Bad Brains Florida NCTV
03/20/1987
Spring Break
This upgrade came from a fellow AZ taper and good friend of Yahoo! Serious "Bubzdaddy" who worked for a TV station back in the late 80's.
Bubba tells me that this is as good as this gets without the discovery of the Broadcast Master beta. His lineage is recorded from master to SVHS.
I cant tell if this is the god honest truth but the picture quality and color/definition of this SVHS tape speaks Volumes. Hands down the best
recording in known existence. There are some tape drops from age that were unavoidable without a full frame TBC of which neither Bubba or I had
access to. This is an upgrade to the Yahoo! Serious Collection Volumes that were previously seeded in 2006.
Just look at the definition and clarity of the crowd shots and you will see that all faces are fully recognizable. This and I should mention
that you can now count the hairs on HR's eyebrows in the closeups.
Setlist:
1. Intro / 0:00 - 1:16
2. I / 1:16 - 3:30
3. House of Suffering / 3:30 - 5:34
4. Daytripper/ She's a Rainbow / 5:41 - 10:16
5. She is Calling you / 10:25 - 13:44
6. The Youth are getting Restless / 13:49 - 18:46
7. I against I / 18:53 - 21:48
8. At the Movies / 21:51 - end
total runtime 24:49:21
Nothing like some Rasta dudes wearing polos and cardigans, playing the most badass hardcore punk music ever!
This is such a great recording of Bad Brains at their peak musicianship. Thank you so much for uploading this.
I was at this show. I recruited at least 100 people from off the boardwalk and beach in the hours leading up to the free Daytona spring break MTV filmed event. Because all these beach goers were clueless as to what was about to happen. I can be seen many times. My friends too. We had come down from Atlantic Beach, about an hour north. At 20:25, there I am in the original Bad Brains t-shirt from their first cassette tape, with the lightening bolt. I hilariously bump into these total 80’s chicks spilling their drinks. Their hair is all teased out ! Man, the 80’s was awesome ! It was a great show on a weekday, Friday maybe, in the middle of the afternoon. I had seen the Bad Brains previously in California in 1984 and many times after including the band HR. It was always great ! - Joey Coma
Damn bruh, that's epic!
You were right up front.
Wow ! You seem to Have a lot Of Real Fun ! LuckyGuy !
Good video. A friend of mine was there. He went to some pilots school in Daytona somewhere., and went to check them out.
OG . Awesome story to go with this killer video!
Daryl is a boss. His whole vibe here is next level. That green bass deserves its own museum.
One million percent YES!!!!
Hell yeahhhh
his ability to switch between pick and fingers is amazing. perhaps the tightest bassist ever!
@@pristineaqua Seriously wicked Bass Player mate.. Brilliant.
Earl Hudson and Dryll Jennifer best drum and bass combo. They do reggae and hardcore to such a high standard.
Still, to this day, hands down the best , most talented hardcore /metal/punk/dub band to ever walk the face of the earth , all 4 of them are un-fuck-with-able
mroc7113 BEST punk band EVER. So diverse. Long Live BAD BRAINS.
Totally agree! You forget to say the best live band ever
@@ruf1980 Black Flag as a 5 piece with Chuck Biscuits was the best live band I’ve seen.
@@vinylrichie007 i love black flag but they are no comparison to bad brains musically or live performance.
@@ceevishus4130 I 've seen Black Flag several times and Bad Brains twice. Black Flag were most definitely at times better. I only saw Bad Brains twice though.
Crowd has no idea what they were witnessing!!
A blend of The Clash , Sex Pistols , D.O.A. , Entombed , Bolt Thrower & Bob Marley .
No shit.
A MASTERPIECE 🌪🏆
Lol, your absolutely right
When early man saw a bow and arrow used for the 1st time they had no idea it would be a game changer from that moment on
My thought as well. Pearls before swine!
What a performance! Earl Hudson is an insane drummer!
Everything, even H.R's dance moves, were way ahead of the game in that era. Their induction into the HoF shouldn't even need a vote.
trueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Fuck the so-called HoF. That shopping mall isn’t worthy of the Brains.
Screw the RRHOF
I was at this show purely by accident. I drove up from Tequesta (Jupiter Beach) with my girlfriend and...holy shit...Bad Brains were playing! I still love those guys!
Great moment of your life...I believe that you feel nostalgy
jealous bro maaaaaaan
James Brown, Bob Marley, and Iggy Pop in one down to earth package. HR, the amazing man of music. Bad Brains one of the greatest bands in Rock 'n' Roll history.
This is what peak performance looks like. This is POWER.
Day Tripper came out of nowhere. Best version I've ever heard!
Man this needs a dvd release.
I agree
A betamax tho
Hell yea!!
Wow Dr. Know is an amazing guitarist.
+Kaliye Palata One of my favorites riff masters !!
+Kaliye Palata Doc rules.
+Kaliye Palata they did start as a fusion band
Blazing.
For sure. I read that he was into Jazz Fusion before making the move to punk, so it shows.
I WILL FOREVER FUCKING LOVE THIS BAND!!
H.R still gives me chills whenever I hear him sing. What a unique style.
That backflip at the end is legendary
Dr Know doesn’t get enough attention for being a bad ass and proficient guitarist!
Bad Brains rocked!!!
Doc is no man! He's a shredding machine! Unique style and sound there wasn't a guitar player that could touch him, then and now. Give it up for the Doc!
A great, great band who deserved to be much bigger. I bought their debut album on cassette in 1982, and it knocked me down.
Dr. Know is easily one of the most overlooked guitarists of all time, Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax would have killed to have a musician
in that league. The only American group that can also play reggae, no mean feat.
At least, The Beastie Boys recognized their brilliance. They were a class act.
We ALL recognize the BRILLIANCE of the ⚡BRAINS⚡
👑👑👑👑 #ThinkAndGrowRich #ChristConciousness
Keep flippin tables .... Just like Jesus! ♥️✝️💕⚓🤜🏾♥️🤛🏻⚓
Sometimes it's best to stay RIGHT HERE in the UNDERGROUND.
We ♥️ BADBRAINS ⚡
Amazing guitarist, both for his rhythm and lead playing
Real talent and magic. You could take the best of todays so called music and it couldn’t carry these guys piss to the toilet.
One of the most intense and tight performances you’ll ever see. Holy shit.
If a time machine is ever invented, I NEED to go back to see this concert. Face-meltingly good.
HR on top of his game and super athletic- flew over that fence like nothing!
Apparently he was an awesome athlete in HS
This is insanely awesome. H.R.’s energy is like a nuclear reactor.
meant to watch a song and then move on, can't look away.
ONE of the Greatest, Most Influential Bands of all time. Also one of the least known and celebrated. Lets ALL do our part into spreading BAD BRAINS to the younger generation!!!!
This is incredible. I can't believe I've never seen it. Bad Brains are a precision bludgeoning machine. They must have been touring a lot because they are really tight here. Ferocious.
Ferocious, frightening, brutal, beautiful, ground-breaking... incredible.
That backflip is awsome.
Legends!!! PMA
The Bad Brains: THE PRIDE OF WASHINGTON D.C !!!!!!
Gotta love HR.
He was one of the best frontmen ever in his prime
I don't Love
You just gotta love the fact that Bad Brains are enjoying themselves and having fun regardless of that braindead crowd. Best HC punk band ever!
They were ready for that…. Too much of a civilized society that is hooked to the machine.
I bet most of them had no idea what they were going to see at the beach. A few real fans there with the shirts on.
was looking for this comment. ive been listening(mostly) to this upload for 10+ years and am really just noticing how lame the crowd is. its like they are being disrespected. they opened so well..
There were cops surrounding the area pulling out anybody who was getting out of line
I went to the only Bad Brains gig in San Antonio, around 1983-1984. Just like in this video, everyone was standing around. When the greatest band in the world broke out into "Attitude" I couldn't stand it any longer! Me & my friend just began running full-force into everyone near the stage! Drinks spilled, club-goers in shock, boyfriends chasing us, it didn't fucking matter! Dr Know did a backflip, many started slamming without care, a proper pit formed, and I witnessed perhaps the greatest live performance I've ever seen! I just don't get why all these posers in this video are fucking standing around?!?
Wow! This video just hit 100,000 views! I love the bad brains. They are the top influence in my life and looking back on the years it is amazing the things i have done because of this influence. God bless! Remember people, being different can redefine the world. It has always been this way.
thanks so much for this video
great human you are!! Great post!!
216000 views!
Same way I feel about them!
251,000 views and going! Rasta lives!
house of suffering,,holy shit the energy HR has is addictive!
She’s Calling You performance is wayyyyyyyy too good. SUPERVIBES
#BADBRAINS⚡saved our LIVES
I saw them twice, around '85 to '87. People used to yell, "Play Pay to Come" and they'd say, "We don't even remember how to play our old songs." I think I saw them at the Metro in Chicago in '85, and they played only reggae, refused to play any fast stuff. People were pissed. It was a good thing when I Against I came out, because it was so good, people didn't complain as much about missing the hardcore stuff.
DailyBrusher Yep I remember that show but the crazy thing is I'd seen them in Denver during that tour and they played a great mix lmfao
"Pay to Cum" is on their 1987 Live album. So is "I"
One Word…… P.M.A.!!! 💪 💚 (SHOW WAS IN DAYTONA BEACH @ THE BAND SHELL)
Fr tho PMA👊 These guys are such crucial pioneers in not just the whole punk scene but in musical expression of all forms and thought leaders in all walks. They’ve influenced a whole generation and will long continue to inspire creation and positivity, in countless forms, far past our time here. 2023 Go Punkers!! BTW, the view rn regarding Bad Brains is amazing while I sit re-watching this past event captured as best it could be, now cemented in history. Someone with some true musical wisdom hand their hand in this for BB to be involved with the MTV (emptyV) beach party!! I had no idea who BB was beforehand or of what this day would come to mean to myself. Sometime after noon I unenthusiastically walked a couple minutes from my regular spot at the beach up to the boardwalk just to say I checked out the music, heard a couple radio-rock songs I knew I already wasn’t into, be in disbelief at how many people only listen to what they are fed, lose faith in finding my own home in music, walk away a judgmental elitist and wait until I could play good enough to show the world the beat of the drum I was marching to. I had no clue what was about to happen but I was ready. Ready as you can be, this exact live performance would impact me for life, change my views on what can be done with music!! 🎉 I assumed this show was long forgotten, almost erased in a sense to everyone but myself. IDK loI I KNEW these guys were doing something special, magical, waaaay back then. I still can’t believe they played that venue via MTV to this day! What an odd collab for so many insider reasons! You had to be there and MTV was a whole different entity back then, sorry! Lol It’s such a relatively small unassuming bandshell on the beach but I did see some legendary bands there play there now that I think of it. I was warned not to go up on the boardwalk and just to stay on the beach like normal as I was only 12 years old. “Idk why you’d wanna listen to that noise they call music nowadays anyways!” I agreed with her on a lot of the music and still do. I was trying to find MY OWN music aside from what I knew from my time training as a classical pianist, sorting through the “crap the kids call music nowadays” as my piano teacher called it and Dad’s music which was the best so far, but still his music. So then, while sneaking into the area from the beach as an impressionable 12 year old seeker I became more and more excited as I followed this very energetic sound straight to the bandshell. It was something I never heard before. It was super fast. It was angry. It was furious. It was just what I was looking for. I had found it here, in Bad Brains, first. I have always held their music in the highest regard while being an attentive and serious student to their MESSAGE and perfectly suited accompanying drive, energy, fearlessness, charisma and style of each instrument! They’ve never let me down. 🙌👏 True, timeless LEGENDS!!!
PS show was 3 mins from my house (IN DAYTONA BEACH), not West Palm Beach, FL
I had no idea the magnitude of that particular show as I see and hear it now for the 2nd time, but I can say I did know I was in the right place and time just like I still know exactly where I’m at now is the best place for me. I almost forgot that I played the bandshell once myself. Wow, I played on the same stage as the original Bad Brains!! So lit, so fire, so rad, so crunk, so cool, so damn punk 😂 😉CHEERS my friends!!!!
If you read all that, allow me to take you on a second date 🙏
bad brains was way ahead of its time
I also was at this show. I was amazed that there was actually going to be a great show at the Bandshell (Daytona Beach). Other acts to have graced the stage around this time included Starship and Heart. I think that many people walking by saw the band and thought hey look, a reggae band. What a shock for some, but my friends and I were in total bliss.
What's the story of this show? Promotion or festival?
MTV free gig! I was there 😊
This live is amazing I m 17 years and i listen to bad brains, they one of my favourite punk band!!!
STAY PUNK... This is a way of life! We don't pose! ⚡
Good boy!🎉
This band should have been in the R&R hall of fame by now. Still can't understand how they didn't achieve major success
The reason you have to understand is that HR refuse to be a part of the commercial/corporate system. He wanted to remain loyal to the punk scene and stay that way. Not in the RRHF.
Fuck the RRHOF
spent my teens in the 80's and saw some of the most awesome shows. the Bad Brains, Suicidal, Jerks, Kennedys, Black flag, Descendants .. seemed like every month there was an awesome session going down. these guys were in their prime.
Epic! This crowd at the show is killing me! SO 1980's spring break... much different then the hardcore DC and CBGB shows they were a custom to.
THAT WAS UN-FRIGGIN-BELIEVEABLE MAN!!! I saw the Bad Brains at least a dozen times between 1982 and 1991 and that show reminded me of the very best moments from all those shows... thank you from the bottom of my heart bro!
2024
.. e isso é bem atual e vívido pra mim. Geração que faz sentido em o que sou hj. Punk hardcore Still Here! Um abraço a todos que vivem isso , nas veias, ossos , coração e alma. De São Paulo Brasil, 🇧🇷🤘
LOVE this band; saw them open for Living Colour at the Aragon Theater in Chicago back in the 90s when Living Colour was promoting their Stained album and Bad Brains had come out with the God of Love album!! Dr. Know is one of the greatest, most underrated guitarists ever!!
#GODofLOVE is such an incredible album.👑👑👑👑
#JUSTICEKEEPERS⚡
one of their best performances ive seen, and that backflip at the end... lots of respect.
I love this band and this period so much... what a band. For me the ultimate hardcore punk band... nothing come close to them.
The Circle Jerks always blew everyone away. The best live band I saw was Black Flag as a 5 piece with Chuck Biscuits on drums.
Ends with H.R. doing a freakin' back flip! Legendary! Incredible version of At The Movies!
HR at the top of his game! Brains on the beach! This is a classic vid!
Back then HR and dr. know had great energy back then. but today age is showing HR forgets his lyrics and gets nervous when the crowd goes wild.. but nevertheless this band is still one the bands I pull out all the stops to go and see whatever on a good night or a bad night as they are my biggest inspiration in my guitar playing
all praise to Jah✌
Love watching these guys. They always play with ferocity and precision.
I walk through this venue everyday on my way to work. Killer memories
Saw them back then and the opener's was Goo Goo Dolls! That show left me emotionally and physically Drained ! First few songs roadies duct taped HR to a Childs school desk and We thought for sure he was gonna fall but he didn't! This was by far the best Live show I had ever seen!
this is AMAZING. There is so precious little footage of Bad Brains in their peak era.
F@cking fierce! HR was ON for sure, House Of Suffering was was faster and heavier than on record.
Anyone see Sublime with Brad cover House Of Suffering back in the day? After Brad died the Long Beach Dub Allstars would do it sometimes. Good stuff!
They put the hard in hardcore for real. They would blow the doors off of many groups
everybody with brain loves them
Bad Brains with HR dam ! I love these guys they are pure from the heart they kick ass ! ✌️😖✌️🎸
the yahoo serious collection my ass!
i was the first one to share this on e-mule & kazaa etc. and the first you tube channel that ever shared this and other bad brains videos was "howthewestwaswon2" (before the channel got deleted due to bullshit copyright claims from sst).
Best band ever.
Day tripper with the "she's a rainbow-rolling stones" within the rasta tangent was fucking awesome 👌
Saw them same year in London UNBELIEVABLE. One the best days of my life
That's a mindblowing concert... lucky Floridians those who watched it live.
What a band. You have to be young to sing this music. Otherwise, you'll stroke out. Thanks, MTV, for the memories.
a very passionate, pioneering band probably too raw and abrasive to ever be appreciated by the masses.
So sad to see how they are now with HR totally subdued and almost incapacitated but still aware of the music. This was epic.
I have seen him since you wrote this comment and he is doing so much better since having the operation for that #GOODBRAIN⚡
*BLACKandWHITEMUSTUNITE* -HumanRights
Bad Brains at their peak!!! So good!!! So epic!!!
Never saw them before, only heard them, I am from The Netherlands,
i am concerned about US, watch the news everyday, please
Take eachothers Hands, and share against maga! Europe counts on Ya!
And is angry 2! Bands like this are more needed now, then in 1987! Keep the Passion!
one of the best band ever ,, thanks for upload 😎👍
That crowd is fucking laaaame!
They probably weren't expecting this lol
There like "what no reagee?"
South Florida
Also looks like a Spring Break event
The mighty Bad Brains and Super HR!!!
Awesome...saw back in 1983. Wild!!!
What amazing footage of one of the best bands ever
Cool. That black Model 3 must've been 'new technology' back then... sounds terrifying.❤ In over thirty year's i have never seen another guitarist use one exactly the same,...😎
what a great concert, the ocean behind. 1987....people were so cool. I saw the bad brains 3 times Paris, San Fran New York and there after
The musicianship just blows you away!
Thank you for posting this. I saw them in 87 in London, the most powerful rock group I ever saw. Every now and then I have to come back here and recharge.
*Rock For Light* remains one of the top Punk Albums of all time.
So amazing! Thank you for posting. This is such great video of HR.
Thanks for posting this!!!
When you look up bad-ass bassist in the dictionary the definition reads DARRYL JENIFER. Met him at a club where they were playing one time and me being a scrawny Canadian lad I needed BOTH hands just to shake his one ! Super nice cat, soft spoken, and a MONSTER musician. No band like them before or since - one of a kind. The 'Day Tripper' groove here is so deep you could sail an aircraft carrier through it with room to spare. Fantastic stuff.
I have yet to see another video, especially after 1987, that captures the Bad Brains as I knew them in the 80s. This is an extraordinary document right here!
I saw Dr. Know with Mos Def, Bernie Worrel, and the bass playing and drummer for Living Colour. Man, great show, Mos Def was feeling like shit so it was pretty short set but it was awesome seeing these amazing musicians.
TNX A LOT FOR THE CHANSE TO SEE THIS GUYS:ITS AN VERY OLD VIDEO: JUST LOVE THE WAY HE SINGS:
Hell yes thanx for uploading ❤️
Unbelievably Good thank you for keeping this up ❤️
I can't get over how incredible this show is. Floored.
Give thanks for posting... blessed is you.
That is the greatest thing on the internet, thank you.
So amazing, I'm shocked i just heard about them, this music it redefining in so many ways!
Thanks so much !
I remember seeing them for the first time in the late 70s at the legendary Madams Organ in DC.
Agreed......Seen the BB's many times back in the day. People were going nuts....diving off the stage and each other. In Peace and Joy. Even the girls....LOL.
Only got to see them live on the one occasion. Glad i went to the show. It was a great show and the whole band performed magnificently. An excellent band! Cheers!
One of the greatest live bands ever...
Thanks for sharing. Much love to Bad Brains.
This vid is a legend. I used to watch it 10 years ago but as time goes by it is becoming a more precious piece of “some surreal existance”
First show at 16 i ever saw was Bad Brains at the Revival in Philly in 88...blew my mind this world existed!
thanks for uploading it, great show excellent
