Let's say you're an alleged victim in a case, and for whatever reason, you don't want to follow through with the charges. You can fill out a non-prosecution affidavit. It basically states that you are the victim of the crime and well aware of the charges but you're not going to hold anyone responsible if the case is dismissed.
