    Why can't everybody reviewing cameras be as accurate, unbiased, clear, objective , pleasant and thorough like Steve? Mr. Steve Perry YOU NAILED IT ONCE AGAIN. A big fat thank you for your E-Books BTW, cannot recommend them highly enough. You sir are priceless. Well done, standing by for more and hope you go ahead with the auto fine tuning video. Glad that there are still serious people like Steve in UA-cam providing solid info to people. Great job Steve and thanks again.

      Thanks - that AF Fine tune video is VERY likely the next one. I get taken to task sometimes for too much Nikon stuff, but I really think the video would help a LOT of people. :)

      Because most don't actually use the camera, or that is all they actually use. This guy earns his followers. These reviews probably actually sell many more cameras than the other guys who all just read specs. He makes you feel comfortable buying the best, second-best, and even the not-worst alternatives. I love it.

    Thanks for your rational & informative review. I'm an amateur with a new D7500 (upgraded from an old D80) and have watched many reviews in order to pick up some tips about using it effectively. Most vids are useless rants that don't match the good experience I've had with the 7500. Your video actually helped me understand this new camera a little better instead of just denigrating it. Thank-You!!

    In a web saturated with low-effort commentary, this densely informative, useful, unbiased review based on tons of experience is such a rare treat. I expect to be getting his ebooks on Nikon autofocus and on wildlife shooting. Autofocus has been a major factor in much of my photography, so learning more on how to make it work and to avoid pitfalls is very attractive.

    Well thank you Steve. It's about time some of these experts lowered themselves to really take out the d7500 and test out the improvements and comparisons of this camera; instead of sitting in their comfortable studios and proclaiming they knew all about this camera's potential without deigning to put their hands on it. I'm subscribing to you and will purchase your how to books. You're awesome! You finally answered my questions about the d7500/ d500/ and d7200 comparisons. Thumbs up brother!

    I've watched every single review on the D7500, and yours is by far the most comprehensive and objective, AND from actual extensive use. Thank you Steve!
    I'm one of the few who does not hate the D7500, and in fact picked one a week ago. I was coming from a D7000 and so far this D7500 beats the pants off the D7000 in every single way. The few features missing on it from the previous 7xxx series cams were not things I used much anyway, or at all.
    In my experience one of the best improvements on the D7500 is the grip. The grip depth is mentioned in most reviews but only as a mildly potential plus. The grip on my D7000 was the only thing I hated about it, even worse than my previous D90. The D7500 grip allows me a firm and secure grasp of the camera.
    I also frequently need to shoot at high ISO's and again the D7500 is so much better at all aspects of image rendition in this regard than the D7000. All in all this D7500 is a much more enjoyable shooting experience than anything I've used before, both in handling and image quality, and I've been an enthusiast photographer for over 40 years.

      Thanks for the kind words :) The D7500 is a grossly underrated camera, it's far better than the internet gives it credit for.

    • @marknotmike
      @marknotmike 6 років тому +1

      This is the exact upgrade I've been looking at - My D7000 is dated now and I had one of the issues with grease splatter on the sensor, needing frequent wet cleaning, which is annoying. I was originally going to reject the D7500 for the loss of the extra SD slot, but a lot of the other features are intriguing and I've been going back and forth between the D7200 and D7500. Did you use/consider the D7200 at all? Also - I assume that the batteries are not interchangeable between the D7000 and D7500, right, so using the D7000 as a backup means packing extra batteries and charger.

    • @patricksmith2553
      @patricksmith2553 4 роки тому +2

      Yes me too I have one and I like it very much, but not as much as my D500. I only bought the D7500 as I got a really amazing deal for a like new low mileage D7500 for $500. A used D500 was twice as much in similar condition. The whole reason I even buy or use DX now is to replace my 1.4x and 1.7x teleconverter's and honestly for $500+ the new 1.4x teleconverter is the same price as the D7500 used. I'd obviously much rather have an entire capable camera than a TC and like Steve say's DX image quality beats using a teleconverter on full frame every time. I mainly use a D4s and honestly I find the D7500 to be as good or even ever so slightly better to autofocus, speed wise it's just as fast, but it covers a larger area so that's better! Just don't make the mistake I made and try the D7500 in JPEG, it's pretty bad dynamic range and way worse than even 12 bit Compressed RAW. The D4s seems to do much better in JPEG mode than the D7500, but of course that's a full frame amazing sensor.

    I've owned the D7500 for a few months now, and it's fantastic. It was between this and the D500 and I went with the 7500 because my glass is lacking and I was able to save $1000 on the body to spend on glass. I don't miss the vertical grip and second SD slot and my legacy glass works fine shooting in full Manual. This isn't a pro camera so now backup SD is really needed.

      Woody Green. I'm in the stage choosing between D500 and D7500. And I'm really surprised for photographers who have high pro model cameras and still coveting lower models in exchange! I thought I was the compulsive camera buyer!

    • @woodygreen6826
      @woodygreen6826 6 років тому +3

      Not coveting at all. The D500 is a significantly better camera. I'm just saying that the D7500 is a big step up from the D7200. No way would I trade my D500 for a D7500, or for ANY camera, for that matter. :)

    Great review! I've had this camera for a few months now and really like it. I do miss the depth-of-field preview button (my biggest gripe) but love the 4K video and the extra speed over my D7100 for action shots. I've already used the tilt screen a number of times and wonder how I got along without it. The missing second card slot is a non-issue to me but with SnapBridge you may now send any or all of your shots to your phone's card manually or automatically via Bluetooth or WiFi. You may also control your camera remotely with your phone with SnapBridge. Thanks!

    Thanks Steve for the informational output of this Nikon D7500. I took it to my Photography Class and the folks in the class said to me that the camera felt like a toy; that's like nothing that Nikon can build? I was quite pissed off at them but I am continuing to use the camera today and have no quarrels about the photo quality! These folks are 4/3rd's Olympus minded individuals and are not a fanboy of Nikon like I am. Thank You for making me a happy camper.

    • @backcountrygallery
      @backcountrygallery  3 роки тому +4

      In my experience, people who like to call cameras "toys" and such are often way too worried about gear when they should be working on their technique. I've yet to see an top photographer who was more worried about if his gear felt like a toy then if he was getting the shot. :) So, keep doing what you're doing and ignore them :)

      The sad thing is, in nearly 100% of the cases, the people bashing the camera have never used it!

    I'm a photo-journalist (on a budget) based in the North of England. I have been using largely prime lenses with a D7000 with decent and sometimes very pleasing results. I have been looking for an upgrade to fix pretty much the only issues getting in my way - a small buffer, not so great ISO performance and mixed results with autofocus. It's otherwise a nice but dated camera. After looking at the specs, there was only really one choice for me between the D7200 and D7500. That's the D7500. The better weather sealing is a big plus in the North of England. And so is the performance, speed, low light capability and weight. A second card slot would have been nice but I've only ever used mine for overflow. Maybe I should have employed it for important jobs but I've been doing this job for 15 years and I've never had a card failure but I have had camera failures. It came to the simple question: which of these two fantastic cameras over a year's use would stand more chance of returning better photos for me. The answer was the D7500. It will be great for no-fuss portraits (with a pop-up flash in commander mode for off-camera flash, one thing the d500 doesn't have), general shots, events and sports, not to mention a superb camera for taking family shots of our two under-7s in action. The only thing I was worried about was dropping the alloy in the build but after a bit of research my mind (if not my heart) was put at rest. I am also looking forward to using it for my personal hobby of taking landscape photos in the northern dales of England.... Oh did I mention the draw of better weather sealing. Thanks for an old fashioned review based on skills, experience and time.

      And a small update... This week I got caught in a torrential downpour. The camera was in my waterproof backpack, nice and safe. Or so I thought! Imagine my dismay to find that the zip had come loose and the camera had been completely exposed at the top of the bag to a proper summer downpour. This isn't something I'll be repeating but the D7500 is absolutely fine. The weather sealing is excellent. Phew...

      IMHO $20 rain hood would protect better your $200 cheaper d7200 than d7500's WS :-) in fact it would actually protect it, d7500 WS is still defined as a mere resistance to condensation at 80% humidity, so, under a slightest rain your warranty may be zeroed by nikon if they start to dig into how you killed it...

    After reading the other reviews scattered online I knew I would finally get an unbiased real world assessment when you got ahold of this camera. Totally understand the benefits of the D500 but am looking for a take along water resistant camera for backcountry flyfishing and even the smallest size advantage is worth some compromise . Just rented a Pentax K3II and while a fine camera ( dual card slot, nice interface, in body stabilization, cost ) , Nikon's AF seems to be quite more capable along with the extras you detailed so well. Can't thank you enough Steve .

    thank you very much for this video, i was diving into thousands of videos looking for exactly this info. I am a D7000 user since many many years now, and I'm planning to update the body. I know now that this update is quite impressive so thanks for this!!!! D500 could be another option but again, when I saw the size difference it was quite enough to decide d7500 is my option.

    best review of the D7500 I've seen so far, nice coverage of ALL the relevant features, NO b/s and NO filler. Kinda making me think I should still go with a D7500 rather than invest yet in the Z system

      I bought a D7500 in 2020 and I'm very happy with it. However, I had plenty of DX F-mount glass that I was happy with. If I were to dive into the market now having NOT bought the D7500 and maybe not having all that DX f-mount glass, I'd probably splurge for the Z6II, which may be more capable than the D7500 now that its AF system has been upgraded via the latest firmware. Good luck with your purchases!
