Absolutely! They have sooo many fantastic songs that didn't make the charts & even now radio stations only play a select few, when others deserve to be heard!!
the replies below are spot on, but I think the cost of transporting extra stage equipment on an Asian tour would've been cost prohibitive, especially at this time in the band's history
Neil isn't a half bad singer. Who knew? I give him kudos for having the balls to actually share vocals on a song with the incomparable Steve Perry. I mean who the Hell could compare to THAT voice? Beautiful song, performed to perfection by the the classic Journey line-up. It just doesn't get any better than that!
ABSOLUTELY!! They're missing & missed soooooo much more that this band had to offer!! This is 1 of my favorites! Actually this entire tour showed several songs that are absolutely fantastic & thanks to channels like this we can still enjoy their amazing talent!!!
"I think Schon's melodic sensibility on the guitar is unparalleled." SO well put. I completely agree. NS is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time.
I agree with everything you said in this comment except that Neal is one of the most underrated guitarists. I've bee a player for 35 years and in all my years of playing Neal has always been well respected. In fact I don't think I've ever met another guitarist that was any good ever say a bad thing about Neal.
Neal and Rik Emmett from Triumph are the two best guitarist I have ever seen live..and I have seen a million. Rik also sang lead on half their songs. If you have never heard Rock and Roll machine by Triumph...go listen to it studio or live...you will see what I mean. He and Neal are virtuoso in many genres, not just pure rock.
Yes, being great doesn’t always mean showing how fast you can riff, but rather having the maturity to no just showboat, and create memorable melodies. He has the skill to run the fret board like a mad man. But he doesn’t show off
One of my all time favorite Journey tunes. No big stage. No pyro. No projection screens. No frills. Just 5 of the most kick ass musicians around, simply lay'in it down. I'd hate to have to play after this band. :)
This was my favorite lineup. Remember buying this cassette back in 80 and listening in my car while driving to high school every morning. Still pull out the cd often.
This song sits atop my all-time favorites in the Journey catalog. Incredible song off or my personal favorite album Departure. Blew my mind when I listened to it on the headphones
The whole album is PERFECTION with hidden gems, such as this fabulous song, that corporate radio won’t play. So glad I grew up with this music!! THE BEST!!!
I'd have dropped the final track and add "Little Girl" and Departure would've been perfect for me, especially as the way the song ends with that harmonica
I was gobsmacked when I heard Neal's pipes'. I wouldn't make him the Journey Vocalist on a permanent basis. But his pipes' are still a treasure. That should be used more.
The era before Jonathan Cain showed up and replaced Gregg Rollie was when Journey did their best work. Yes, Escape, Frontiers and Raised on Radio were commercial successes and they all contained some iconic tunes. But, no album from Escape forward has the magical B sides of Infinity, Evolution and Departure. Those tunes are where Journey's real magic can be found.
If any band could pull it off, it no dout would be Journey. To me, they are the epitome of HARMONY. There harmony can bring fans to tears, it's so POWERFUL. Every time I hear them, they are spot on playing live. No need for studio fixed perfection. Their harmony is locked in. Just my opinion.☺
I hadn't heard this song in over 30 years, but always had it in my head. I actually convinced myself that it didn't exist lol. It was big on the radio in the 80s, but not heard it for years. Had to come to UA-cam to find it, it confirms it's an awesome song to always be in my head, when I hadn't heard it in so long.
Goddamn. Just five REALLY special dudes. Incredible talent. Perry/Schon is a combo that should be brought up just as much as Plant/Page or even Morrissey/Marr. Unstoppable forces when it comes to lead vocals and lead guitar.
I went to Vineland with a friend to see a Journey cover band recently and they did this song that I had no f'kn clue about... I thought I knew all the songs on Departure...Now I literally can't stop playing it...Those harmonies are incredible...Reminds me of early Styx when Tommy first arrived...MY NEW FAVORITE JOURNEY SONG...😊❤
"...Schon's melodic sensibility on the guitar is unparalleled." Right on! Steve Perry's voice is unparalleled as well but Neal Schon is the most underrated guitar god of all time. His solos still send shivers down my spine after 30 years of being a Journey fan. If you need proof of how awesome Journey was without SP, listen to the little-known albums recorded by Journey before SP even joined the band. The prog-rock jams that Gregg Rolie and a then-20-yr-old Schon created together were AMAZING.
You got that right Schon and Rik Emmett from Triumph are the two best guitarist I have ever seen live! Both are virtuoso in many genres of music. Rik also had a great singing voice.
This one, along with Precious Time are the prime cuts on Departure...ass-kicking live performance. Reminds you that today live sound is too good for it's own good. Back in the day, you relied on your own ability to give the fans a show. You couldn't exactly replicate your record (which defeats the purpose of playing live), so you made it work on the stage. Not so today, everything is prefab. Long live rock!!!
Departure is a totally underrated album. Some of the production on it was in my opinion substandard. But the songs were really good. I like Johnathon Cain but when the band lost Greg Rollie that was a big loss. Good vocalist and the organ sound was really killer. Good clip!
This is a definite rock and SOUL song that bass gives it that flavor and rhythm. It definitely has a a lot of the alternative rock element in it too. Beautiful song...so beautiful in fact that it is good that they were paying attention and listening instead of being distracted with a lot of screaming and yelling.
A-mazing. What band can recreate such an amazing song that perfectly without any backing tracks, tech-help... what musicians, they delivered, everyone in the pocket, Steve not losing one note, all of them...! One of my all time favs, I've always felt the song has a very Beatles like feel to it. .::G
I just found this song again the other day, man this was the journey I remember in concert, 1980 ky...Steve singing with Gregg and this song with Neal, fantastic i love all journey with Steve Perry, back then they were like a well oiled machine, love this.....
I miss this version of Journey so much. They may have sold more records with Jonathan Cain but this will always be the best version of the band musically. I spent a lot of hours listening to these guys with headphones on studying the vocals and guitar when I was a kid.
Watching this video takes me back to my high school years.....Watching this video makes me wonder how the hell the audience is so well behaved, how could that be? Here in America we would be all over the damn place!
Neals a great rhythm player. Some of the things he does are so creative and cool. Sometimes you just have to wonder where he comes up with such great parts. On this song, after the walk down, he strums a G chord. That's brilliant
1977 was when I discovered Journey out in the Bay Area of California for the first time and their "NEXT" album is great! This was before Steve Perry came onboard & Neal Schon was the big dog along with Ross Valory on bass!
It was so awesome to be able to go to a concert that didn't involve some jackass with 10,000 soundboards and it was all dependant on the musicians actual talent.

I would love that as well-I love the way Steve sings these songs. His vocals were off the charts! They were magical together! Wish I could have seen this concert in person!
I love this song-its from my favourite cd of Journey.Reminds me of the band "Yes" at the beginning.I think Steve Perry's vocals around this time are amazing! No one will ever sing as fine as he does ,i'm sure of it! Oh,and this video does make me want to rip his shirt off completely..........with my teeth!
I remember how much this song moved me back then, and today the memory of that feeling is still vivid interesting how polite and attentive the Japanese audience is
Oh yeah, that is Neil's song, and look at the feeling he puts into it! These bring back memories for me, of being out in Washington state, having a date with a beyond hot girl, in my 1970 Camaro, and listening to Departure, I remember it like yesterday, and always will!🎸😎🖤😎🎸
Popping in: this is one of the best songs of all time, my favorite Journey song. This vocal combination and musicianship sold me on Journey. Journey changed and surprised over time , Steve Perry becoming the voice, but this was 1 man's 1st love.
I think this is the most UNDER-RATED song they ever did!! I LOVE this so much!!
Agreed Lu!!
I forgot about this song one of my favorite sounds for sure !
Absolutely! They have sooo many fantastic songs that didn't make the charts & even now radio stations only play a select few, when others deserve to be heard!!
Yes!! Love this song.. But I love all journeys music even after all there years 43 years been listening. Even love Steve's solo albums!
Amen to dat!! Love it soo much!!
These guys were so absolutely incredible and this is a perfect example. Jeez Neil and Gregg sound so good together and then add Steve Perry, just wow.
No spectacular lights, special effects, or dancers, neither auto-tune. Only a handful of great musicians. This is invaluable.
You got that right. True artists. No overdubs, no reworking in the studio. Just amazing talent.
You are exactly 100% right! Amazing!!
@ShariSez1 wow, you're so lucky. I dream that one day i'll see them, with Steve Perry in front.
But, but... corporate rock!
Critics back then were as insufferable as they are today.
the replies below are spot on, but I think the cost of transporting extra stage equipment on an Asian tour would've been cost prohibitive, especially at this time in the band's history
Neil isn't a half bad singer. Who knew? I give him kudos for having the balls to actually share vocals on a song with the incomparable Steve Perry. I mean who the Hell could compare to THAT voice? Check out his solo albums With Jan Hammer
Schon. Great all around musician. Great guy
He sang Karma and I would find you off Next.
listen to the first three albums journey put out. its amazing
You are not alone on that one.
This is one of my favorite Journey deep tracks! So glad I grew up during this great era in music history!
Got that right!
Too many people don't hear the 'other stuff' Journey did. There was SO much more!
ABSOLUTELY!! They're missing & missed soooooo much more that this band had to offer!! This is 1 of my favorites! Actually this entire tour showed several songs that are absolutely fantastic & thanks to channels like this we can still enjoy their amazing talent!!!
Most Americans like what they’re told to like. narrow minded sheep

I agree 👍
The best Song of Journey. For me anyway.
One of my all time favorite Journey tunes. No big stage. No pyro. No projection screens. No frills. Just 5 of the most kick ass musicians around, simply lay'in it down. I'd hate to have to play after this band. :)
@Yo, Bro Man! your my favorite human, agree my #1 from Journey. I loved Steve Perry, but early collaborations were unbelievable.
This was my favorite lineup.
Remember buying this cassette back in 80 and listening in my car while driving to high school every morning.
Still pull out the cd often.
I remember seeing Steve and Neal on PBS talking about this song. It stayed with me, never has left. Journey is a lot deeper than Don't Stop Believing.
Absolutely one of my favorite songs of all time. It's a masterpiece.
This song sits atop my all-time favorites in the Journey catalog. Incredible song off or my personal favorite album Departure. Blew my mind when I listened to it on the headphones

@@forceinfinity Nope this album is perfect as is. No need to change anything. It is an under-rated album and in my own opinion it’s their best.
It was nice to see Neal Schon sing on this one.
I was gobsmacked when I heard Neal's pipes'. I wouldn't make him the Journey Vocalist on a permanent basis. But his pipes' are still a treasure. That should be used more.
I’ve never heard this song. I loved it!

Neal's got a pretty damn good voice!
This was the perfect form of Journey. Everyone was the band.
Pretty brave of them to do this live, those harmonies are tricky!
Joseph Gottlieb Effortless...
Not for Steve Perry! He is amazing!
Greg and Ross do their parts on backing vocals and that 60-ish organ sound in sync with Neil is magical
Neal has a good voice.....never heard this before!!! Steve is AWESOME as always!!!
Donna Blanchard - Exactly what I was thinking. Neal surprised me here.
I have never heard this song before, but its beautiful. I keep listen to it and I keep hearing things that I haven't heard from Journey.
Rodentwitch so many hidden gems within Evolution, Infinity, Departure, and check out Liberty from Frontiers album.
I hadn't heard this song in over 30 years, but always had it in my head. I actually convinced myself that it didn't exist lol. It was big on the radio in the 80s, but not heard it for years. Neal has a pretty darn good voice, not nearly as effortless as Steve though, but I must admit I'm impressed! Way to put yourself out there, Neal.
Absolutely
He had a pretty good hit "Lies, No More Lies" with Jan Hammer in the Schon & Hammer band.
Early on (before Steve joined) Neal sang a lot.
The first time I heard the song I tought it was Rollie's voice 😂
Still, Schon did a great job 👍
Listen to 'Softly' from his solo album Late Nite
I love this song. It made me feel like they were talking to the fans, that it wasn't just a one-way street that we adored them and it was beautiful
I saw them on this tour playing these songs. They were so good. I liked them best when Greg Rolie was in the band.
Their best lineup.
my respect dude
Me too - Gregg brought so much heart and talent to the group.
Andrew Marinkovich I know. However Cain and sp wrote some incredible songs
me too, 6 times!!!!
I really love Neal and Steve singing this song to together.
Love this song too! Steve can sing any song and get the same reaction. That's why he's "THE G.O.A.T. singer. Love, love, love "THE VOICE"!💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
One of my very favorites of Journey!!!
One of the awesome songs you don't hear on the Radio. Plus, Neal is the singer.
1980 i was 13 years old 🎸🤘 when music ruled 💯
What a voice...the best of his generation, looking back!
All Asian people love Journey. And this is among one of the best Journey songs ever. It takes me to a different universe.
He is indeed the backbone of JOURNEY
Goddamn. Just five REALLY special dudes. Incredible talent. Perry/Schon is a combo that should be brought up just as much as Plant/Page or even Morrissey/Marr. Unstoppable forces when it comes to lead vocals and lead guitar.
Yeap, when JOURNEY was JOURNEY..😊🤗😎😎😎
Glad to see someone else who can similtaneously love Journey and The Smiths.
I do too!
Absolutely ❤
Those harmonies sound great!
This song and Zig Zigler's book See You at the Top was motivation for me when I was planning my motocross career in first part of the 80s.
I went to Vineland with a friend to see a Journey cover band recently and they did this song that I had no f'kn clue about...

I love the 1977 Journey album, "NEXT"!
a lot of people didnt know that Neal sang, which is upsetting cause his other music projects are godly
The bass line is kicking and Steve is kicking with just the right amount of soul.
Transcendant. Never again... I really miss the 70-80's. Radio and request lines made so many songs and groups famous. Now we have Spotify...

Amazing performance.
This song is a hidden gem.
Neal singing awesome . Back when journey was journey three singers . The best

Excellent best journey era and when journey was journey unlike now in 2024 and when they journey had Gregg rolie
He's no Steve Perry....but Hey...Neal Schon has a decent voice.
I find myslef saying this on every live Journey video I come across ...
Stunning.
This is a definite rock and SOUL song that bass gives it that flavor and rhythm. It definitely has a a lot of the alternative rock element in it too. Pure Awesomeness
This is a beautiful song! Steve And Neal’s voices sound truly ethereal (unworldly, celestial, heavenly).
Sounds awesome!! Them keyboards!! Just wow all around! I think they can do anything live! 🎶🎸🎵🎸🎶❤️

Neal also shared vocals on chain reaction from the frontiers album
Never knew Neal sang this one. Awesome!
This is the quintessential Journey show for me. What a setlist.
This is perhaps the best piece of music Journey has ever written.
And that's saying something in my book.
