    With 117K any chance of getting some decent wrenches, always makes me wince to see those awful adjustables and the damage they do to both nut and bolt

    • @TheGoodoftheLand
      @TheGoodoftheLand  6 років тому +20

      Tony Bell I used them to prove a point. Not one nut was damaged. It's not the tools, it's the hands that use them. We had a ton of views from young men all around the world without access to a quality set of tools. I want them to know that they can get the job done with a few simple tools. Hope this helps.

    • @owainrichards4372
      @owainrichards4372 6 років тому +6

      As long as you adjust it so it fits nicely they don’t damage them

      Owain, because people like you believe this is precisely why I ask Channel makers not to promote bad engineering practise, I like this channel and am a subscriber

      Tony Bell if use them correctly they don’t damage anything I’ve been working with metal since I was 11 it’s not bad engineering if use them correctly if don’t adjust them correctly. I totally agree they can damage the nut and bolt but so can wrenches if they don’t fit correct it’s no different

      A lot of the fasteners were square head and unlikely damaged by an adjustable. Go polish your thousand dollar snap on wrench set so you can take the seat off your pink bike and ride it

    I absolutely love the knurling trick with the file and vise. Never seen that before. That made my day. When you think you know all the little tricks think again. Absolutely awesome.

    I just got done restoring the same grinder a couple of weeks ago. Wish I knew who made these and when. Mine is exactly like it but the pedals are fancier and cast. The thing that helped me the most was evaporust. It saved a lot of grinding and wire brushing.

    When the video first started I thought that some of the close ups were too close but then you must have thought so too. Your shots after those first two or three were great. I could see enough detail to know what you were doing and enough overall to know what part you were working on. Thank you so much for sharing the restoration of this piece of industrial history. I am not in a position to do this kind of thing myself but I really enjoy watching you and others do so. I hope you will be able to continue your useful and important work.

    I love the way these old tools were made to last a lifetime and longer with just a little repair or maintenance work.
    Now everything seems to be 'No user servicable parts' and the manufacturer just wants you to buy a new one as often as possible.
    Nice job, glad you kept the character.

    Loved this project! I've always wanted a working one of these to sharpen my axes with - I love my axes and use them a fair bit, and I hand sharpen them with stones. Then I took a trip to Grindstone City, Michigan and saw all of the grindstones there - some so big I don't think even my truck could move them - and got fired up about the treadle grinder idea again. There's a house on my running route that had a grinding-wheel size stone set out as decoration and half buried, and when they moved I picked it up for $20. I have no idea where I'd get the treadle from, but I'd love to get this thing working again. Loved your work!

    Adam over at Abom79 turned me on to your channel. This is the first video I’ve seen from you. Look forward to many more.
