer asks me that question. I keep my hands at 10 and 2 and NEVER move once I am stopped.
In 1997 I had my DH in the passenger seat. He suffered from uncontrolled Epileptic Seizures that even with medication were HARD to control. (he died from an ER Drs neglect)
I decided that after the 2nd seizure I would take him to the neurologist he sees in Ann Arbor, MI. (We were going to a city very close to Ann Arbor, for a lunch date with another couple we had been friends with since my DH's 3 yr stint in the US Army.
I had driven about 5 miles and DH had a Grand Mal seizure in the car. I did the cautionary things, and continued on driving, thinking possibly of calling his doctor but before I could dial the phone, he had another Grand Mal. So, I hurriedly completed the phone call to the doctor who told me to take him to the nearest ER. So, I agreed, and decided to drive thru the sleepy little town of Grass Lake MI. Now the MPH speed limit is 25 mph. I was trying to hurry for fear that he would seize again. I was going 5 miles over the speed limit and suddenly this County Sheriff pulls me over. (due to the fact this is a one-horse town I was driving through, my speeding was probably the highlight of his entire DAY.)
When he came up to the car, I recognized him, our daughters played softball together. He asked me "Do you know why I stopped you." ( ALL the while he could see DH twitching & moving around in the passenger seat.
I answered "No, (I'll call him Boob) I don't Boob?
He then asked for the proper paper work, Driver's license, Proof Of Insurance, and registration.
HE NEVER ONCE ASKED if I needed an ambulance, an escort, nothing.
When he got the papers from me he said "YOU were speeding going 5 mph over the speed limit."
To that I said, I'm sorry, but you obviously can see that DH is really having some MEDICAL issues and I need to get him to the nearest ER ASAP. Would you please let me go and give me the ticket later tomorrow when the kids play Softball?"
WOW....that was the wrong thing to do or to say!
Deputy "Boob" then took his ol" sweet time going back to the car, and writing a ticket.
When he handed me the ticket, DH was still having a hard time. Never did he once ask me if I needed help, etc. He told me to not speed when I came back this way later. I didn't DARE say what I was thinking.
    *********************************************************************************
I took DH to the ER, and they admitted him for observation for 24 hours.
Two days later when the schedule Softball game was being played, This Deputy's wife came and sat down right beside me. She knew (from our kids talking) that DH had been ill a couple of days prior, so she asked DH if he was feeling better and DH thanked her for asking however, when she turned to me she asked me some questions about the day, and I told her about her DH Deputy and his ridiculous manner stopping me.
She laughed and said "I'm sorry. Believe it or not, he'd give his own mom a d*mn ticket. It's almost as if when he puts that d*mn uniform on, he's a completely different guy.!!"
(Well, I didn't have to argue with her about that!!!!!!!!!!!! )
She went on to say that several years ago when they were first married she had been stopped by one of her DH's fellow Deputies. When the Deputy came up to the car and saw her, he told her he wasn't going to ticket her, and she said "Oh, sorry, you are going to write that ticket. If I go home and I don't have a ticket for speeding in hand, I am never going to hear the end of it. (He was on patrol and obviously heard that the Deputy was running her license.)
The day after I go the ticket I called the Sheriff's Dept. and talked to this Deputy's immediate Supervisor...and trust me, he nastily told me that no matter what the circumstances were, I was in the wrong, blah, blah, blah. The Supervisor advised I pay the ticket bid me a good day, and promptly hung up the phone.
The day we attended our daughter's softball game, my DH walked over to the Deputy and said. "You have no idea what my wife would have done if I had died during your ridiculous reason to stop her, never did you once ask if she needed an ambulance or some other type of assistance. I'm pretty positive that had I DIED.....she would have sued the sh*t out of the Sheriff Dept and YOU."
Believe it or not Deputy Boob retorted " She was in the WRONG. Speeding is against the law."
    GRRRRRRRRR........
    ********************************************************************************************
Footnote of this story? This guy's wife, divorced him a few years later. Can you blame her? LOL!
Getting back to the story Steve, you are right, you NEVER admit wrong doing....ever!

I replied "I am sorry, I did not know one of my taillights was out". This sent him into a fury as he stated I was not talking about taillights, but that I had run a red light and almost caused him to have an accident, neither of which was true. However, I got a ticket anyway and got yelled at and threatened the entire time. However, if I had replied "Yes we have lights in New Jersey", that would seem to be more of a smart ass answer. I think I was just screwed anyway.

When I would check it, it worked. One morning as I was headed through a small town near my home, I saw the lights go on behind me after I pulled away from the stop sign. When the officer can to the window and before he said anything, I blerted out, "Is my dang tail light out!". He laughed and said, "Yes, ma'am, it is". I told him my exasperation at not being able to catch it not working. He told me it was my right brake light and sent me on my way without even a written warning. Got it fixed later that day.
