I’m currently watching from a hospital bed after surgery, your video was just what I needed to inspire me to use my gel plate when I get home, thanks, Kari 🤗
Yes, I’ve done the 100 day project for the first time this year and completed it! I did gel printing only and had an absolute ball. I simply LOVE your videos. You have such a relaxed way of explaining and a very soothing voice. I do believe I follow you on Instagram but I will go over now to make sure. 🥰
Well done Maz, the 100 day project is really worth doing, it may be tough, but we get a lot out of pushing ourselves, I feel. Yes, I know I am following you on IG, I haven't been on there for a while as I got a bit burned out after the 100 day project and am accidentally taking a break, LOL!
@@KariGibsonArt Thank you Kari. I made a sudden decision 2 days before it started and I am so glad I did it. I even surprised myself some days LOL! I was just so determined and I'm looking forward to do it again next year, but possibly on collage instead. Enjoy your IG break and I hope you return refreshed and full of inspiration. ☺
I’ll bet you are exhausted from 100 days❗️. I’ve never attempted it. Sometimes I have difficulty doing a 10-day challenge🤣🤣🤣. Your prints are very nice🦋🦋🦋🦋
Thanks so much Lynn, I am still exhausted now, 100 days is tough, but it is a great way to really get your teeth into a subject/technique/medium. I did get a lot out of it. 💗💗
I'm new to the gelli print process and after having a disastrous session with it yesterday I cleaned it and PUT IT AWAY. This video has shown me how to get the texture I was looking for with easy steps to follow, so I'll take it back out today and try again! Thank you!
What a fun technique! I still haven’t tried gel printing, and I really want to! Perhaps this summer. There’s just always so much to do. You have inspired me so much! I need to try it soon! 😃❤️
It’s hugely addictive. Just make sure you have loads of space around you for all your lovely prints. Best way to be successful is to know how transparent/opaque your paints are so you can layer effectively. Just work with a few colours to start with, otherwise it can get frustrating when you build a gorgeous layer in your plate then it blends into the background. And remember that you want to put on enough paint that it covers your plate, but you can still sort of see through it. But if you put on too much, like Kari did with the tissue paper layers, you just pull an additional print - ghost prints often are the best anyway. And if you don’t like a print it just needs more layers! Check out Froyle Art too. She’s a very enthusiastic fellow Australian, who is a genius with Gelli printing. Enjoy 😊
You are such a joy dear Kari... xx What a great technique - will be giving this a go for sure. Looking forward to your "intense" gel printing vids xx Hugs
Thank you so much Kari, I really really enjoyed watching you do this amazing Gell printing session. I’ve also learnt a lot from you already so I’m looking forward to seeing your next session too. I wear brown, but I love ❤️ bright colours too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤❤❤ next time I Gell print I’ll be doing the same thing for sure.
Thank you very much Jane, this has to be my favourite technique, I just love the weathered look it gives, it reminds me of old, peeling walls in Venice! 😊💗
Thanks Ceri - I think this technique has got to be my favourite, I love the grungy look of the end results, they remind me of old, peeling painted walls in Venice! 💗
Really enjoyed seeing the technique with the water, definitely going to try it. Was interested to see how your paint didn't come off and you said its because your plate needs reconditioning. Mine does that sometimes so I have learnt why, so thank you for sharing that bit.
Give it a couple of overnight soaks in plain baby oil/mineral oil. Just pour on a bunch & massage it across the whole plate & leave it overnight to soak in. Repeat a few times & that should help. The paper gradually absorbs oil from the plate which is what causes it to lose condition in the first place. And Never use heat on it to speed up drying. Have a desk fan handy instead. 😊
Thank you very much Lisa, it will be fun to make some more involved videos with the gel plate after the 100 day project, where all I could record were these very short vertical videos. I am looking forward to getting my teeth into some of the techniques I learned! 💗
@@KariGibsonArt I just was recommended a video by a channel named Saacibo. She posted a video today you might want to check out. I really like the stamps she made for using on the gel plate. I hope you check it out. 💙🦋
2:43 it’s called ‘blue roll’- designed for the catering trade, because food is not generally blue. It’s an amazing muted pale blue-grey colour. I like to use it like tissue paper in combination with concentrated instant coffee for mixed media stuff. Ask at your local cafe/pub/restaurant if they’d let you have a couple of sheets to experiment with.
I love your work Kari and gel printing is something so wonderful when it works but is so hit and miss, it can be very frustrating. These are lovely. How do you keep your Gel plate so clear ? Mine look like they've been in a watery dung heap for a week!! People with clean ones seem to produce less fails. Love your splashes and your enthusiam, which, I have to see makes me keep persevering with printing. Thanks for sharing, Lovely. x
Thanks Pamela! I clean my plate from time to time and I recondition it with baby oil every couple of months or so too. Mind you, a bit of grunge on the plate can give lovely, surprising results! 😊💗
I love this technique so much! I don't think I own anything brown to be honest, I used to wear a lot of red then i went through a green phase😅 I have to say though, I've never attempted the 100 day project, im working too much to be committed, and I know I never stick to anything for long as well.
Thanks Maria, oh yes, I love green, particularly a soft green. Hmm, red is a colour I rarely wear, maybe I should try it. The 100 day project is a huge commitment. The first one I did, I was much gentler on myself, aiming to just work on 5 huge canvases every day. Some days, I just did a little mark, but I also didn't post daily, I just posted here and there, that was a lot easier. I did get a lot out of this year's project, as well as last year's tag one, it made me really push myself, but that is so hard! I am still tired today, LOL! 💗
I just received my gelli plate and have no idea what im doing. I got it because i want to make cards. I paint with watercolor and acyrlic paints so i do know how to paint. I need help. So far this video is great!
Do you clean paint off brayer during gel printing? The brayer seems to get dried bits of paint if only roll excess paint on to scrap paper. Thanks for your insight.
It depends, I have a bucket of water next to me and if I notice bits gathering on the brayer, I drop it in the bucket and pick up another brayer to carry on with. After the session, I give them a good clean. Many people let the paint build up and peel it off, but a messy texture doesn't suit me. 💗💗
Oh my goodness, doing it on UA-cam must be so hard, I have struggled to keep up posting on Instagram - well done, I have just subscribed to your channel and I will watch some of your videos later, they look great! 💗
