Just ordered the 7.5 pro w/ lithium rechargeable aerator , TH Marine minnow maker, 3"stone and a small floating net. Your points about the Engel net were spot on. Thanks for the Great review!!!
Thanks Ed! You are so nice! Yes, the net if you let it get away from you in terms of keeping it cleaned off can actually cause bacteria to build up even in fresh water and prematurely kill your bait. There are a lot of guys that have figured out ways to keep the nets clean and this be a non-issue, but I don't care for doing more maintenance on these than I need to which is why I don't use the net.
Good review you brought up some interesting points. Although I'm not sure why should a person spend 80 plus dollars for this and then have to buy new pumps, air stones add in a chemicals to keep your fish alive and get rid of netting. I think I will buy a good brand of cooler and make one with the parts you are recommending we replace.
New guy here watched the video this afternoon and just got the small one with everything to go with it lol I’m in central Florida and do a lot of yack fishing so I was thinking that would work great for me love the video and thanks of all the info I hit the sub and the bell have a great night
thanks for the vid super helpful. so for the 13 qt... technically that is slightly below the specs of the plug in aerator (5-10 gallons)... have you noticed any problems with leaving that overnight ? too much oxygen?
What would be cool for us who live in hotter climates is something to keep the water cooler I use frozen 20 oz bottles now but that takes up room and don't last long. A product that would cool that runs on a camp propane bottle. I know they have refrigerators that run off of propane. It would be cool to have a much smaller scale device that would cool your bait bucket.
I feel like the 13 qt is a better option i was thinking of getting the 7.5qt one, but if one day i want to get bigger bait i already have the big 13qt one 👍🏼
I use a aquarium skywin rechargeable aerator i bought for around 16 bucks on Amazon and i use a plano plastic box i mounted on top of my 19 qt engel to keep it dry haven't tried it out yet unfortunately but hope it works.
Nice review. My biggest gripes with the Engel cooler when you use it for ice fishing. 1. The top freezes shut and is almost impossible to open without damaging it. 2. When you open the top, it tips over when it's empty. Annoying when you're trying to fill it. 3. The aerator that comes with is terrible. Mine lasted one week and broke. 4. The net will freeze and you'll end up throwing it away. 5. Expensive for what it is. That being said I still use the smaller version for ice fishing. In my opinion, if you want a larger version I'd buy the new frabil bait box.
Zack, appreciate the comment and your experiences. Yes, there is something that should be done about the lid freezing shut, there has to be something that can prevent that as I know several people have that issue, and several others that have found home remedies that work for them (Chapstick / Vaseline), but not everyone. I'm debating getting a big one for my garage and might check out the Frabil bait box. Thanks!
@@AlexTimm you are welcome! I definitely like the stainless ones better. If you have an academy sports near by check out the Magellan bait cooler. I actually like it better but both are excellent
PJ Jackson, good question, if it were me and using sunfish I would probably go with the 13 for the little bit of extra space. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Not sure which one you are talking about, but here is the Clam aerator and the Aerator stone if those were what you are looking for: • Clam Lithium Aerator: amzn.to/3AJpxUt • Large Aerator Stone: amzn.to/39DbaVN
The most I've ever had in it was 3 dozen shiners 2 scoops of fat heads and 2 scoops of crappie minnows. It was packed but keeping the water cool, aerated and changing it daily they did just fine
When my net gets cruddy I soak it in bleach then clean it with dawn and it’s brand new, the minnows aren’t affected after rinsing out the bleach in my experience
I had some shrimp in a bucket with an aerator and they lasted 9 hours they where still alive after i finished fishing and I ended up just throwing them out so idk if your claim is correct
Bleach the nets then soak them in a product like Seachem Prime (it’s made for aquariums). The Prime will neutralize the chlorine and everything will be fish-safe again.

Great review! When i saw the net - my first Q was how long does it last before it gets stinky and nasty. You the only one who actually answered it.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the kind words! 👍

I got the 7.5 qt for ice fishing along with all your suggestions you made. Absolutely loved it. Thanks for the good information
Absolutely! Great to hear!!
This is the best video I have seen on the Engles.Great tips and I'm putting them to use. I didn't realize the net could kill the fish.

You definitely could! I have found these to be super durable and sized right, but you for sure could do a DIY one and save some $$$
great tips! I like the g juice idea and colander idea.
Awesome!!

Right on! Thank you! Appreciate it and think that heater is going to be an awesome addition to the yack setup!
Thank you for this video it is great information to know. Well done.
Glad it was helpful!
Killer video! Love the colander tip. Work smarter, not harder!
What do you think would happen to the net if you would wash it periodically depending on how much you use it what do you think great video thanks
I'm sure you could keep it fairly clean, some people say they do a bleach water treatment to it and it helps a ton
Screws pulled out of the handle the first time I lifted it when full of water. Aerator is very ,very loud. I recommend the Bubs Daddy aerator.

Can the clam lithium run while charging?
Yes it can as long as it is not completely dead. If it is, give it a 5-10 min charge and should be good
@@AlexTimm And I thought I was done for a year or two buying fishing related stuff🤣🤣🤣🤣

I never have that problem because i live in texas
Good review. The biggest downside of Engels are the hinges. You are better off buying their stainless steel hinges and replacing them
Thanks for the tip, I have 3 of them and never had an issue with the hinges, if I do now I know what to do! 👍
@@AlexTimm you are welcome! I definitely like the stainless ones better. If you have an academy sports near by check out the Magellan bait cooler. I actually like it better but both are excellent
Bought hinges at Lowe's for $4
@@richardmatthys7133 Picked up off the shelf hinges and fit it to the original mounting holes?
Great video... this helps me alot! Tightlines.. new supporter too!
Thank you!!
What’s the puck you have in the bottom of the livewell bucket?
It is the air diffuser for the aerator. This guy right here: at.fish/DonutAirDiffuser
Works awesome! I have it in all my buckets
Think I can keep some sunfish in the 7.5 for a day of catfishing or should I get the 13 ?
PJ Jackson, good question, if it were me and using sunfish I would probably go with the 13 for the little bit of extra space. Thanks for watching and commenting!
How did you fasten your air raider stone to the bottom of your bait bucket
The one I have in the video has a suction cup on the bottom. I linked it in the description and they are pretty cheap too
Do you attach the aerator stone to bottom of cooler? If so, how do you attach it?
They have a weight, you just set it on the bottom
Shaun, I do, the one that I show in the video (blue one) has a suction cup on the bottom that sticks to the bottom of the cooler 👍
Fishing & Hunting, Yes, most do!
@@AlexTimm perfect. Thanks for letting me know.
If they don't have either you can get 2 sided gorilla tape that also works great and doesn't kill fish with the chemicals they use.
fabulous review
What is the flat aerator that you are using?

How many minnows small can I keep in the 13q

Great tip! Thanks!
Baking soda works too
Great video!
I glued magnets to the net and the inside of the lid so no wet hands.
That is awesome! Never heard of that before!
And i had a dirty net and all i did was rinse it off with the water hose and hang dry it and mine was clean after that.
Nice, I think I let mine get away from me a bit
The nets are for bait shrimp not bait fish.. shrimp need to grip onto something they die faster if they just slosh around in water.
Ahh, now that'd good to know! 👍👍👍
I had some shrimp in a bucket with an aerator and they lasted 9 hours they where still alive after i finished fishing and I ended up just throwing them out so idk if your claim is correct

Nice vid. Way too much G juice. Should be about a teaspoon for that much water.
Sometimes I get a bit too much pouring out 🤣
The clam rechargeable aerator is absolutely terrible. I do not recommend them.
