MotorTrend SUV of the Year!! The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV!! In this video we take a look at the 1st Blazer EV we got at the dealership. It is the RS trim and really looks great with the black and adrenaline red interior.

That charge port door is mind boggling. The way it moved when you touched it and it didn’t open. Looks like so easy to rip right off. Who in the world ok’ed that?!
It’ll break… right after the 3/36000 warranty expires
No different really than any gas port door; those can be "ripped off", too.
@@tkusterb Yeah, BUT most don’t have electro-mechanical actuators…. made by GM.
AIn't no way. Someone paid for this award, lol
The government did. Gotta gaslight the public into buying EVs (it's not working.)
All you have to do is look at some of Motor Trend’s past award winners and you realize how meaningless this award is. If anything when they give their award RUN the other direction!
It's the GM way. They will sell 3 of these. They don't wanna sell many because they lose money on them.
Weren’t the ‘71Vega, the ‘80 Citation, the ‘88 Grand Prix, the ‘91 Caprice, the ‘92 STS, the ‘97 Malibu, the ‘11 Volt the Car of the Year? See where I’m going here???
@@DS-wo8wr
Not to mention the ‘60 Corvair, the ‘76 Plymouth Volare, the ‘78 Plymouth Horizon and of course my all time favorite, the ‘83 Renault Encore, probably the biggest piece of garbage ever conceived.
For a product that has less than 20 units sold so far, with power, range and amenities that are subpar when compared to the competition, this award is simply inexcusable. Motor Trend must have been bought by GM for this.
Lol, I thought the same thing.. not that it was "paid" for but how could it win with virtually no real world customer experience out there
@@DaveBsellsChevy- must be no “new” competition?
now u got it ..GM pays all of them off to say such sweet things..lol oh i mean ( compensates / donates to the cause).lol
Number sold is not relevant. They are basing the award in their driving experience. EPA range numbers are meaningless. GM often exceeds EPA range in highway driving, Tesla never comes close. Ride is a lots smoother than Model Y. Interior quality is miles above the iPad glued to the dash. Quieter as well. Cry harder, Tesla stans.
Better range than the 250 mi Cybertruck and better amenities.
I like the car but they 100% made it too expensive
So you want one that’s 100% cheaper? lol. Base models are yet to come
Great Review!!!
But - Too expensive. I will keep my 2023 Bolt EUV. $23,000 ($33k - $10k tax incentives)
The Equinox EV will be the Bolt owners next vehicle IMO price is right around there.
For 60,200, I would rather get the model y performance. 250kw and the unbeatable charging infrastructure
the 2025 or 2026 with have the NACS port...but for that price for now that's a no go.
Any EV can use superchargers with an adapter
the charge door access is a mystery as to why they went with that feature/design. When the Equinox EV is a simple pop open door like a regular vehicle. As for the removal of Apple Carplay/Android Auto, that could be interesting but I think a better demo of the new infotainment system would help. It could have potential buyers calm down or realize it's not that bad and maybe better?
The new Blazer EV is gorgeous inside and out. But why why why does Chevy and GM have to shoot themselves in the foot with dumb decisions on every single vehicle?? The motorized charging door, the lack of a frunk, and the high price of the RS trim (the $60k Blazer EV RS is the same price at the Mustang Mach E GT that has 200 more horsepower).
I think the RS price will go down in the later model years once you have all the Trims available. As for the removal of the 1LT from the Blazer EV lineup. that's to stop the top trim Equinox EV to be priced on top of it.
People rarely use frunks. If it is highly demanded, GM will probably add one in the future. Or someone could make an aftermarket frunk. There is room when you pop off the plastic cover.
What GM is doing with their EV strategy is puzzling to me. I was really excited for this Blazer & from a styling standpoint I think they knocked it out the park. I also think the room inside is great for a 5 seater. However not having CarPlay or Android Auto makes it a no sale for me. There are other automakers who have the Google based infotainment but still have CarPlay & Android Auto. I realize that you are supposed to get a couple of years free but to me this is just a pure money grab effectively forcing you to pay for a subscription service. I was on the fence between the Blazer & the Mach-E but once GM said that they wouldn’t be supporting CarPlay I bought a Mach-E. Too bad because I was seriously leaning more toward the Blazer because of its size.
I would willing to bet they will get car play back.
I have carplay in my Volt but I found I rarely use it, I use the Infotainment GM gives me for everything I do. Also GM is giving you 8 years of connectivity, Maps, and Google Assistant.
Android Automotive is Android Auto just a lot more integrated with the vehicle.
@@Nebula1701 I use CarPlay all the time & I like Apple Maps better than Google maps. Also, as I said, I realize that they are giving you a few years free but at some point you have to pay. I’ll also point out that GM & other automakers have made those kinds of promises only to backtrack.
I didn’t know this when I bought the Mac-E but battery percentage, the GOM & charging stops are fully integrated in Apple Maps now & there’s no subscription even if it’s sometime in the future.
Not surprising that GM is starting to adopt Tesla-like features. Smart move that they should have started doing years ago. The question of course is can GM produce this car in volume, profitably?
@@vincestilla prob not lol. Your rite everyone copied Teslas ideals.
Beautiful car with good specs. Hope GM sells a ton of these!
Now all GM needs to do is figure out how to make it $35,000.
That sound is the pedestrian warning sound. It is a law to have it on EVs and Hybrids going less than 20 mph. My ID4 and Bolt EUV has that sound.
Charge port cover is a problem when we get rain to ice to snow. Ice gets builds and is stronger than glue. Ha ha Probably would want to drape some kind of cover over it.
Can't wait until the Mid level Blazer EV is made, but no one knows when GM will actually get around to making it. $60k for this trim eliminates a lot of people. Also, at this price point, the Lyric for a few Thousand more might be a smarter choice.
Get a better job dude.
Seriously. Just work harder.
@johnnymichael1804 I am a software engineer. I can afford this, ptobaly 2, but that doesn't mean it's a smart purchase .
@@gregpochet4812 yeah you can get a BMW i4 for the cost of this that is made better. Its not a SUV but its a damn good car.
Very nice vehicle however $60,000 is a lot of money very few people will be able to afford specially when interest rates are high
Looking forward to seeing the Equinox EV and the Silverado EV
Same
Missed your videos the last couple weeks. Glad you’re back!
The fact that the car DOESN'T have Apple Carplay/Android Auto, no trunk & no spare tire, would be a deal breaker. It's a beautiful vehicle, inside & out, though.
For almost $10k less I'd buy a Tesla before the Blazer
The interior and exterior of the Tesla shows it should be $15,000 less then the Blazer!
I think the blazer looks much better than Tesla IMO but to each it’s own.
GM said they are reconsidering producing EVs. It will never dominate because too many people live in condos and apartments.
@@SkippyPB.I have always said why can’t we have both evs and combustion vehicles they make engines so clean plus I own a hybrid that I love. I think all 3 should always be made and it’s the people who can pick.
I have a Model 3 Tesla but if I was in the market for a new EV this wouldn't be it. Although it isn't horrible, the charge port is broken within 6 months especially with the charge cord hanging over it. The price is a bit high considering the Model Y is cheaper and has the Tesla network. Once GM changes to NACS charge port it will be more competitive but that charge port door kills me lol.
Anyone can use super chargers with an adapter
no Apple Carplay is always a deal breaker for me, no matter how fantastic the infotainment system is.
Best car available today, amazing value!
As a 2023 Bolt EUV owner, have been looking forward to bigger and better EV designs from General Motors. Unfortunately the reviews I’ve watched on the new blazer (including your last comparison) have left me disappointed in one design choice GM made for this vehicle, especially at the price point. Now I am waiting for the equinox to see if it’s a better designed EV. (I like the physical controls in the Blazer over the Y, but I’m really disappointed in the lack of front trunk and towing capacity of the blazer). And yes, that charge door is a stupid design for us northerner’s.
The Lyriq has a Frunk in China because they don't have the 19.2 kW option there so there is some room. Here in the states the 19.2 kW charger is an option and takes up room where the frunk would be... with models the 19.2 kW charger isn't installed GM removed the frunk to save on cost. I really don't see it as a miss though. Not much would be stored there. As much as it would be a bonus.
I love what GM is doing in the EV segment. They give us choices which is the best way. If you are not into EV’s well a gas version is available.
Every company other than like polestar and tesla offer gas cars as well as EVs
I was gonna say. "They give us choices which is the best way." Except when they are priced like luxury cars it doesn't really give me many options. Atleast ruling out ICEs.
Great review Dave.
my dealership up here in Canada finally got one. But it's not ready for customer test drives yet. But got to see it in person and it's not as big as I thought it might be. The lower roof line makes it look smaller and the interior in person was pretty nice too. It didn't feel huge/massive on the interior. Still looking forward to the Equinox EV when it arrives. I like how GM kept the buttons for the hvac and not just for the touch screen.
Thats a bummer no Android Auto or Apple car play. I still prefer the Bolt EUV perfect for my need and my pocket 😊
While it's a sharp looking vehicle, and I have always bought GM for the last 30 years, no Car Play, no deal for me.
Very sporty interior, love the gauges and the color.
Woo Hoo.
The Blazer is too big for my wife and I plus it’s a lot higher price than I want to pay for a car. Hopefully the Equinox will have similar styling. Love the two tone interior, it’s about time. Also the AC vents are Awsome. This car looks so much better than a Tesla.
Definitely like the appearance. I am on the list to order one and wanted the sportiest version which isn’t available until next Spring. My BMW lease was up in September and I couldn’t wait until Spring. I ordered the BMW IX and will have it in a week after waiting about 10 weeks. Probably not a fair comparison when Blazer is $60K and the IX is $100K. For many reasons I think I will enjoy the IX more.
🎉
No way... Love my #Bolt
Ok, the Tech features are super amazing. Charge rate is MUCH faster, especially if this was your only car. But I'll keep the #Bolt as my local driving car.
Will the "SUV Of The Year" translate into sales for you...?? I m adopting the wait&see approach....Good Luck.
Nice looking car, great video. Love all your videos, but this one worked, I want to get an EV Blazer!
Ours is now available!! The deal that was on it fell through
I’m her to remind you that in 1979 the Chevy LUV was truck of the year. Now I do like them, owned many and currently have one but truck of the year was a bit odd.
Really nice
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Good review ... When do you expect to see the new Silverado EV ❓That's going to be your big seller
3:51 - came for Motor Trend's SUV of the Year, stayed for the LIMP BIZKIT.
Good music choices, reminds me of my college days lol.
Recently got a call from my dealership asking if i would consider trading in my 2018 volt for this blazer ev. It is tempting but those touch controls would drive me crazy until i could learn them.
You almost had me believe the car made ice cream truck sounds when it’s moving. 😂
Love the look of this car and I am fan of the EV version. Price could be better.
Respect for not driving someones sold car .
Great video! I just drove the Blazer today. I’m thinking about this to replace our Honda CRV Hybrid. It’s a beautiful vehicle and ev is just miles ahead of ice. We love our Bolt EUV and it’s basically perfect for us but I was thinking just a tad bigger for longer highway trips. The range on this one did not seem too good. The Bolt can do 280 and maybe 300 if pushed. You pointed out the Google streaming… that’s a hurdle if you’re already getting Apple Music. Anyway, I’ve got a few more months on the Honda so I want to drive the Equinox too but today’s test drive and your video gives us something to think about. Thanks!
Love your videos keep them coming. 👍. Glad the strike is over Iam stock holder of GM. I think they have a great future.
Nice video! Cool vehicle, as for the annoying sound, I work for Cadillac and our Lyriq makes that same noise, they say it's the "sound of the sun".
Does the Blazer have the camera view in the rear view mirror like the Bolt? Underrated feature
That charge flap is like a knockoff of the Audi Etron charge flap. Seems to go really slow aswell and doesn’t look right on the car. Other than that the car looks amazing and that noise all evs do it now here in Europe it’s for pedestrians to hear you nearby
Door is extra large because this model is also sold in China and it has two charge ports in there than the single one in the States. They kept cost down by just designing one door.
I remembered with Motor Trend named the Chevy Citation as the car of the year (1980) !!! It was the biggest Lemon a few years later.
No way I'm paying a monthly subscription for Google. Deal breaker!
Would be nice to hear or do a video about the training GM mechanics are getting for EV. How many hours, where are they going and do they need to be certified in EV or does every tech get a shot at working on this new tech.
Per the Ministry of Information, EV repairs are a thing of the past.
@@DS-wo8wr Sure........
It’s great news for ev
Wish I shared the same enthusiasm for EVs but don't. Some cool features though.
Definitely a nice car... but the Blazer EV RS at MSRP is IMHO overpriced since it costs more than a Tesla Model Y Performance (0-60 in 3.5s) with the Enhanced Autopilot option.
Note I don't own a Tesla nor have any Tesla stock so have no vested interest in Tesla.
Very true point because I don’t believe that RS has super drive in it and the Tesla has a longer range too and much much much better charging network, out of anything that CCS network is garbage
can You make a video on how built in google maps look and how the route planning work please
Also, do you know, if you open the driver's door when the charging panel is open, is there any conflict with the door hitting the charging panel (and hopefully not damaging anything)?
Love your videos, but, Yeah. Apple CarPlay is a deal-breaker for me. GM, in a bid to save money, wants to remove functionality that buyers are used to and expect most consumers to just suck it up and pay for additional services after paying the obscene prices for new vehicles today. Hard pass. I’ll be buying used with ACP or another brand.
The charge door is a ridiculous design. Open and closes too slowly, and adds more complication to something simple. Instead of resolving an issue, GM created one.
Thanks Dave, looks exciting! So on my Bolt, when I use the regen on demand, is it not using the actual brakes? Also, thanks for all the honesty about things you like and don’t like.
Dave can you should the duramax 1500 behind you!
Having had a chance to test drive the RS rwd and lyriq im really puzzled what GM is doing. Lyriq has better range and performance for their rwd vs the Blazer for nearly same money. The charging has been atrocious as numerous YT reviews show low speeds on GM vehicles while other brands charge much faster at same station.
My biggest question is what will the value be of the 24 model year since it has CCS charging port and the 25 will have NACS.
I like the design and drive of the Blazer EV its just priced wrong compared to competitors.
I am really baffled as to why GM decided to price this at only $3K less than the Lyriq sibling. This car reminds me of the VW Phaeton where the Phaeton was priced as much as the Audi A8 W12 and landed up being a massive sales flop for VW as a result. I see the same happening here. Why would I go for this when I can have the Cadillac version for nearly the same price?
Thank you for the very informative video. I will buy more Tesla stock.
Another bullcrap award from motortrend. The Blazer EV is cool but it isn’t going to sell well.
Haha I know right I saw that coming from motortrend lol
Ha - listening to YOUR reasons for why you chose the Bolt sounds just like me as to why I chose the Bolt. I have driven sports cars for years ('87 300ZX, '93 RX7 Twin Turbo, '06 SLK350) and the Bolt shocked my daughter since the Bolt looks nothing like a sports car. I still have my SLK350 and may never part with it, but the Bolt has been an absolute winner for me. If I ever trade the Bolt, the Blazer EV RS is probably what I will go for. Or maybe the SS model so I can race my son's 2016 Tesla Model X. JK about doing that, but I could rag him a little.
Odd question but does anyone know why GM in their new vehicles are changing the chime sound when starting up the car or getting an alert? I loved the classic beeping sound and how it was around for so long
I agree with gas door comments : I don't need another motor in any car much less a EV.
From other vehicles I've owned, the odd sound heard outside the vehicle is a government requirement now for electric vehicle operations at low speeds as an outside safety sound so blind people can hear a car moving. My Ford hybrid does this when moving with the electric motor at slow speeds, but not when it gets above parking lot speeds or when the gas engine turns on. I've heard from others that their battery electric vehicles make a sound, as well.
These blazer aren’t selling here in San Diego! I’ve yet to see anyone driving it. Im a postman I’m on the streets everyday and never seen one! In fact the chevy dealership on my route got too much inventory that ask a local dealership on my route to store some of the silverados and blazer ev on the lots! I count over 30 silverados and 15 blazers! I believe there are offering $7500 discount! Prices are $55k and up
The reverse sound is a law for EV's for blind people. Yeah. you can't turn it off, unfortunately.
I think this applies to forward motion as well for blind people to hear a vehicle approaching especially at crosswalks.
We’ll let the sales numbers make that call…My vote went for the Tesla MYP!
When touting this, remember that the Chevy Vega was the 1971 car of the year. LOL
I am not a fan of EVs but for some reason the SS version has spoken to me. After I learned it was going to knock on the door of 70k I couldn’t justify that. Now that I learn it won’t have apple CarPlay it’s definitely a no for me. Too bad. I really like the look of it.
Awesome car.
Hey Dave - how about a “wired” carplay, like the Bolt has? Does this Blazer have a USB plug that does data? Or just power?
It has USB ports but there is no "projection" app on screen that has been needed to operate apply car play or android auto... not sure if there would be some sort of aftermarket work around
How long before that charge port door stops working? Lack of Apple car play is truly puzzling. Otherwise, if they price it at $40,000 it will sell. Or it is just a curiosity.
When are you going to talk about all the EV battery fires?
I did in the past.. even compared EV to gas vehicle fire stats and how much more likely you are to have a fire in a gas vehicle.
No way would I buy a first-gen Chevy EV SUV. I would only lease one if the incentives were extraordinarily good. Even then I would still pick a Model Y if I wanted an EV SUV, which I don’t.
Canceled my reservation a few weeks ago. $60k for a freaking GM car with mediocre specs and questionable quality, no thanks!
It’s bad enough that the Blazer EV is overpriced the dealer markups are ridiculous. If GM and dealers don’t change their strategies they won’t be in business for long.
Good!
I've watched a few Blazer EV walk through videos, and yours is the only one that is good. Thanks for the information. One question, how can you get behind the wheel and *not* take it for a spin? 😂 I mean, I realize it was sold but that's next level restraint.
Thank you 🙏
We have a rule that when something is sold we dont put it out on the road. Good news for me (bad for the salesperson that sold it) the Blazer EV deal fell through so I should be able to make a teat drive video on Wednesday
@DaveBsellsChevy Condolences to your colleague, but, yes, I'd really love to see you put it through some paces. You're a car guy. You have the same curiosities about the vehicle I do. Looking forward to that video! If you sell it beforehand, no drama.
Honda Prologue and Acura ZDx will have Apple car play and android auto, same platform as this blazer
I don't know Dave, I hate everything about EVs, I hear Mary Barra is considering going hydrogen fuel cell instead of plugin EV. I just ordered a Buick Envista or as i call it a Fancy Trax. If GM goes hydrogen, I will consider that in the future.
I really don't know where that idea about Hydeogen is coming from... It's no where official and GM wouldn't make that drastic of a change. Yes GM has a Hydrogen program but it has been developing it with Honda for the past several Decades. Hydrogen will show up for big trucks, generators, and their Military vehicles first.
With the delay of the Silverado EV to the 2025 model year, would you consider a Blazer EV instead? Or is the pickup your want for a future EV? Thanks!
EVs are a scam. No one is buying this shit.
No carplay I think there going to have lots of complaints
Sure its the 'SUV of the Year', but still doesn't have Car Play which will put-off a majority of people. To me 'SUV of the Year' would have all available 'standard' features including Car play and that charge door is going to get broken and stuck so easily with snow and ice...
It’s because certain car manufacturers subsidize motor trend, of course it was going to win “suv of the year.” Some of the picks over the years are true head scratchers
Chevy Citation, Pontiac Phoenix@@adamp2384
Chevy Vega too
How often do you use carplay? I find I rarely do... Only on the most rare occasions where I need access to an App I otherwise don't use. That's not going to be an issue with Google Play Store access in the Blazer.
Eh. Will be sticking with the Bolt EUV until the next generation of vehicles. So many unnecessary things added to this vehicle that cause the price to shoot up that you don't get much value out of, nor function. In fact, some of the "features" take away function like the overly complicated charge port door. This vehicle is a huge "miss" for me. This is Buick pricing for a vehicle that should be quite a bit cheaper than this, and could have been, if so much wasn't wasted on gimmicky extras.
No Carplay or Android auto kills it sadly.
Its a big toy electric car. I love my 2020 RS loaded with almost everything tech in that car. Plus 360 miles on my full tank and V6. Maybe put the ICE in that EV, not sure about the orange interior.
That panel to access the port is terrible. GM's version of getting ICE'd out.
No android auto or CarPlay is trash. How do you feel about about this Dave ? You have to pay for onstar WiFi after a year to use the tech
Not a fan of GM's move on this. I'd rather have android auto in the car.
@@DaveBsellsChevy it’s gonna hurt sales. I’m loving the blazer but yea that’s not gonna be fun to deal with later on.
How can this Chevy Blazer EV SUV of the year? GM CEO already announced the shutdown of EV production on all cars and SUVs.
60K is an absurd price compared to the competition and that’s before shady dealer markups.
Do you
Have 2024 in all models yet?
Or still waiting to see some?
We are still waiting to see Tacoma and 4 Runners for sure
Yea, we are up to stock number 240175... so about 175 have showed up so far
@@DaveBsellsChevy thanks you for your quick response. I check my stock numbers we are on #45 for what we have on the ground.
Now for a harder question
Have you ever done a video on buyers remorse?
$60,000? No...that is what I paid for my very capable '23 Sierra V8. Plus, GM isn't putting CarPlay into these EV's...very puzzling and frustrating since their Google System is full of bugs and needs a subscription to use maps and other connected services. Save yourself $20,000 and go with the ICE Blazer that gets more range. My former '22 Blazer 2.0L Turbo (that I traded in for my Sierra) would routinely get over 400 miles of range and on the highway, I could get over 550 miles per tank. If you are only charging to 80% on this thing, that is only giving you a theoretical range of 223 miles...FOR $60,000.
Wasn't it the Ford Escape?
Check out other videos for the fast charging issues with the Lyric.
Cool, another EV. How about GM make some decent ICE vehicles, things that the middle class can afford. We don't want anymore EVs. These car reviewers can gaslight the public all they want about EVs, but they aren't selling.
I like both kinds of cars I just think Tesla has cornered the market right now in the electric vehicles, I own a gas car and a Tesla and the Tesla is a game changer in the Electric space all the legacy car makers are struggling to catch up
Is there any news about Silverado EV ? Lower priced trim? We need a truck here. Will only buy electric. Thanks
@@scottrasmussen8258 What I read was the conversion of the Orion plant to manufacture Silverado EVs was delayed till 2025, not that the initial production of the Silverado EV was delayed till 2025. Since they're still planning to manufacture them where the Hummer EVs are currently manufactured.
EVs are a scam.
I am sure it has something to do with the strike, and no the Silverado EV is going to be god awful expensive, even the work truck version is right near 70k
