Too true about the dangers of wet rocks...Also the bow wave of ships..when you least expect it..nearly broke my wrist....I always walk on the barnacles now...better grip!
i recently bought a pair of tretorn swedish wellies for my scottish pollack fishing, i screwed kold kutter studs into the soles and the difference in unbelieveable, the grip you get on wet rocks is fantastic, after i twice got put on my back by rogue waves on skye i thought i'd better up my game
The larger Pollock was an excellent catch. When I was in the UK, I was on the ferry to Larne Ireland, I got Pollock n chips(battered, deep fried) what a surprise, it was delicious and up there with my favorites.
Love this channel and makes it look so easy. I fish along several spots on north east coast of Ireland and not caught a single thing yet. I'm new to lure fishing so sticking with it but boy it is frustrating at times.
CAL!!! Just saw you about 45 minutes ago crossing to the harbour. Dodging traffic and two people on bikes. That was me and Miss Bliss. Couldn't stop to say hello as we were caught up in the moving traffic and you looked to be on a mission. Hope to catch you in a pub over the next few days. Cheers man. Jack
@@FISHINGWITHCAL Hahaha - knew it was you! Sorry man - we were clipped in and on it up toward the Dorset Arms. Next time yeah. Also - are you on the leaderboard on the machine in the Ship & Crown - I mean how many Cals can there be?? Cheers brother. Jack
Hi cal I'm a new subscriber and your videos are very helpful, I listened to a podcast you were in on lure fishing it was very good information you said! 🇮🇪👍🏻
Youve got to book a weekend trip to the Beara in West Cork ireland mate. 4lbs is a an average one from the shore over here at times. Makes for some cracking sport
Nice Pollock, Cal, absolute blinder, how'd it taste? Weather is defo improving, the green flush has finally started throughout the hedgerows and spring is upon us. I'm all tackled up, new rods, reel, lures, etc, so I'll be smashing some Cornish water in the next couple of weeks. One of the locals I work with is gonna take me out and share some invaluable local knowledge. I can't wait. Likely be out tomorrow and Sunday for a spot of LRF tiddler bashing just to get to grips with all my new kit. Massive THANK YOU to you, Cal, your videos are extremely inspirational and have definitely contributed to reawakening my passion for angling!
Ahh that’s great to hear mate. I hope you have a good session. It won’t be long until the fishing starts to pick up where you are, plenty of species to target. LRF will be fun too, even if only smaller fish. Good luck and all the best. Cheers 🎣🎣
Fantastic pollack Cal - they are also great to catch and, like Wrasse, they head straight for the bottom or kelp snags so keep that drag tight! You need a net mate! Catching big fish on lures... whats not to like? I love a deep water rock mark. Tight lines! 🎣🐟
Love your videos and chilled style dude! Reminded me to take it easy and not put too much pressure on catching, just enjoy :D p.s. what gloves are they? Look ideal for winter luring
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to film a cook with this one. You can do all sorts with pollock, obviously battered is nice but curries etc also work well as you can add a lot more flavour to it. 👌🏼
It did yeah. It was tasty too. Pollock certainly isn’t a favourite of mine, I find it lacks a bit of flavour but seeing as I don’t have it that often it always goes down well.
It’s my bass set up mate. To be honest I normally use a Shimano Vanford 4000 on that rod for bass but I changed the reel to a Shimano Twin Power 5000. The rod is a Shimano Aernos 7-35g. It’s 9ft 👍🏼
God, that’s a tough question! It really depends on a few factors. What kind of beach you’re fishing from, what time of year, what the ground is like, etc etc. If you’re fishing from a sandy beach then I find a sandeel imitation lure can be deadly. If it’s over something like a lugworm bed then a Dolive or something will work well. Sometimes I’ll using a shallow running diver straight from the beach at night and that’s always productive. I honestly couldn’t tell you the two best lures. There are many.
Thanks for that ! I use 20lb braid and 16 or 17lb fluoro. Just cant believe it held the weight of that fish it was chunky. I caught a 61cm pollock last summer weighed in at 5lb. Was just on a spinning rod. I am just getting into lure fishing atm. Would love to catch a bass but not so easy here in N.I

There's nothing like a good Pollock in deep water they put up a great fight

I’d love to visit Ireland one day for some pollock fishing. You guys get some great fish over there compared to us.
Well in Cal !!
As always love all the videos as you know.
Have a good weekend!
Thanks a lot mate. I appreciate the comment 😁👍🏼🎣
Top drawer episode as always Cal! Well done mate! - SMITHY 😉🤙🎣🐟

Yet again another class video.
No need to apologise for the language m8, you could tell it was sweary words of excitement 👍

Thanks mate I appreciate it 👍🏼
The gloves aren’t a fishing brand. They’re just some I got from a local DIY store. They’ve lasted well though.
Liked and shared. 🎣🎣🎣🎣
Thanks David 👍🏼
Nice vid

awesome video man
Cheers 🤙🏼🎣
Nice one Cal
Cheers 🎣
Could you do a video on the lures your using this season ahead
I’ll be using a variety of lures mate. It all depends on what I’m targeting, where and when. I usually talk about the lures in the videos I make 👍🏼
Thats a cracking pollack cal.didnt mind the swearing as i would be saying alot more colourful ones.delighted you landed it.well done.
Haha thanks. It took me by surprise that’s for sure.
Top shift that fella
Lovely Pollock 👏👏👏
Just came across your channel and subscribed 👍 cracking content mate 👍 and Pollock 🎣 filleted and done in bear batter 👌🤤
Ahh cheers mate. Thanks for the sub 👍🏼 Yeah you can’t go round with battered pollock 👌🏼
Cracking pollack cal love the sink and draw method off marks like this absolutely deadly 🎣
Is that a gomexus handle you have put on the TP?
We’ve seen the catch now you must show us the cook ! I’m interested to see what you do with Pollack. Curry ? Battered ?
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to film a cook with this one. You can do all sorts with pollock, obviously battered is nice but curries etc also work well as you can add a lot more flavour to it. 👌🏼
Outstanding ! Has it graced your table by now ?
It did yeah. It was tasty too. Pollock certainly isn’t a favourite of mine, I find it lacks a bit of flavour but seeing as I don’t have it that often it always goes down well.
What rod and reel setup you using mate? Is it good for both bass and pollock
It’s my bass set up mate. To be honest I normally use a Shimano Vanford 4000 on that rod for bass but I changed the reel to a Shimano Twin Power 5000. The rod is a Shimano Aernos 7-35g. It’s 9ft 👍🏼
@@FISHINGWITHCALlovely set up Cal , that reel is super smooth , I just bought the twin power 6000 and shimano ballista 9ft awesome combo
That’s a lovely fish. What rod are you using Cal?
I'm using a 9ft Shimano Aernos 7-35g rod mate.
Nice shore pollack that mate well done
Cheers mate 👍🏼👍🏼
What braid type and pound do you use mate
I use 20lb braid from Samson fishing. I've also used 26lb Daiwa J Braid for a while too and really like that.
What’s the two best all round lures for beach fishing???

Nice pollack.Try sealing pollack up in tin foil and baking it in the oven - delicious and very delicate flavour.
A net would Help
Nice Video
True. I find nets a pain to carry around though. You’d need a good extendable one for that spot.
Fish length is measured to the fork of the tail, not the tip.
@@thorfinnravenfeeder in certain clubs/comps yes. Most of the time it’s measured to the tip of the tail.
@@FISHINGWITHCAL Well don't, go trying to make any record claims on the basis of such a measurement, as they would be automatically rejected.
@@thorfinnravenfeeder Sound. Whatever mate 👍🏼
Cal as usual great content cheers from Kent
Much appreciated mate! Cheers 👍🏼👍🏼
Hi Cal , Could I asked the size of your line ? Was you using braid and leader?
I was using 20lb braid mate. I’m not sure on the diameter because it’s a prototype. I use a 20lb fluorocarbon leader, usually about 3ft long.
Thanks for that ! I use 20lb braid and 16 or 17lb fluoro. Just cant believe it held the weight of that fish it was chunky. I caught a 61cm pollock last summer weighed in at 5lb. Terrific fish, nice to see it going home to the dinner table. Don’t like those rocks you fish off though.
Thanks. Yeah the rocks can be a bit hairy in bad conditions. They’re ok on the small tides though.
I enjoy your vids as much i enjoy watching Man City😅
😂👍🏼
You should have a crack at fly fishing for them. Its fun.
I’ve never done any fly fishing before but some day I’d like to give it a go yeah. Would also like to fly fish for bass too 👌🏼
Nice pollack.Try sealing pollack up in tin foil and baking it in the oven - delicious and very delicate flavour.
