To be fair, Yang was still only an inexperienced student at the time. Sure Yang beat up some normal thugs here and there and has a strong semblance, but she never fought anyone like Neo before (that and she was already tired from not having much sleep at the time, IIRC), so Neo effortlessly owning Yang isn't really anything to brag about for her.
I mean, Neo got casually stomped on and forced to flee by a Raven who wasn't even using her own Maiden powers, while Cinder was good enough to have an extended battle against a fully pissed off and all out Raven and, if not win, at least manage to not die. Being able to force Cinder (who, admittedly, didn't even want to fight) to pull out Maiden powers is a pretty hefty power up for Neo.
Cinders logic is flawed. It was Cinder that got Roman killed. Because CInder forced Roman to get involved with that plan. It was CInders Plan to release the grimm. Cinder is the cuase for Romans death.
@@GenshinLover283 Yes, I was going off that plus this, which appears to be another brute-force assault. The important part is there are now two data points.
Neo's fighting style, as can be surmised based on her fights, uses flexibility to counterattack opponents and literally weave around them, pretty much dominating fighters who rely on simple brute force (like Yang). Got to dance around like Neo to beat Neo.
@@blxoom Neo isn't that easily swayed, she knows she can't beat Cinder alone with her maiden powers. She's probably just waiting for the right time to take Cinder out and using her to get to Ruby.
If Neo became the Vegeta of this series and just comes and goes as she pleases and maybe work with Ruby and the others she might top Yang for me as fav character.
What's even more amazing about this scenes design is Jess Williams musical composition with Casey Lee almost singing the lyrics of Neos emotions or words. Through Casey you can tell Neo really loved Roman and he was important to her. That's what made this scene even more awesome to me. And at the end there were no words being sung by Casey because there were no words Neo wanted to convey at that point. Just anger. She just wanted to hurt Cinder. So there were no words needing to be spoken/sung.
It's so funny how the mob lady is like, "How about you take it outside?" And Neo and Cinder look at each other and the next thing we see is them breaking through the window. I'm imagining Neo looking at Cinder before then and bobbing her head at the door like she's miming, "The door?" And Cinder's already breaking through the glass like, "WINDOW!"
"How about you take it outside?" They both paused, silence passes as they slowly turned to the other. Neo gives Cinders a look as if asking if they should actually take the fight outside, while Cinders simply shrugs. Neo sighs, bobbing her head in the direction of the door. She couldn't speak so she hoped this would convey enough to Cinders that they should walk out. Cinders, either out of pure ignorance over what Neo tried to convey, spite or not noticing the other's movement. She yells, "THE WINDOW" then turns around and bolts towards the window while Neo quickly follows her wondering why the fuck they couldn't just walk out the door like normal people.

Neo is the absolute reason I want to have an umbrella just like hers ad practice fighting with it. Also, I'm not sure if I agree with the green eye shadow....
Am I the only one a tad bit sad that her eye colors didn't change or switch the whole fight...? I explicitly remember both eyes were white when she got scared... Edit: Guys, it wasn't an animation error. If it was, it wouldn't be so consistent and it would have been solved by volume 3 because even during that time, her eye colors switch. Also, it's a part of her uniqueness. It's why the camera paid close attention to it during her first fight with Yang! So removing it? Just shows how lazy they are to animate that...
Her eye colours also swapped depending on whether she was on the defensive or offensive. When her eye colours matched the sides of her hair, she was defending, but they swapped when she switched to attack. Maybe they just forgot. ... Or Neo wasn’t even trying this whole fight.
Well technically Ruby didn’t kill Roman. It was the Grimm he was the one who decided to go up and fight while hundreds of Grimm were flying in the sky. He should have known one was bound to attack. But for the sake of the plot I’m going to leave it alone for now. But it was technically Cinder since she did threaten him with death if he didn’t corporate so Neo’s judgement wasn’t misplaced

I do appreciate how they kept the general floatiness of Neo's character during fights. How she curls up small during flips to speed up her trajectory and uses her umbrella to move herself around where she is fighting. Neo's fighting style is fluid and you can tell she knows how to use her surroundings properly because being an illusion user, everything is useful. Senses, movement, surroundings, memories, etc.. I love how everyone in this show knows Kung fu, and has special abilities. Almost like final fantasy or seven deadly sins. And the fights are beautifully executed.
I honestly think that's part of why there's so much fan content. The magic system (the modern one, not the ancient one that maidens and the like still use) is fun to workshop characters for, and then you get to have fun with the weapons because they can usually transform.
I love how if you slow it down and pause it at 0:55, you can see that Neo had the blade of her weapon out when she went for Cinder's throat. It's the little details that make this so good.
Sam Bradley if she-by some magical force-gets in, she can’t have any interactions with characters. It’s a shame since it would be awesome for her to have an interaction with Yang or Rabbit.
It seems like Neo has never seen Cinder use her maiden powers. She probably only knew just as much as Roman did, and followed Cinder's orders in the tournament because she knew it would end with him getting released.
I like it better when cinder fought hand to hand. Her fighting style looked ferocious. Blood thirsty. Much better than her throwing around fire and glass. Plus her more subtle uses of her power compared to flying around.
The way Cinder says Neo's name at 0:14 is one of my favorite parts of this video. For once, the unshakable Cinder is bewildered and possibly afraid of Neo, and she has no preparation for what will happen.
This is the first fight where Neo's been hit. Got hit once by a upward kick from Cinder and again by a kick that laid her out on that table right before Cinder fire-punched the floor. She's gotten stronger sure, but Cinder is still a force to be reckoned with.
Well actually, the Cinder was fighting a clone of Neo that entire time before they got outside. You can tell because the Neo that was shown outside had Roman's hat, damaged clothes, and a much more serious expression then she did in that den.
@@pisces6628 It's more than likely an illusion rather than a clone. Like, an illusory skin that makes her look unharmed. We have zero indication as to exactly what her semblance is. Amy Louise Wilson It was Roman’s own fault for monologuing about how “unfair” the world is while surrounded by monsters who are attracted to negativity.
Its technically rubies fault. She opened neos umbrella leading to the situation that got roman killed. Even if it was fated to happen anyways, at least neo would have been there to help. Even if she couldn’t help then at least she would know theres no one to blame but cinder. But since ruby caused neo to fly away it was rubies fault or least in neos head it is.
I love the little details like them both actually stopping when the woman tells them to take this outside, Neo's illusion lacking the ripped legging, necklace or hat, Neo's VERY evident fear in the face of Cinder's Maiden powers, her blinking the eye flame away, and of course, her reminding Cinder that she's mute with a look, prompting just an (embarassed?) 'Right...' from Cinder. That last bit is honestly pretty damn funny.
It's the same with Cinder, she's assuming who killed him without actually knowing who, just blaming whoever she can...Cinder was just the most logical, he died serving her, even if Ruby was the last one with him, he was there because of Cinder...idk that's the best I can rationalize a mute who seems to have no sense in her head
The one actual good fight after Volume 3. Its not as tight well paced as Monty's but they kept Neo's style quite loyal to what Monty did and really showed how good of a fighter she is by going toe to toe against Cinder (aka Plot armor lady)
I love Neo's Fighting style, redirecting the other person's energy from their swings and capitalizing on their openings. Badass. Also, anyone who can kick your ass with an UMBRELLA is a pretty nasty character.
Cinder's no slouch, She's the first character in the series to land actual solid hits on Neo, but Neo far outmatches her in terms of skill and fighting style. She was out of her element here without her Flame abilities. Even with weapons she still needed to use her maiden powers to force Neo to back down.
i just realized that Neo stopped fighting for two reasons: 1. She has maiden powers and clearly overpowered her 2. She was using wind, the one thing that almost killed her while she was fighting Ruby and basically the enemy to her umbrella
Not quite the strongest in that scenario, I think top tier elites like Qrow, Raven and Tyrian could probably defeat her in CQC, albeit with considerable difficulty. But she'd certainly rank in the top 10 for sure, though there's quite a bit of stiff competition there. I don't think she's the untouchable combat goddess people make her out to be, but she is still extremely skilled and capable, especially for someone in her early 20s.

Honestly I don’t think Cinder was to blame for Roman’s death. Roman knee full well what was going to happen, he got cocky and got fucked.
It's not her Logic, shes manipulating Neo
Deadly Malice not really he was already a criminal to begin with, it was for his own game and it fucked him over in the end.

I’m pretty sure that was already established when she fought yang.
@@GenshinLover283 Yes, I was going off that plus this, which appears to be another brute-force assault. The important part is there are now two data points.
What she lacks in strength she more than makes up for in acrobatics.
Neo's fighting style, as can be surmised based on her fights, uses flexibility to counterattack opponents and literally weave around them, pretty much dominating fighters who rely on simple brute force (like Yang). Got to dance around like Neo to beat Neo.

Casey Lee Williams is the voice of Neo, when she makes sounds like grunts and such.
It's so funny how the mob lady is like, "How about you take it outside?"
And Neo and Cinder look at each other and the next thing we see is them breaking through the window.
I'm imagining Neo looking at Cinder before then and bobbing her head at the door like she's miming, "The door?"
And Cinder's already breaking through the glass like, "WINDOW!"
"How about you take it outside?"
They both paused, silence passes as they slowly turned to the other.

Yea I would agree but at the same time cinder is probably still weak from her last encounter
Exactly that’s why she used it at the end.
I mean, Cinder didn't look like she was trying to beat Neo.
Keep the sweets dreams.
Cinder looked more like she was trying to incapacitate or knock her out of the fight, not necessarily kill or do anything major.
Neo is able to fight hand to hand against the autumn maiden with one hand behind her back
That's what I call being at another level
byMatias 150 That’s because she is using the umbrella as a sword and Cinder couldn’t use her powers in door because that would cause her attention and the crazy lady would of track her down and killed Cinder. You can see that Cinder only used her real power until they got outside.
Can we just take a second to appreciate Cinders raw hand to hand combat skills? Like DAMN she is a versatile fighter.

She was never scared
@@blues2270 She was when Raven first appeared to save Yang
Her eye colours also swapped depending on whether she was on the defensive or offensive. When her eye colours matched the sides of her hair, she was defending, but they swapped when she switched to attack. Maybe they just forgot.

The Neo in the bar was an illusion. She has no hat one and her clothes aren't the same.
TheMemester439 her real self wasn’t swapping eye colours either. Neither the illusions nor Neo herself seem to have kept her eye colour changing.
Vixen the demon fox Vixen I don’t think he really cared that he could get attacked at any moment. He was too drunk with power which made him the best villain

Every single fight Neo is In I’m just happy regardless of out come. Neo’s style is always elegant and flexible. I love those types of fighters
It's all useful to help get the edge on your opponent. She's not just a skilled fighter, she's clever in her use of semblance.
The spider lady really doesn’t know how out of place she is against those two.

If you took everyone's semblance away, Neo would be the strongest all around. She's OP bro.
There's a reason she's an absolute favorite and belovedly adored more than any other character.
