    Awesome video. I like that you included the screenshots of the automations. My wife will love the freezer one as people keep switching off the meat freezer in the garage.

      Glad it was helpful, the wife acceptance factor is always key! I appreciate the feedback as it helps me to better serve you.

    am I the only one seeing flickering at 16:25 ?

      There apparently was some type of processing error with the end of the video. I’m not sure how that happened as it was fine during editing. I’ll have to view the videos privately on UA-cam before I allow them to go public.

    If you live in an area where the general humidity has a wide range, rather than setting the exhaust fan to operate at a specific threshold, do a compare with another humidity sensor in your living room or elsewhere. A better more dynamic threshold.

      That’s a great suggestion, thanks for sharing! I was able to monitor the humidity the sensors experience and set thresholds that work well for us. I’ll have to consider your suggestion moving forward.

    I really liked the fridge temperature sensing to indicate an open door or power failure. Unique idea ive not seen or thought of. The water shutoff is still one of my favorites.

      Thanks for watching! The water shutoff is one of my favorites as well. The temps for refrigerator and freezer are really nice for us as we entertain and have kids at our house frequently so it’s nice to be made aware when folks fail to close the door.

      @@JoshsSmartHome curious what sensors you used for the fridge and freezer specifically. Does the cold temps of the freezer affect the functionality of whatever one you’re using?

      I’m actually using some old Iris motion sensors that I bought from Lowe’s when they discontinued that line. I haven’t noticed any shortened lifespan from them, so I’d say the batteries are lasting at least a year or so even in the chest freezer that stays below 0 F. I just buy Amazon branded batteries, so nothing special that I’m using there.

      @@JoshsSmartHome oh nice! Well sounds like I’ll best testing with some other sensors then, but thanks for the insight. Definitely going to do this one in my home. Coming home to find a fridge open all day while at work is not fun. Having that happen once is one time too many lol

    I notice you are using Google and Amazon. I do too. You mentioned that you have automations that run on conditions. Neither Google nor Alexa apps have the ability to add conditions. I read somewhere that Home Assistant could do it. So, I got a PI5, set it up with a zigbee and z-wave router and installed Home Assistant. I can't figure out how to add my devices that were not automatically detected. Please do a video on adding devices. I struggle with figuring out what code I have to install and where to get it. Looking forward to more from you.

      Thank you for watching and the positive feedback. I do use Home Assistant as the brains of our smart home. I have a video of when we initially set it up when we moved from SmartThings to Home Assistant, and I will add your request to my queue.

    @ 11:57 ... super curious about this. I also have a GE dehumidifier connected to a smartplug that is managed by HA. Challenge I have is that the GE once power is restored at the plug it requires to press the "On" button on the top console... how did you circumvent that? is there a way to hardwire that so its always on when power is present?

    • @JoshsSmartHome
      @JoshsSmartHome  2 місяці тому +2

      Thanks for the question. Ours comes on when the power is turned on at the plug. We have it on the auto setting. It may be the setting or the model is different. To get around this, you could consider a switch bot button press robot to push the bottom a few seconds after power is turned back on.
