I was in kindergarten when I first experienced the feeling of sonder. I was paying attention to my teacher and she offhandedly mentioned her husband and I realized that she had a home outside of school. She had a life and kids and grandkids and she was going to go home and take off her vibrant red lipstick she wore every day and take off her big glasses and she would lay down and go to sleep next to her husband.

You’d think libraries would be booming given the amount of information we have to deal with.
Can you elaborate on that though as apparently I am not intelligent enough to get it. Like, most of the information we have to deal with is digital and we all have computers at home and in our pockets?? Why would that motivate people to go to a library?
I think that @pokhrajroy is stating that in most libraries there is a lack of access to the digital world full of insensitive and often fake/non-informative discourse that perplexes the internet and obviously, some books do add to that and are not necessarily factually correct. however, I think, on the other hand, that libraries are buildings filled with information that may seem scary to others, especially due to the fact that they are considered to be places for “intelligent” and “academic” individuals, as well as the fact you have to choose what you see, rather than be fed what the algorithm thinks you want to see. for most people, who would need to access libraries for free media (rather than just to support libraries) would be working class but the buildings (as someone working class), never feels as though they are for people like me - so I think there are multiples arguments to be made for both going to the library and not going to the library

Hi late to the thread, but I'm a librarian and this couldn't be farther from the truth! Public libraries provide access to computers and the internet for those who can't afford it, many provide access to essential services, and they're one of the few places where our unhoused population is welcome in cities like mine. Libraries exist to serve the community, and if you look into your local library, I think you'll find they've got a lot of cool things going on

Just a little trigger warning for "All the Lovers in the Night" (6:16), a very prominent theme of the book is alcoholism, which is not really mentioned in the blurb or in Jack's review. So if you are, like me, someone who is triggered by graphic descriptions of alcohol abuse, be aware :)
Do we seriously need a trigger warning for everything now? I was watching a video the other day and someone said “trigger warning for spousal cheating”. You can’t walk through the world having a trigger warning for everything that makes you feel uncomfortable. Trigger warnings are for those things that could cause serious harm through ptsd. Not just stuff you’ve been through that makes you a little sad. I had a violent alcoholic father, I don’t need a trigger warning every time a book mentions people drinking. How do you even exist in the world without a constant trigger warning? Grow up!!

I'm sorry you don't think people deserve a choice of deciding for themselves whether they want to re-trigger their traumas. The beautiful thing about fiction is that you DO have a choice of putting in trigger warnings, as opposed to real life, where your traumas are triggered enough as it is by every day events, and I would suggest you take a look at why you feel like you are entitled to call someone pathetic for choosing to avoid a theme that will send them spiraling for days

@@KristianaCembre Well think about it this way too, it's not just for people with trauma, some people are recovering alcoholics and read/hearing/watching things surrounding alcohol might "trigger" them back into alcoholism. Does everything need to have a trigger warning? No. But just because I trigger warning is not for you and isn't beneficial to you, does not mean that it is not useful for someone else.
Every time I start to struggle with finding new books and keeping my passion for literature you end up posting. Thanks for being the keeper of our literature candle

You don’t give it too much thought, it’s an impulsive “want”, but you’ve absolutely got no clue or context as to why you absolutely “need it”.

Hello, Jack! A book that I think you'll enjoy, given that you love Shuggie Bain, is Loved and Missed by Susie Boyt. It deals with themes such as: addiction, love, loss, motherhood, death, despair, and belief. It's a quiet novel, but it's beautiful as well.

Amar and Querer are two verbs that are so similar and so different at the same time but in English you only translated them in Love.

Definitely going to check out All the Lovers in the Night. One of my favorite memories from my first trip to Japan was when my husband and I decided to go for a nice nighttime walk in the rain. The rain started going sideways and we ended up getting lost and soaked. 😂 It was an adventure.

the i have some questions for you reminds me of a good girl's guide to murder by holly jackson. That book series got me out of my reading slump immediately. The book is a mystery/thriller about a girl who wanted to do a project about a girl's murder in their hometown and she found out what happened but there's actually more into it than just one murder. They're making a tv show of it soon and I'm so excited to watch it!

Another book that is really good for the addiction request is “Beautiful Boy” by David Sheff! It talks about a father’s journey through his son’s addiction to drugs!
I'm about to read "Beautiful Boy". I have finished reading Tweak by Nic Sheff, the son, and it is harrowing but recommended if you want to know addiction from the point of the addict.
"Beautiful Boy" is a very good and moving film as well.

This is book about love stories from strangers. Trent is a brilliant author from australia, write fiction and his book boys swallows universe into a netflix show. He literally dat on a typewritter outside in brisbane and asked people for there stories ❤️❤️
i feel like you would LOVE turkish lit and i really really recommend Bilge Karasu's works. he's a modernist writer and his novel "Night" won the 1994 Pegasus Prize for literature. The original name of the novel is "Gece", I am currently reading it and it's just incredible. He has a very poetic way of writing, though I haven't read the english translation yet I'm sure his writing is still shining in it since he actually helped with the translation. His writing and just his way of using the words is kinda hard to understand, it really requires the reader to focus and become a part of the book while reading but it is truly an incredible experience. You really really need to read it!! I would love to see your opinion on it.

I enjoy reading books too! Although I am not satisfied with the translated editions, I am not proficient enough to read English-edition books on my own. With the help of the web extension Immersive Translate, I can grasp the basic meaning of the passages. I hope I can get closer to these intriguing books.

I would also recommend a book called "Hustle Heights", it changed my life like I could never imagine. It has some valuable life lessons and wealth advices I've never heard about. It really made a big impact on my life and if you guys want a book that will teach you something you never learned about then this is the one.

I could not get past 50 pages of "Happy Hour", thought it was terrible. Closed it, considered throwing away, but left it a a little library we have in the neighborhood.

I actually gave this a 3 star, because it was just like ¨um k that had nothing to do with the world it was supposed to be in¨ but the character was awful to him the moment they met, but the audio book was TO DIE FOR! i think it was what got me into audio books (on Libby for free) to begin with.... (not to one up the best book tuber in the whole world or anything) but that book is the def of stuff hitting the fan.....(i cant say anything else with out spoiling it)
