she deserved way more then she got. I was very fortunate to be around (and that my local alt station played her) during this period in rock. At least listening to her music today brings me back to a happier time :)
I used to have, "The Burdens of Being Upright," on the cassette. I played it so much that the tape had been worn out after a couple of years. Wow, this brings me back to my teen years. I miss this.
My teen daughter discovered this album a few years ago, much to my delight. I discovered Mother Mother on one of my morning walks in the Spring of '96, and promptly bought the album. Nice to share enjoying it with my girl!
Fucking icon legend probably my favorite album of all time. So underrated I can’t imagine my youth without this album. Reached in my angsty teenage soul.
Been on a bit of a TB kick lately and this is the first time Ive seen this video. I usually search for live performances. Burdens was, and is still, one of the most underrated records of the 90s. An absolute gem of kick ass rock.
The 90s were great but also too much competition. And also the pop scene was big. So this kind of artists were aired at night at 10pm 11pm or midnight in defect. You had a big variety from funk metal punk electro techno pop R&B new metal grunge rock and roll new wave hip hop shoegaze among others. Now you have images and noise produced by computer.

@@hernanbruno4178 same here, I was a little young when grunge was in its prime, but clearly remember the post-grunge rock era with bands like Bush, Stabbing Westward, and Live.

One of the best music experiences I've ever had was when Ed Ackerson was swiveling while playing his guitar during the chorus of this song. I was next to the stage.
I thought that too; she should’ve at least had Grammy nominations or American music award nominations her something. But then, Alanis Morissette ,Jewel, Sheryl Crow and rock band Garbage were dominating the modern rock scene.
Tracy Bonham was too grunge for the main stream at that time. Main stream music was pulling away from that stuff by the time she hit the scene. Lilith Fair and lighter alternative music is what they wanted. Grunge was pretty much dead in the water. Bonham came out way too late.
What l wouldn't give to be back in 1999 in my ex g/f's dorm room at college listening to this song and drinking Rolling Rock made in Latrobe PA again..........
Tracy was my first celebrity crush, I was a 9 year old kid and I had the hots for a 29 year old musician with a violin. Yeah, you could say I was a bit weird.
How Fkn Rad is that intro!! Yeah, so I'm a child of the 80's;) but I'll admit the 90's also had a handful of good artist (and those artist we're also children of the 80's;) and yeah, and this band is Totally Underrated. The Burdens of Being Upright album kicks so much ass!! Rock On!!

Shit, she needs to return to her roots and rock out hard with her next album, I heard some clips from "Masts of Manhatta" and wihle she's an excellent musician, I found myself missing this sound. BTW, I checked out the lyrics to this song and they finally made sense. The song seems to be about being murdered, call me nuts. Totally kick ass though, Bonham needs to go back to this.
Wow, this is from 14 years ago? o_O I bought this CD ages ago and never saw the clip. The clip's not really that great, but this is a fantastic song, one of my faves on the CD, next to Navy Bean.
She had crappy videos, except the Mother Mother one (with the TV). Not her fault, it's probably her record company's, but MTV wouldn't play that "you in front of the wall" video concept even if the song is good.
I though she was the next Alanis. She is extremely talented, but maybe her music wasn´t pop enough. I´m guessing "Bulldog" could have been a single for that record.
I thought "Sharks Can't Sleep" was awesome with the fish tank, and Sea-Chimps. She came out just as Alternative Nation was ending. In 1997, MTV switched to mostly pop divas, boy bands, and reality shows for a new generation. More importantly, the Telecommunications Act of 1996 allowed huge conglomerates(like MTV's parent company Viacom) to buy up all local independent radio stations(aka alternative) and push corporate shite to make more money. From 1996-2002, Clear channel went from owning 40 stations to 1,240 after the deregulation. futureofmusic.org/article/research/radio-deregulation-has-it-served-musicians-and-citizens

THE TRUE 90S
PERIOD.
This song smells like the dorm hallways...circa 1998

Ever listen to The Murmurs?
Their debut album literally kept me alive when everything else in life had left me for dead.
Of the 90's female alternative rock singers, she was always the sassiest, hottest, and most creative of them all to me.
I blow my ears with sharks can't sleep. Powerful song!
Kay Hanley was my favorite
@@jimsmith4192 kay was also very important to me. both incredibly talented. tracey's songwriting skills are very difficult to beat...
So was Liz Phair

Listen to the whole album. One of the best alt rock albums of all time.
First we had Ashley MacIsaac combining Violin Music With Rock and Now Tracy Bonham Is Doing It Too. I Applaud Her!!
This album is 💯/💯 no skip!!!
Man this was the soundtrack to my young adulthood.😊
Somehow this song came into my head but couldn’t remember who sang it. Spent 20mins googling the lyrics. Finally found..worth every second
"Say you love me, as you pull the trigger. Better today, rather than tomorrow." Definitely in my top 5 greatest lyrics of all time.
I was born in 95, so I wasn't really a teenager of the 90s, more a teenager of the 00s. But this is just dope, a nice refreshing break from Hole.
In 1996 i was 14 and i lived in the fabulous 90's. It was cool.

Goddamn, 90's MTV was something else.
I so remember calling The Box and ordering this song!! Best teenage years of my life!!

Thank you again, Tracy!
I lived in Lima back on those 90’s years and Radio Miraflores used to play Tracey’s songs
I still love this woman's music. She is ageless to me.
I've had the, 'oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, you should enjoy the weather', in my head weekly, at least, since the 90s.
I loved wearing shirts like that
don't get why she wasn't bigger.... she fit the niche at the time. couple of good songs though

You're the one Tracy. One of my favorite female music artists. You still rock this 2022 year.🤘😉
I had only see Tracy Bonham in Mother Mother. I knew her voice was righteous, but it never occurred to me that she was also a foxy redhead.
I remember ordering this song by dial up on my one line house phone on 'The Box' in Chicago as a teenager!! 😭
She's so gorgeous! Perfect song :)
