The prices I've been seeing on Blazers make it a no-brainer right now, to me. That's why I got one. You were right though, the "pop-out" door handles on the equinox were a major turnoff for me, however, I did like the manual charging port cover.
@@CarsMadeSimple I'm a little worried about the charge port motor in the winter. Hopefully it does better than the power running boards on my Silverado.
GMs strategy with these vehicles is so perplexing. Two hatchbacks on the same exact Ultium 85 kw architecture, with mostly similar sizes. I wonder who they think is a Blazer buyer vs an Equinox buyer? To me, the Blazer is sitting in an incredibly awkward area between the Equinox and the Lyriq.
Agree 100%. If you're on a budget, the Equinox is the no-brainer. If you can afford a few hundred dollars per month more, the Lyriq is the obvious choice. The Blazer is pretty much irrelevant.
I do agree that overall the Equinox EV is a better value for the average buyer, and in some ways I like the styling of the Equinox better, but I just ordered a Blazer EV RS RWD and decided on that over the Equinox because of the wider back seat, better range vs the AWD Equinox, much higher towing capacity, higher HP, slightly faster DCFC, Bose sound, and a few smaller things like power folding mirrors and normal door handles. I would have preferred a manual charge door, but the other features of the RWD Blazer were more important to me. I also considered the Mach-e, EV6, Ioniq 5, Prologue, Lyriq, Id.4, and Ariya, but ruled them all out either because of the size of the back seat (I have three older kids and yet do not want a 3-row), price, lack of towing capacity, styling, or lack of key features I wanted like ventilated front seats or heated rear seats.
With a possible career change and some health issues, I've been looking at EVs lately, and things a little larger than my very low-to-the-ground Toyota Avalon. I have a hip problem that makes entry and exit in the Toyota just awful. From a height and ease of entry and exit standpoint, is there a clear winner here? I need to go to the dealer and check these out, but I have concerns about the visibility. With that said, the one pay lease pricing on the Blazer EV is absolutely insane (24 month, 12,000 miles/year lease is $4500, out the door)
I would say both are going to be good options for ingress and egress due to their height and size. The Blazer might be slightly better. I believe lease pricing varies regionally across the country but that does seem very cheap if you can find one that fits that payment.
@@CarsMadeSimple Completely agree. I saw another channel that recently completed a one pay lease on a Blazer for around $6600. At my local dealer, it was $15,000, but a dealer closer to Kansas City (my nearest metro hit that $4500 mark). Thank you for your thoughts on entry and exit. My only other qualm is that I'm an iPhone user, and I need to contend with the infotainment system.

While there is nothing absolutely fantastic about GM's EV platforms approach, they are perfectly good, and we want to buy EV cars from American manufacturers. The failure of GM is NOT the EV platforms. It is the decision-by-committee approach to building EV cars that are equaled by other manufacturers and being too timid to recognize that the EV market is WIDE FREAKIN OPEN for different types of EVs where they could own a bunch of entire markets for those model types!!!
