One of the few politicians with a thing called integrity.
This is something that is sadly lacking in most politicians of today.
I wish him well and also the SAS who go above and beyond to keep us safe.
To paraphrase an old saying, "Hey media, don't bite the hand that protects your ability to do what you do freely."
I'm not defending alleged war crimes but a few points to remember. Special forces exist to do the tasks that others can't or won't. The clandestine operations they perform and how they achieve their targets are sanctioned by the government but the government doesn't want to know how they do it. Are they all angels? Probably not. How many of us are? The tasks they are given couldn't be achieved by many, which is why the selection system is so rigorous and the percentage of those candidates who actually pass selection is so small. Publicly charging these men will lead to one thing and one thing only. A reluctance to both applying for selection to the regiment and a reluctance of the men to achieve their targets by any means possible. All countries who have armies also have special forces just as they all have spies. These men act upon orders to deal with our worst enemies whether conventional or terrorist. They are not policemen they are trained killers and not Sunday school teachers. Live with the reality and accept the terms.
There are rules. The Australian SAS is under investigation. Read about Ben Roberts Smith.
@@yuglesstubeYes I did but I still don't have to agree to the practice. I served and was charged on several occasions and had many disciplinary actions taken against me without being charged. None of these offences would have even been entertained by a civilian court or legal system . It's a different world with a completely different set of rules. Don't forget that if you are given an order to shoot, that's what you do. As a soldier you are in effect a sanctioned killer under given circumstances.
@laurencehastings7473 Interesting.
Of course orders must be legal for them to be valid.
It is the case that the Australian SAS committed serious crimes in Afghanistan. Shooting POWs, civillians and those surrendering.
They falsified evidence to justify killings. They blooded newer members. They lied to military authorities and military lawyers.
Mi Lai was another example of what happens when soldiers depart from the rules of war.
It appears in the UK that the military and government are engaging in a cover-up.
This is very concerning.
Remember Leveson? Just dropped after the election.
These are examples of institutional corruption.
In Australia the Lawyer who leaked the SAS allegations is being prosecuted.
We need to straighten out our militaries, our governments and our courts if we are to operate as viable democracies.
And our banks and financial systems.
Everything has become corrupt. There is no accountability for the powerful.
Remember Greensil? Cameron has since been awarded a peerage. Julie Bishop in Australia was actively, as was Cameron, lobbying on behalf of Greensil to incorporate their services into civil service pay structures.
And now he's a Lord.
And she's out there shilling something.
I did find your post and your reply very interesting. I have.made the same basic argument myself. I find myself conflicted on this issue. As you say, war is a nasty business and bad things happen.
Having thought it through, I have concluded that we cannot fight wars without observing the Geneva Conventions.
If we don't maintain standards, the other side wins the war for hearts and minds. We radicalise opposition and alienate the people.
I can't imagine what you have been through. It sounds terrible.
Anyway, thanks for your interesting and thoughtful input. I appreciate it. It's a very complex issue. I hope youre ok.
We ask these men to go and do thing most soldiers prefer not to do and then we do this too them , It's a dam disgrace ,
These men love to do the things they do and we don't know the half of it so don't know what we are asking them to do.
When did Conservative MPs worry about the law.
Another UA-cam t wat who has no idea of the issues involved.
A certain Mr Blair comes to mind.
Not being a little simplistic, are you? This idea that Labour is only rightenous and good and Tories are pure evil is rather naive and adolescent.
Totally agree mate when did they worry or even have to
The sas have a very very serious job . We need to respect there special duties .
And their surprised know one wants to join up , it’s a disgrace .
He's not refusing to give the names of the accused, he's refusing to identify the accusers; the whistleblowers.
Good for Mercer, whistleblowers will not come forward if their names are made public
They can be kept out of the public domain but the judge can know their names.
These damn judges want to be questioned about their loyalty to our brave soldiers !!! Years ago they certainly showed favour to the upper classes .
Good for you Johnny, .
Make Johnny Prime Minister. 🇬🇧
Why don't you put some context to this item ? Just a random person jabbering about nothing, as it stands ...
Sounds unprofessional for a journalist to call Mercer and Sunak by their first names, or is this a Times Conservatives thing?
The risks added to the UK food supplies have increased due to the policies of Brexit by extending supply lines! Incredible that these issues were not considered at the time. Nothing has really changed in terms of threats to the UK.
The SAS do and should work outside the law !!.. They were founded on that principal... Be thankful that they do.🇬🇧
Jonny Mercer, a real Soldier who looks after his own
Be nice to see that judge and the lawyers determined to further damage the armed forces reputation put in a real war situation. They wouldn't last 5 minutes but, just before they died, they might realise that war is different from an Islington chat room! They should wear the Phil Shiner badge of shame.
Chicken come home to roost.
This is what UK unjustly alleges about Israel.
What are you talking about? Do you have any idea of the details of this incident which involved 1 terrorist not 30000 mainly civilians.@@Rtg5637
@@Rtg5637what are you a bot? There's a matter of scale here. 20k plus dead children and collective mass starvation is what Israel is being accused of, with pretty much no defenders. It's not the same. So maybe you can stop robotically saying this.
Don't get me wrong though, not a Hamas fan.
@@marcdornan1454 May not think of yourself Hamasatan fan but you help them continue their activities and spread lies about children.
A true fact is that no more than before Oct 7.
If the names are given, they’ll have to leave the SAS if they’ve not already done so. This is bound to have a detrimental effect on the huge amount of trust they have to have among each other. You can’t do your job in Special Forces unless you know with all your being that the guy behind you would take a bullet for you. You can’t do these high danger missions without that level of trust.
If Mercer was in the forces when this happened and heard rumours he should have spoken out then! There is no reason why the Judge cannot know the names of accusers. Mercer trying to make a name for himself on other peoples shoulders!
SAS don't operate without orders,, so if a crime was committed it should be the commander of UK forces in Afghanistan at the time facing prosecution
Counter insurgency wars are nasty deadly bitter affairs. The SAS had a bad record of going off track and doing similar stuff in Malaya. As is stated some of the victims might have been far from innocent but that’s the game that’s played and breaking the military’s own law is not acceptable and in the long term affects unit integrity as we have seen as there are whistleblowers. Bottom line its wrong. I have sympathy with the Minister as he knows full well that anonymity is very permeable the more people know the names and details.
He’s a fake.
Chicken come home to roost.

Unjustly, lol. Never watched any of the videos I assume?
@@jeffree9015 Fake videos
@@jeffree9015 Watched all Oct 7 videos. That's enough. You didn't.
He's defending murderers, not soldiers
He's a joke and a coward flash in court flash out don't worry his wife will come to his rescue plus mummy n daddy's bank don't worry Johnny must say the name says it all 😅😅😅
