I want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has helped me with this. Thank you to all the news outlets who reported this and fellow creators who shared my story. My twitter Penelope Garcias, you've been working overtime, and I seriously wouldn't know half of what I do, without you all. I never expected to get the help I have from strangers on the internet, and I can't stress how thankful I am. *update (March 14th)*
I was able to get on a video call with someone high up at youtube, and I finally got answers to most of my questions. Though we still don’t know who Alex is, but I kind of like that mystery being left unsolved lol. Before getting on this call I agreed that everything would be confidential, and unlike the first call I had, I understand why. The information I was told was what went wrong with my case. Systems that are currently being changed because of what happened to me. The series of unfortunate events that led to this whole ordeal, will soon be obsolete. Do I wish it could have been done without me? Of course. But truthfully this is how holes are spotted, and how they’re fixed. I’m glad that I could be the catalyst for change for other creators both big and small.
But really the most important part, was that they acknowledged that what happened to me wasn’t my fault, and that they were sorry that their system failed me. And though uncomfortable for their internal team to watch, my videos showed them that their current protocol of helping creators with hacking, wasn’t working. And while it sucks that my vlogs were lost in the process, (I’m working on downloading them from web-archives) I was offered an in-person meeting, where I can talk to the team who was on my case, and give them suggestions on how to fix this system for other creators.
After spending almost 5 months dealing with my channels being hacked, and going through all the emotions, feeling crazy, ignored, helpless & frustrated -
I want to work WITH youtube to make my experience the last one of its kind. And they’re on board.
Am I sad I lost my vlogs? Yes. They were years of memories, a cinematic scrapbook, a living diary where I got to watch myself grow up. But thanks to an amazing follower (Krista) and a whole slew of twitter do-gooders, I have playable links on web-archives of a huge chunk of those videos. It’s not the ideal outcome, but truthfully, now those video mean more to me because so many of you helped me get them back.
I learned a lot from this experience. First of all, twitter warriors are fierce, hilarious, and should be hired by the pentagon. Also some of you go a little too hard, please don’t harass and threaten employees. That has NEVER been my goal, and that doesn’t help anyone. I learned that sometimes you have to rock the boat to get the help you need. And weirdly enough, this whole debacle reignited my passion for youtube. As awful as this experience was, I had “fun” making these videos. In a weird way it opened up a new style of content I never would have stumbled upon before.
So will I get what I wanted?

So that’s where we’re at. Sad about the vlogs, relieved that I’m not crazy, and validated with an apology. In the big picture, this had to happen, to someone, and it was happening to small creators. It just so happened that I was the biggest one it happened to. And it took that to garner the right attention, spot the issues, and make a change. So I’m happy that I can find some meaning this shitty situation, it’s what’s bringing a much needed overhaul, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that conversation.

Why does UA-cam social support sound like a 13 year old girl chatting with her best friend. I expected way more sophisticated comments coming from a multi million dollar company.
Multi BILLION dollar company. Its run by google and google is owned by the CIA, they dont care about the consumer or content creators, they use these platforms as a way to control the capitalist narrative, that's why they promote channels that favour the system and oppress channels that dont. These companies are being run by literal facsist oligarchs who work hand in hand with government, commonly known as 'facsism'
We must break these companies up and make them public utilities and regulate them as such. Right now powerful people in these companies are using many loopholes to avoid doing anymore than they have to legally to help us, the users in the never ending pursuit of profit. This is what happens when we allow corporations to control our legislation and politicians and write laws that favour their monopolistic powers.
Long story short, these companies are evil and need to be called to heel by the citizens of the world.

Honestly, coming from someone who has worked in customer service, a lot of companies pride themselves in being "relatable" and "conversational". Basically the emails are from a robot like Siri and everytime it says Hey, I'm ____ it just throws a random name. When the robot doesn't understand or doesn't have the capacity to answer your question, it just says it's "On a holiday", throws another random name, and gives you the same steps to follow because it like, reboots/restarts the system and treats it like you just sent them the first complaint. Seems like Siri and the phone calls for big companies, only thing, is UA-cam lies about it?

Okay so, as a cybersecurity analyst, I cannot imagine how a channel having its email/password changed and then ALL of the videos privated/deleted wouldn't be an obvious sign of hacking in the first place. In my opinion, Lilly's theory is right. Either they've screwed up their recovery process so bad they're trying to cover it up, or they left your ticket open for so long (because laziness prob.) that they missed their window to actually help. Ridiculous!!

Someone hacked my crunchyroll account, changed the email address and spent $70 from my linked card on it. I didn't notice for a few weeks but as soon as I did, I emailed customer support and within a few hours they reset my account back to my email address and refunded me the $70. It was that simple. I don't understand how UA-cam can't reset your account to it's original state before the email address was changed.

Crunchyroll literally took a week with me, and luckily my hackers never got my card info. Like idc if my accounts for services like Crunchyroll that have no streaming limits are used by others. Just don't mess with people's queues, emails, passwords, and usernames. No one cares if you secretly use their accounts if you're not affecting them for the most part.
gemmaellen I have a friend who was really into WoW as a teen but stopped playing after like freshman year of hs. 4 or 5 years later he wanted to play WoW again, forgot his login information, contacts WoW and with the support team able to prove enough that it was his account and they get him a new sign in. When he logins into his old account he finds that someone else had logged into his account, deleted a character of his, added a couple new ones and the other character he owned had different weapons, armor and level from when he last played. Contacted WoW support again and they were able to reinstate his deleted character and everything back to when he last played and plus let him keep the money that the characters acquired. This all took place in about a day.
Not sure what youtube is struggling with or why they can’t explain why it’s hard for them.
I am LIVING for this driven, assertive detective Meghan. She's a strong, badass woman. UA-cam should be scared.

Hey! I'm a software engineer and I would suggest finding a youtube software Engineer on linked in and ask them directly for support. From insight into how the cloud world works I'd think there is someone with admin access to all accounts and videos and it should be like a three click process to get your videos back.. just a thought. It honestly vividly reminds me so much of my school district from when I was a kid. In middle school, I was bullied to the point I was regularly in the nurse’s office. I was blamed at best, ignored at worst until my mom stepped in and said “what the fuck”. The school’s solution was to tackle the petty bullying and essentially isolate me from my friends as a solution. (My electives were swapped; I had theater with all my friends, and Spanish with a particularly catty girl who slammed me against the lockers a couple of times and maced me with perfume once). My life continued to be in danger, but hey, they did something and wasn’t it great that I was still in gym, regardless of the danger I was in?
In high school, I took an unplanned three month sabbatical post-psychotic-break. In those three months, it was figured out that I had a learning disorder. When we returned for an accommodation meeting, the vice principal showed up fifteen minutes late, skimmed through the folder she was supposed to have read, and decided on accommodations contrary to my doctor’s recommendation.
Moral of the story: they circle back... telling you they’ll circle back soon... it’s a big cycle, a month long cycle. As a small creator this makes me scared as to what would happen if I grew as a channel

Actually, that's not true. There are warehouses with servers and large processing units that can only hold a certain amount of storage. Some things are deleted forever. This is especially true with Facebook because it's so horribly coded that it saves mass amounts of information that eventually must be deleted. Unless fans or another website archived her videos, they could very well be gone permanently.

AMAZING UPDATE: Meghan said that they have set up a meeting with her and are overhauling the entire way they deal with cases like this as a result of the ordeal she has endured. They apologized on video call for everything she has gone through so far and acknowledged that it was due to serious flaws at their end.
It's so sad that Meghan had to go through all this, but thankfully something is finally being done to officially and permanently resolve the situation, which wouldn't be happening without Meghan's diligence and perseverance.

Once my entire account was deleted and I immediately contacted UA-cam and they told me there was no way to save anything, which was weird, because it had literally been 13 minutes. Hundreds of videos just gone forever. However this was about 6 years ago and the entire channel was deleted, not just videos. But I get the same feeling, they just don't care. I was a very small channel, but I was devastated to lose years of my life/ memories and all the hard work I had put in. Yes, I also should have had back ups of everything, but I didn't. I learned UA-cam can't be trusted and I was a fool to put my trust in them. They'd been making huge changes to the platform and my channel was just a casualty. I know our experiences are vastly different, but to know how devastated I was- angry for like a year or more, I can only imagine a fraction of what you must be feeling. Best of luck. It's honorable that you are fighting when they want you to just shut up and give up, like I did.

xxx ibeto exactly.. like i have no accounts that are important that i don’t change the pass for regularly.. and seeing as i use different ones for everything if someone gets into one the rest is safe.. but this is just absolutely horrid the one time i have had something hacked was in a video game.. and seeing as that maddened me because someone had deleted my character (there was no server wipe around that time because my other account was fine and my characters were there on that one) but my main account was suddenly empty.. the character i had put a ton of time in and got the coolest stuff trough trading a ton of stuff.. (basically farming certain item drops with a friend for 2 different monsters then each take one of the two items and trade them with some random people often getting us cosmetics that one wouldn’t normally get without spending actual real life money for the ones one didn’t care much for me and the friend would trade one another and then we’d do it all over again.. it was a fun time and we would rev up a ton of ingame cash and sometimes got lucky because of the player stores sometimes being absolute fire..
