15 yrs ago my shitty punk band was covering Minor Threat when we were in high school (mid to late 90’s) Now all in our 30’s, accountants and lawyers, we get together every once in a while and will cover the entire album, playing it louder and harder then we did when we were teenagers. The only difference is now I will have a sore neck for days after because of all the head banging. What is about this band that can do this to us?
Minor Threat / 7 Seconds / Uniform Choice / Bad Brains / Gorilla Biscuits & all of the NYC bands.....early 80's 2nd wave of punk. Call it hardcore. This is when speed collided with punk. Thrash metal soon to follow. Those were the days......
Downtown Austin TX Ritz Theatre 1982!!! I'm 50 n0w but this brings it all back. THANKS FOR THIS UPLOAD! I see me in every kid in this vid. Feelin young again. The spirit of HC punk will never be like this ever again. Nobody out to kick your ass for no reason. Pure FUN FUN FUN! What generation of extreme rockers is gonna top this first wave of USA HC...
The closest thing to this nowadays is probably Gilman St. We played there earlier this year and it was like THAT. It blew me away and reminded me of why I started going to punk or hardcore shows in the first place.
Fucking epic! I saw Fugazi live a few years after this but was just a little too young to catch Minor Threat live. Thanks for sharing, I could watch this all day.
I remember being 15 and hearing Minor Threat and Misfits. I still listen to it and I'm 37. Metallica died out ( mom was right about that ) but wrong about everything else...I remember getting hand written letters from Look Out Records......now look at those bands that slept on our couches....
Mandatory for every old man skater's ipod. You young'ns might find this inspirational too. There's just nothing like having Ian Mackaye scream how he's "Seeing Red" right into your ear as your dropping into a bowl. It's about as close to nirvana as you'll get.
+Roman Pellegrino: He was probably a long haired hippy just the day before doing shit like streaking at Dodger games. Then somebody turned him on to Minor Threat, he cuts his hair off so he won't get his ass kicked at punk shows ... but the hippy in him lives on ... as a streaker at Minor Threat shows. Uhhhh ... you think maybe? You know, growing up in Los Angeles I went to shit loads of punk shows (including Minor Threat opening for The Dead Kennedy's at The Alpine Village in 1982) and I can say without a doubt, I never ever saw anybody running around naked like the guy in this video. But if I had seen something like that I probably would have laughed. The thing is, I saw guys get there ass kicked for doing absolutely nothing. And this guy is running around naked??? Talk about an invitation for the skinheads to thump someone ... damn. Then again, he IS at a Minor Threat show. A very different atmosphere from most other punk shows at the time. In as much as I think the guy could easily have gotten away with running around naked without getting he ass beat ... at least severely :-) Anyway, I swear I can almost feel the air being thick with energy of the crowd. And when you end up at a show like that a stage dive is just about mandatory :D Hell yeah! I'm glad I was 18 at the time. Because if this shit went off today, I'd stage dive and if I were lucky enough not to break anything, I would be hurting like hell ... like all over.
The only naked guys I saw at a Punk gig was at the first PIL show at the Olympic. I'm not sure if they were supposed to be one of the acts but they were bombarded with shit. They then ran for their lives.
Franz Kafka I was born in '75. So I was too young to see Minor Threat, but thanks to older brothers I was listening to Punk in 1985. Looking back, I'm glad I was there to experience such a vibrant and ridiculous time as the 1980's. If you're checking out Minor Threat, you would have liked being around then. But, and this is my point, the world is yours. It's your time to make your own statement. Ian and the band were living in the moment, doing something that had never been done and doing it their own way. Draw inspiration and chart your own course. Ask "why not?" When others ask " why?". Good times ahead.
Amazing someone had the opportunity and chance to film this historical time!!!!
They were one of my biggest high school inspirations.
I was a 13 y/o suburbia skater mall punk in '83. Minor Threat was one of the 1st "punk" LPs I bought. i still get chills. fuck.
2 guitarist in the line-up, Brian Baker only played guitar for a short while. Great footage! thanks

What is about this band that can do this to us?
When the kids, music, and scene actually meant something. This is the real stuff!
These guys were a minor threat to the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the US.
Lol 😂
Their cultural impact much larger than chart positions.

SoulForce Revolution you forgot to mention regan youth
Never list Minor Threat as a NYC band son, that;'s DC to you and I'm Boston but one of the best hardcore bands to roam the planet back in our day :)
LA Hardcore started in the 70’s.
He didn’t say Minor Threat was a NY band. 7 Seconds and Uniform Choice weren’t NY either.
Youth of Today?? Crucial Youth?
Love Minor Threat. This was everything i was about when i was a teenager. Only wish i had got to have been part of it in UK
+Matt Uren London and LA had the biggest Hardcore scenes by far.
From Calm To CHAOS in 1 Second...I Seen Them In DC Back in 81..GREAT Band!!!
Must have been an insane show to be at. Great set.

These guys are almost 60 now. That's scary
Are there any earlier videos with Brian Baker playing bass? I just need to see that.

Everything about this is straight edge but the fucking camera quality.
Is the entire show? They didn't play "Minor Threat".
Iggy and the Stooges found it. RAW POWER is what you're referring to.

You're a fucking legend! Anymore classic stories of the shows?
