Me too! Started out with my old Tootsie cars to practice stripping/painting techniques (no disassembly needed) ... slowly moving onto my old matchbox cars. ... saving my favorite car (' 72 Javlin) till my skills are up to snuff....
There are more methods of concealing the broken windows, if you clean the part and dip it in Humbrol Gloss Coat it has an incredible effect at removing scratches both light AND heavy, it is definitely something you should have a go at with some of the extra windscreens that I am sure you have lying around. Model medic has some videos on his channel about this, and it is a trick a lot of model aircraft builders use to remove scratches on cockpit glass. Another good video BMHW thank you.
The color came out fantastic! Though I did notice that the interior looks to have bee bent downwards on the aftermath shot, here's hoping that was caught before the car was sent back. Otherwise its great as always!
I like the guy with a beer in his hand getting pulled over. Don’t drink and drive!! Great job on the car, I agree that the paint color seems more appropriate for the style. 👍
I actually like the root beer color a lot better. This looks really sharp. I’m blown away at your attention to detail. As odd as this may sound, sometimes it’s relaxing just listening to your videos. Love the channel and I really enjoy the variety in cars, paint, and techniques that you use! Have a fantastic day and thank you for making awesome content so often.
My first thought at seeing the original blue was I hope he doesn't redo that, and you didn't disappoint. Root beer looks fantastic. Love your channel. Thanks for your hard work.
I typically don't care for Root Beer/brown paint on cars, but that looks beautiful! It also looks more like a paint Mercedes would've used. Excellent work, as usual.
Agree totally with the colour choice, gives it a realistic believable feel and your excellent prep and finishes really make it pop. 'Top Job Fella' ;-)
I definitely agree that the root beer spectraflame over the metallic primer looks far more realistic and even gives the model a more accurate desirable appeal amongst its peers. Excellent job with this one!
Here in the UK we pretty much had the choice of Matchbox or Corgi in the 80's. Corgi always looked and felt much cheaper and lighter than matchbox, you can see the difference in the big door gaps and low quality wheels. I'm trying to customise a few at the moment and it's hard to make them look good. You've done a great job with this one!
Another great video as always baremetalhw! I love the way it turned out, I especially like Root Beer spectra flame. It really compliments the car and does give it a little more realistic look, atleast for me. But I think the most impressive aspect was the paper plate trick, it was pure GENIUS!!! By far one of the coolest tips and tricks you've given us. I seriously can't get over how well it works and it's simplicity. I've always tried to go over it with a chrome pen or brush, and I always no matter how careful I am get paint in the low spots. This will definitely come in handy and not just for car restorations! Thank you for sharing 👍👍
more a modelcar than a toy car….but i even liked the Original, theres an interesting siku model like that and ive never seen the corgi. great job on the base and paint. this restoration wont ever disappear, will stay forever! thats great.
The paint job turned out great. I was surprised that you painted the silver basecoat instead of zinc-plating, but I can't argue with the results. Looks good.
The car looks fantastic. It definitely looks less like a toy. I am looking forward to your video on making clear windshields. I need to make a few myself. 😀
That looks stunning, and the body color was a great choice. The guy named Mike in Australia that restores Matchboxes uses a thinned black wash on his wheels, which looks really good, so maybe that would work on these Hotwheel types as well.
The rootbeer color along with the worn beat up looking tires makes it look like one of those really old cars you would find hidden away in a garage but had a reasonable amount of care still given to it.
Although the paint is called root beer, it looks more like a high gloss olive green on my screen. The chrome basecoat is a nice touch. Overall a very nice resto-mod. I was however, kind of hoping to see the door handles touched up with a chrome pen.
Excellent restoration as always. I've never seen you do a bad one. Mind you, you probably don't show us those.... A little trick for wheels scuffed up like those is to gently melt the frays with a lighter. It takes a bit of practice but i bet you have a bunch of wheels you won't use so there's lots of fodder for mistakes. If you get good enough, it puts a bit of gloss back on the wheels. Keep on putting out these excellent vids...
That rezto is awesome, great colour as well, the only bummer is the original wheels, but it still looks fantastic, and the wheels do suit the car 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘
Corgi Collector here with some notes on the model. The Mercedes 280 was introduced by Corgi in 1969. They were pretty up to date on designs. It was first released in the Rockets line and as a regular wheel model. In 1970 it went to Whizzwheels. The model you are working with was made in around 1973. The mold was getting long in the tooth by then and the casting lines were getting rough. Although not as well known in the US, in the 1970's Corgi was the third largest diecast producer after Hot Wheels and MMatchbox
Root beer looks great. Looks more realistic. Great choice!
Yes, officer. It's just root beer.
@@KennyGarland Haha!
Hi, I am Korean hot wheel restorator
You are so handy!!
I am so jealous that you are so handy, respcet!!
I am so excited to see more clips of your.
Congratulations on 300,000 subscribers. You've more than earned it.
the paint brings out shadows and gives the surface detail a 3d look that most car paint jobs obscure. Nice work
Really love the final panorama. The guy with the beer in his hand, hilarious :D
He reminds me of Leatherface from TCM, lol.
Agreed
Mr. DUI didn't completely hide the jacked up dash.
I think the car looks great, very realistic in that color. You have inspired me to try restoring/customizing my own cars recently
The tires show the fun a kid or multiple kids had playing! Awesome job!
Truly talented. Because of this channel I've started working on my own Hot Wheels as well as moving on to model cars.
Me too! Started out with my old Tootsie cars to practice stripping/painting techniques (no disassembly needed) ... slowly moving onto my old matchbox cars. ... saving my favorite car (' 72 Javlin) till my skills are up to snuff....
You know what, I LOVE this color and the decision to keep the old wheels was neat. They fit perfectly in the final result. Amazing!
Car turned out great, unfortunately the driver looked a bit worse for wear with his Pabst, lol . Another great job!
Brilliant paint job, adds realism. Thanks for the video.

Another good video BMHW thank you.
Wow! That color really works with this car. It really brings out the detail and depth in the casting.

Incredible!!! I love how the paint settled in the body lines. It made the entire car “pop”.
Great job. Looking forward to your take on redoing plastic windscreens on the fly! Thanks for your dedication to this hobby and sharing with us.
This is one of the best restorations yet. I love the color.
Loved this restoration, and I'm really liking the base used to showcase the car at the end, a nice touch.
That rub-n-buff stamping process was very clever!
Outstanding job! I reckopn that this car never looked this good even when it was new. Your painting is gettingt better with every job you do.
I think it looks more realistic in the Root Beer color then the plain blue. Thanks for sharing this and the model looks great!
wow...thanks for bringing back the beauty and magic that these cars gave their owners...
You have an awesome eye for colour! That Root Beer is a great hue!
I typically don't care for Root Beer/brown paint on cars, but that looks beautiful! It also looks more like a paint Mercedes would've used.

This color on this car definately appears to me less like a toy. It turned out very nice. Great work!
Your work has inspired me to learn how to airbrush my plastic model kits
Pure awesome. Great colour choice for that car. Love the guy drinking a beer with cop.
This color really add to this casting! It's a beauty.

You've done a great job with this one!
Always an enjoyable experience watching you restore these cars. Thank you.
Great color combination...and another beautiful restoration.
I really like the color you added to this car. Very fitting to the model.
Looks great mate but I definitely would have liked to have seen a wheel swap on this one
Bang on, Rob.
That looks awesome much better then that blue
The color was spot on. Looks fantastic!
That turned out beautifully! You should try the Molotow chrome paint pens on the worn wheels. They work great.
Stunning colour and that wheel restoration was top nothch. Great job!
It’s looking amazing on your diorama, very beautiful result. Thank you for sharing your amazing story. God bless you and your family
personally i think this is your best one yet.
Looks great. That screams 70’s Mercedes
That paint job looks gorgeous!
Looks awesome! Definitely better than the original blue. The stamp technique with the wheels was extremely clever and worked great!
I think that is a very elegant color for that car. It looks great.
Looks great, just right colour for that car. Hope you do more Corgi Juniors cars.
Another great video as always baremetalhw!

You've earned your position as the best restoration and modification master on YT. Congrats on the subs. Beautiful work as usual.
Brilliant choice on the color, backed up by the great job you did in all the painting steps. Overall, this is work you should definitely be proud of.
Good job the root beer is a decent colour for that project 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!

That colour though....💯

Love the colour . Great restoration with limitations of the owner.
That looks stunning, and the body color was a great choice.

Very good work! The color is very hard to get used to, but very interesting on this model!
Thanks for the video!

The chrome basecoat is a nice touch. Overall a very nice resto-mod. I was however, kind of hoping to see the door handles touched up with a chrome pen.
I noticed the same thing on my screen, despite most commenters not mentioning it. Wonder if it is due to the color cast of our screens?
I truly believe you do the best paint jobs!
Excellent restoration as always. I've never seen you do a bad one. Mind you, you probably don't show us those....

The paint came out looking awesome!! Looks so real🤯 great restoration
Looks awesome. Realism at its finest.
Looks gorgeous in that paint!
Great job over all, the coloration is extremely fitting for this model/type of car.
That Turnd out really nice, you get the paint to go on so nice great work.
Looks great, the paint looks way better than a bright color. Keep up the great work!!
Looks bloody fantastic, outstanding work.
Awesome bud, I was just looking through some Corgi jnrs I have last night. Looks fantastic in that color.
I don’t know what it is but I like this whole set up. Good job on this.
You are a genius as well as an artist, awesome work, thanks for sharing.
That rezto is awesome, great colour as well, the only bummer is the original wheels, but it still looks fantastic, and the wheels do suit the car 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘
Really nice work. The new color suits it much better than the blue that Corgi put on it.
Really LOVE that paint job!
Nice hack on the tire painting. Good color choice.
I really liked the figures you put around the car at the end, really adds to the scene 👍
Nice classic color for a nice classic sedan.
That turned out very nice. Great job! That's how it should"ve come from the factory.

Man, that turned out gorgeous. Love the color!
I think the color used turned out excellent, works great on this car.
The restoration is amazing.
I personally really like the color choice.
