    After I gave up my dream of becoming deejay and music producer I awoke one morning and decided to become a professional photographer. I ordered the Nikon7200 pro kit on Amazon. I opened it up and looked through all the crap it came with and immediately had a migraine. I put it in my closet and never bothered with it again until I ran across Tonys tutorials. They are amazing I mean AMAZING!! Ive taken like 30 pics and am happy!

    At $1,199, the Nikon D7200 is a winner. It has a rugged magnesium alloy body and all of the advanced video and extreme low light auto focus (AF) features of Nikon's D750 and D810 professional cameras. And the image quality is stunning. It will take sharper pictures than the competing Canon camera because its AA Filter is removed. The initial sample videos and stills are incredible.

    Doing a lot of research on both these cameras 3 years later as I am looking at used models. I like your Channel a lot, but your bias tends to lean towards Canon. All respected reviews and comparisons have the D7200 as a better camera than the 7d m2. This has now been confirmed by those who have owned both. The D7200 produces better images in wider conditions. That's is the bottom line for a sports / wildlife camera.

    At first I was sooooo disappointed that I had just purchased a D7100 and now the D7200 is out. But now, I'm not disappointment at all. With the VERY minor changes they made I know I'm not missing out on anything AMAZING. Though, I do like the bigger buffer even though it's a futile attempted at nipping at the heals of Canon's 7D MkII. Come on Nikon! You're better than this. You have to make Canon Fan Boys want to convert... but now their just chuckling under their breath. Oh and can we get a full Mag body? That's the only thing I wish my D7100 had.

    • @thestig007
      @thestig007 9 років тому +2

      Nikon has much better low light performance than most of Canons range. The D7100 is a great body. Has some very good low light performance. It's definitely not the best camera for sports mode, but in jpeg with crop mode enabled, it's very quick.

    • @tomrabel3526
      @tomrabel3526 9 років тому +1

      ***** I agree. My D7100 has some pretty good low light performance however, I was just a little let down with the D7200. The minor changes are great but it still lags behind the 7D MkII. I guess I just expected Nikon give Canon a run for their money in the action shooting range.

    • @thestig007
      @thestig007 9 років тому +1

      Tom Rabel It's crazy how many new bodies Nikon is coming out with lately. I can hardly keep up with it all! I'm not sure how they can afford to keep designing new models all the time. I'm not complaining though, it's good for the consumer.

    • @tomrabel3526
      @tomrabel3526 9 років тому +1

      ***** I know! I thought the release of the d750 was a little unnecessary. I feel the D810 is a perfect bridge from d610 to d4. Plus they had to recall all their d750s due to some flaring on the sensor. Like I said, they need to slow down and put more time and thought into their future releases. I think Nikon has a lead in image clarity with their sensors but they need something to rock the boat. I think a bad ass mirror-less system would turn some heads. A more pro oriented setup than the Sony A7.

    • @thestig007
      @thestig007 9 років тому +1

      Tom Rabel Well I'd count myself as an enthusiast, and I have to say I'm pretty pleased with Nikons selection. I have the D7100 and have honestly just been blown away with how good it is. I could always move up to entry level full frame if I really wanted to, but I'll stay with the cheaper DX system for now. I don't really feel like I'm limited by my camera right now. If anything, I need better glass.

    You have mentioned at times that Color Sensitivity is something you just don't hear about. Well, whenever I photograph our models in-studio while painting their portrait (photos with Canon 6D and 70-200 f4 IS, Canon 70D and 70-200 f4 IS, Sony a6000 with 50mm f1.8 OSS and Olympus OMD EM5 with 75mm f1.8) I notice the color depth while doing post processing to be greater with my 6D over Sonya6000 over Canon 70D over Olympus OMD EM5. Not at all sure if my setting are doing this but the depth of color is very clear to see (Canon 6D images most useable for backup portrait photos to my artwork-and to use as images to do final paintings from). Just a thought because I often observe this.

    I've been a Nikon user since the early days of the F3HP and I really didn't know where the industry was going when digital first came out. I bought my first digital Nikon, a D300S about 5 years ago. I wanted to upgrade from 12MP to at least a 24MP camera for the last little while and bought a 7200 yesterday. I haven't even taken it out of the box yet. I hope I made a good choice!?

    I'd like to see you compare this (and the D5500) with the new Pentax K-S2. One reason people often give for not reviewing or discussing Pentax is that they have relatively low market share, but I think this may be due in part to the fact that Pentax cameras are often overlooked by reviewers.

    First of all great video Toni! (as always;))
    Thnx for doing a great work!
    Here are my 3 best features of the new D7200
    1. Bigger buffer
    2. 51 points down til -3 EV (i assume that is the same as the D750 has)
    3. And maybe the most important that many people forget is the new sensor from Sony (D7100 had one from Toshiba)
    Maybe it is not revolutionary upgrade but for my definitely evolutionary because it fixes many "problems" that D7100 had...
    However the biggest down side of the D7100 is the video capability... :/ :/ :/
    ( As you already mentioned in the video )

I was looking in to replacing it and didnt know what to get, D610 or D500 (which i dont have the budget for) but since i have DX lens , your review on D7200 made up my mind about it and now price dropped way down to $930 Au dollars...i can afford to get this camera, Thanks so much.

    Thanks for clearing up the 1080p 60fps issue. Imo, it's not a mega big issue though because 60 fps isn't "that important" anyway imo. Anything in range of 23-25 is important to be real deal. Not too bad, considering how most of canon's don't have 1080p 60fps yet?
    Apparently D7100 has been reported to have some banding issues, so hopefully the newer camera will address these.
    Focusing motor is a big separating point between the D7200 and the D5500 (along with the ability to fine tune your lenses in-camera by yourself, instead of taking it to service and waiting 2 weeks). Apparently the Nikon's 50 1.8D is superior in comparison to Nikon 50 1.4 or 1.8, because it has significantly less distortion going on (software correction of distortion will not look the same as picture taken with a lens with "no distortion", especially if you have people's faces/heads at the edges of the corner .. like in a group shot or something). And that lens wouldn't AF on D3xxx or D5xxx bodies.
    Regarding 4k, I've found it to be a big thing. A LX100 4k is roughly better than 1080 video shot with a D810 + Sigma 50 Art. It's that big deal difference.

    Great run down of the D7200. Do you think it is a genuine upgrade? When you compare the differences between the D7000-D7100, the D700-D750 and the D800-D810, this is lacking. Should it have been the D7100wifi?

    • @ravinschannel
      @ravinschannel 5 років тому

      Maybe the reply is too late,... 35mm will be good for street & get a Tokina 11-16 for landscapes (wide angle). If you're happy with 50mm, no need to buy a 35mm. 50mm will be equivalent to 75mm as the body is APSC and 35mm will be around 52mm. If you're not interested in wide angle lenses, there is a Sigma 17-50 (effectively 25.5 to 75mm) f/2.8, it is much better than the 18-55 nikon kit lens. If you're getting the Sigma, skip the 35mm.

    Longtime fan. Love the vids. Must say, watching again few years later giggling at your nonstop bashing the D7200 vs 7D, which was 50% more $$$. Should compare to D750 maybe... Seriously, I guess in the moment you were fantasizing about a Nikon up a bracket for sports photog but this was just perhaps the perfect Nikon for me, the enthusiast. All around, works with everything, fails at nothing. This would have been so much more fun without the Canon comments. Just a big mismatch.

    Tony, as I would say on a Sunday morning, well done on this review...Because of your thoroughness and facts based productions, your videos exceed the casual tubers, who's main goal is to be the first to do a video on new camera gear. (You are going make me unsubscribe to the rest...) But back to D7200, as Nikon user (D7100), I would say the new release is a grand camera where image quality is concerned. This is purely from a still and casual event stand-point, not sports. You nailed the point respective to price (a used D7100 @700.00). If resources is not the concern, then I would say the D7200 is the best pro-entry crop for image quality, when video and sports is not the main consideration. For me, the logical upgrade is the D810 coming from a crop D7100...

    Tony have you ever looked at a Pentax K3? I would be curious as to your take on it. 8fps with a generous RAW buffer, weather sealed body that looks like you could pound nails with, no AA filter, internal stabilization and from what I understand the same or similar sensor that is in the D7100. The limited primes look really sweet too. That camera is going gripped for $800.

    I have a Nikon D7100 and I wouldnt be in no rush for the upgrade. If I were going to upgrade, it would be to Full Frame and I think most people who has the 7100 would agree. I still cant understand why Nikon dropped the shutter speed on the D750 to 1/4000 and yet in all the new camera's since that, they use 1/8000?

    • @tomrabel3526
      @tomrabel3526 9 років тому +1

      I agree. As much as I love Nikon it feels like they're just scrambling to put something out in order to keep up with competitors. Nothing they have put out in recent years has been ground breaking. Just patchy little tweaks to put some separation between the models. They need a hail marry pass, stop rushing to put out new "Fix" models that are mildly improved and give us a beast, we're patient enough to wait so take your time and think the next one through Nikon, Canon is already several steps ahead.

    • @parnordqvist3895
      @parnordqvist3895 7 років тому

      If D750 had 1/8000 it would probably be a too strong competitor to the professional cameras, and much cheaper. In that case many would buy D750 instead of for example D810 or the latest D850. But I agree that it is strange that D700 is professional but not D750. I think this is a strategical move from Nikon.

    • @TheOneBiteCannibal
      @TheOneBiteCannibal 6 років тому

      You can sort of "cheat" the 1/4000 shutter on the D750 by dropping the ISO to LO-1, which is ISO 50, which gives the same exposure as 1/8000 at ISO 100. Also, at ISO 50, I find there is even less noise in mid-tones, although only slightly, than ISO 100. I use ISO 50 (LO-1) frequently in bright sunlight and seldom run out of shutter speed (1/4000) with 2.8 lenses.

    I really wanted to be excited about the D7200. I am shooting a 5200 right now and am starting to look for an upgrade. I could go full frame, but I don't shoot enough low light to justify it and most of my shots go on the internet anyway. I would like to see the 7200 compared to a M43 body. With the crop to get 60p, and the GH4 going beyond that, I think it might be interesting to see how they handle 60p and the real difference pushing the GH4 to its max.

      Shining Leaf I’m not a professional but out of all the answers I’ve received on amazon and in person you shouldn’t use a kit lens because they don’t provide the best quality photo so it could just be the lens itself causing that go to your photography store nearby you and talk to them about lenses if your not on a budget I suggest the Nikon f/2.8g 50mm for portraits and everyday use but if you want to shoot macro or wildlife the f/2.8g 70-200mm you will notice these lenses cost a lot more but your paying for the quality in which they are made so the outside material and inside so the glass and technology is the best you can get for the best image quality but before you buy it see if you can rent a lens I’m not sure if you can do that but if you can do that first to see if it improves your shots

    you'd be surprised the D5500 is not that hard to access menu settings because almost everything you need to change can be accessed directly on the back of the camera on screen. It will not allow you to change things without removing the camera from your eye to look at that screen. The D7200 can be configured to allow all changes to be made while shooting without taking down your eye from the viewfinder.

    The specs sound just short of a Pentax K-3. Should be a nice upgrade for lower end Nikon owners and a smaller up grade from the 7100. Kind of pricey though at that suggested price, but probably will drop after release.

I'm stuck between Nikon D5600 and D7200. Which one should I go for? is the video capability on the d7200 not that much of a jump from the D5600? I know it's better for photography, atleast. Overall, for someone who wants the best of video and photo out of those 2, which one would you pick? I'm planning to purchase soon so hope you see it before then!

Currently using a a6000 but been disappointed a bit. I'm pondering on a 1200$ budget a used D700 full frame or a new D7200. Well I'm not Tony BUT, I would honestly recommend the Nikon d7200, there have been many recalls on the d700 and it's quite dated at this point, personally as a d7200 owner, it is an amazing camera, and in my opinion it's the all around best crop sensor camera, the sharpness is brilliant and you can always put some FX lenses on it (which I would recommend) and the crop sensor isn't that bad, it really isn't, everyone says "oh don't get the crop sensor! Don't do it!" But it's FINE. And in conclusion, it all comes down to experience and skill, I shot may years on a T5 rebel and still produced pictures like some professionals with the D3 or the D4. (One last point, if you go with the cheaper d7200 you can spend more on good glass, because THAT is what truly matters) hope this helped!

    As an idea of why Nikon would lower technical abilities, think of their lineup of cameras and lenses. As a business, if cameras are too close to each other in features, a few small differences would gear a person to the cheaper option. Since they had a camera that can do 10 frames a second in the higher end model, the technology was available to them, but they want people to choose the more expensive option if that is a sticking point. If you have invested in Nikon lenses, you are more willing to buy another Nikon as you might have to change a whole set of lenses with canon or buy an adapter that degrades the image a little. Also, Nikon being a Japanese company they tend to make small improvements rather than make massive changes with a lot of bugs to work out.

    I still feel that there's an empty spot at the top of Nikon's DX lineup. When the D7000 came up, it was something like an attempt to replace both the D90 and the D300s and I while it is a step up from the D90, it is still a step down from the D300s. So if a D400 (or a D9300 as some "rumours" suggest) did exist today, it could have been comparable to the 7D II just as the D300 is comparable to the 7D.

It seems clear the Canon 400mm f5.6 and 100-400 IS II give better image quality than the Tamron 150-600 VC but do the Nikon Cameras (e.g. D7100/7200 or D750) make up for the difference between the Canon lenses on Canon and the Tamron on Canon (in particular with he D750 since the Tamron 150-600 VC was primarily designed for FF).

    Thanks for the review Tony, I'm thinking of moving from Pentax due to their 150-450 about to come out being a bit over $3000 here in Australia. It was the only lens that would appeal to me because I own a 150-500 and and I hate shooting at f8 and the autofocus is terrible. For the same price of that lens I can move and get a lens of similar or better quality. For birds would you recommend the 7d mkii with 400mm f5.6 prime and extension tube for the close small birds (the pardalotes where I live let you within 2 metres of them sometimes when nesting) or the Nikon d7100/7200 300mm f4 with 1.4 tc. Both are meant to have excellent autofocus but I'm just not sure about canons noise performance and shadow detail compared to the Nikon.

I'll also be taking the camera on vacations , trips and shooting family and friends. Video is not as important to me since I have a GoPro for that, but I would certainly like to be able to shoot with these cameras as well. I can't decide between the d7200, 7d mark ii, and sony a7 ii. Keep up the reviews I really enjoy watching them!

      +Gally Zhou This can help you: ua-cam.com/video/B9tRpvCUKHA/v-deo.html
      The 7D Mark II is much faster, which makes it better for wildlife. But the D7200 is going to be slightly better for landscapes and night photography. The a7 II will NOT work for wildlife, but it's the best for the other types of photography.
      You might also consider going full-frame DSLR. A Canon 6D or Nikon D610 will offer MUCH better image quality for everything except wildlife, and they're about the same price. If wildlife is a big part of what you're shooting, you'll be happiest with the 7D Mark II.
      We have reviews for all those cameras on our channel. Enjoy!

    Tony, You are misunderstanding the usefulness of NFC. I don't know abut this camera, but on sony cameras like a77, when you look at a picture that you already taken and move the NFC capable phone to the NFC spot on the camera, they automatically connect and the camera sends the photo to the phone, no confirmation is needed. This makes it really easy to find a picture and send it to the phone, then just share. It's really fast. I can't imagine it to be better right now.

Well, if we ever get to the top of the Pentax loaner list, we'll do a review!

    It kind of sucks that the D7200 got a higher buffer than the D750 and 1/8000s while the D750 was their camera of the year. Plus it has no AA-filter. I mean... man... I'd love the D7200 especially for wildlife (which is what I mostly do). If it was not for full frame I'd recommend the D7200 over the D750. My D7100 has "My Menu" just like my D750. I love my D7100, but I find I prefer the D750 over the D7100 for everything but wildlife (because of the crop factor). The D750's Image quality is excellent, and low light performance is amazing, as it can focus in light so dim I can't really see what it focused on, and it's ability to automatically find and focus on the subject's nearest eye is extremely useful.
