I'm reading Eleanor Oliphant right now and I already miss her. I'm not even halfway through and I'm already so charmed by her weird self. The characters come alive so easily through those pages!
Hey guys I am here because I am looking for help for an exam which is coming up in a week which is based on a novel that we (the students) do not know. However, my university professor spilled some information on the novel, mainly that the novel or a certain chapter/scene of the novel is said to play in a house/appartment on 89/Lamberton (street), which seems to be a very specific type of information if you ask me. If anyone out there happens to have read a novel which included this address I would be thankful if you could leave a short reply under this comment, stating the title and author of the novel. Thanks a lot in advance and have a nice weekend 😊 and to those who are also in the midst of writing exams: Good luck 👍
SO TRUE ON NOUGHTS AND CROSSES!! I borrowed it from my school library and i was literally sobbing in my room at night reading it, its a whole rollercoaster ride. The writing style is beautiful and so real i could really feel it happening around me. 100% reccomend it!
I love Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine❤ Its such a nice book which tells us about the daily life of a person who is so used to loneliness that it is her comfort zone and how she slowly find a acquaintance -turned-friend,slowly start thinking about other people significant to her. Then she slowly think come to terms with how she had been resisting to look past her sad past and how she ultimately come to a level where even when she live alone, she finally has someone to turn for when in need
Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow absolutely knocked me on my ass and I did not expect it!! One of my favorite books ever!! And Swimming In the Dark is criminally underrated. I am so happy to see you recommend it!
This Is How You Lose The Time War as a recommendation for EEAAO is perfect! My favourite film and my favourite book, because they both just hit so perfectly.
Such a great premise for a recommendations episode! For me the two books that have recently just completely floored me and engaged me and reignited my relationship to reading are Lamya H's Hijab Butch Blues and Alice Oseman's Loveless. I just felt completely seen by these two books and felt they were really spoke to me as a person. They'd appeal to anyone who wants to read about queer experiences that still aren't well represented in the world of literature - reading these books felt like quenching a deep insatiable thirst I didn't know I had
Jack !!! Please read "The Little Paris Bookshop" by Nina George if you haven't already. It's a book about loving books and more specifically about a bookseller who has the ability to tell what books his customers need, books that will heal their souls. I recommend this book to anyone who's reading this comment, trust me on this; it's life-changing. It will also make you want to live in Paris (lol). This book feels like a warm hug, I've never read a book before that I wanted to re-read over and over again, but this book changed that.
Jack love your choices. I really enjoyed 'The Siberia Job' a white-knuckle ride! The author expertly captures the chaos of post-Soviet Russia with a flair for tension and historical detail. It's a 'can't-put-down' kind of book - fast-paced, exhilarating, and packed with suspense!
Wow im so thrilled you mentioned Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl! I bought it from my local LGBT bookstore a year or two ago and havent read it yet. I've never heard anyone mention it
How High We Go in the Dark 1000%! I had to back and skim it again when I got to the end. I had to wait two days before starting a new read because I couldn't get it out of my head.
Jack saying "Paul takes the form of a mortal girl" 2:20 is giving the dame energy as Ed Sheeran's "After the storm something was born on the fourth of july" in End Game
Hey Jack! Wanted to let you know about the Philadelphia Bookstore Map, which was just released! It was a grassroots effort to create a map that shows all the bookstores in Philly--could be a fun video idea whenever you're in the US again!
Would appreciate book recs from any of y’all A book that will make you shed the tears that you didn’t know you were holding back Or anything that a cat lounging in the sun would read/for a trip to the beach. Also anything that is just good vibes and makes you feel at peace being alone in nature.
For the first one I would recommend As long as the lemon trees grow by Zoulfa Katouh & the second one I would recommend The travelling cat chronicles by Hiro Arikawa because it has a cat and travels (a bit sad too)
LOVE that there are so many Korean authors in your recommendations! I’ve always wanted some absolute gems in Korean literature to reach a wider audience so people could finally give them the hype they deserve 😭 Great video like always ❤
East of Eden is also a great conversation piece for a job interview. Didn’t get the job in the end, but I had a great conversation with the headhunter about literature
how dare you post this just one hour after i boarded the train for my two-week long trip, i literally watched every other "specific recommendations" videos to find a book for this
Another book with Everything Everywhere All At Once energy is called Interworld by Neil Gaiman and Michael Reeves. It's a YA series about this guy who discovers he can travel between the multiverse. And in this multiverse, there are more science-based worlds and more magic-based ones, and the two sides are at war. So the mc teams up with his alternate selves to fight the big bads orchestrating this war. It doesn't have the mother/daughter-themed emotional depth of EEAAO, but it's great for multiverse shenanigans!
'I feel like people will be studying this book [Hamnet] in years to come'. I studied this in my university honours in the year before last. People are already studying it, at least here in Australia.
For 'feels like old classic lit but isn't', I'd recommend The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Similar vibes to Rebecca or Jane Eyre, but in a modern book.
Another great book for the 'train observations' is the day i stopped drinking milk by sudha murty. Shes an indian educator and the book is basically her observations in everyday life as someone who likes to help and sees potential in everyone. One of the stories (i think it was around 10 in total) takes place in an overfilled train, which is why I remembered the book. It's a great insight in the different parts of India and the multiple parts of culture there, and since murty is such a loyal person and treats everyone the same It's so heartwarming and heartbreaking at times. It's probably my fave non fiction i ever read
Wow, this video is a literary treasure trove! 📚💎 I can't believe how brilliantly unique and oddly specific these book recommendations are for hot book summer! 😎📖 Each suggestion seems like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. From quirky characters to unusual settings, it's refreshing to explore beyond the usual bestsellers. Thanks for curating such an intriguing list - you've just made my summer reading list much more exciting! Can't wait to dive into these captivating reads. 🌞📚
I should sleep,it's 12.30 am in India. And I am hogging Jack's recommendations, tickling my pickle at this hour while Jack is wide awake in another timeline 😂❤ am I getting obsessed???
This video made me think of how little sadly gets translated into English. I realized I have read an amazing book that more or less fits the description "an endless journey on a train where the main character only observes people". Hytti nro 6 (Compartment nr 6) by Rosa Liksom, unfortunately it's only available to those who read either Finish or Swedish. (There's a movie I haven't seen though that's probably available with subtitles.) It made me think of how great it is that Jack often champions literature translated into English.
jack is truly our book boyfriend come to life.
No but yes
Aah yesss !! Can not forget about it now ❤
Hopefully not, most of the characters I’ve seen described by other people as "book boyfriends" have killed multiple people before.
@morganmeadowes6861 that's fair. Jack is the boyfriend we all actually want lol
Could not agree more

@@poorvinandwana honestly! I've read like 10 books last year, and I'm trying to reach atleast 30 this year

Me too! I finished it a month or so ago and keep thinking about how wonderful a second book would be. I adore her character.
How bizzare, I really didn't like it or her very much. It felt grey.
