  • There is a REAL HAZARD here, watch to learn what and where that is! This Texas Hill Country dive spot has really interesting features that we enjoyed discovering as well as amazing cliffs, overhangs, and grottos. Check out an old mysterious truck that we found and even a sunken sailboat.

    Just FYI: I was a Deputy back in the 80's in Comal County. Comal park was open all the time back then and at the point, people would drive stolen vehicles off into the water. There was also an owner of a San Antonio massage parlor that had a fight with a boyfriend at the point. He or she decided to end it all and drove into the lake where they both drowned. It was rumored that they had about $150,000 cash in a briefcase with them. Don't remember if that was ever found. We had a San Marcos Dive Team look for it and help recover the bodies and vehicle. Another location for stolen vehicle dumped into the lake was at the Cypress Cove boat ramp. During a low lake period in 1986, tops of stolen cars were visible off the end of the boat ramp. We had wreckers coming out for several days pulling cars out. The San Antonio news media and the FBI came out after a rumor started that Harry "Bunny" Eckart, a local gambler/gangster's body was in the trunk of one of the cars. A body was never found and never was Bunny Eckert. Canyon Lake and Comal County have a lot of secrets that have never been resolved.

    Love this video! Not sure if your local or have seen canyon lake recently but I think a video about how low it is with footage would be awesome might bring some awareness to people and developers over pumping and draining the lake. There is a video just posted on UA-cam about what it looks like now. After I watched it, this video came up in my feeds. We need rain desperately and the Core of Engineers and the government need to clean this lake out now that it's so low. The Federal government just did that with local governments, me, lol at Lake Amistad! God bless them too. They removed over a million tons of trash and debris. It was no easy task but because it's so low they did it. Best time to do it. Now we are praying for rain to fill this beautiful clean lake up!!!

    Wow, nice video. I remember diving at Comal Park in back in 1972 with a group from San Antonio called the Alamo Baracudas. I was certified at 16 years old. Back then we had steel tanks (72cu ft) with a J valve that would cut off at 300psi, then you could pull a rod open the valve and you would have 300 psi to ascend gracefully, a single regulator, no Buoyancy Compensator. I was certified by YMCA. Also made many dives at North Park and at that time there was a 1930's Ford Coupe at about 45'. Been diving ever since. It is the most relaxing thing you can do. Hope all divers will help clean up all the trash as best they can.

    Thanks for this informative video. We live in the area and my kids take the boat out all the time, but the lake is so low now. It's sad too. I'm working in Del Rio, contract job, and talked to a man who works at the Department of the Interior, Federal level. He came to my office with some paper work for me to fill out for the city. We were talking about what they did at Lake Amistad. The federal government removed a million tons of trash and debris out of the lake because it's so low. The project is now complete and the reason for the paper work. I was told they take pride in their lake here in Del Rio and want it safe for everyone to enjoy. What a wonderful thing they did for this lake. I wish other lakes would follow suit, especially Medina Lake as it only has 2.6% of water in it currently. So sad. We need rain God, please! But what you are describing is Medina dam does not have this and there was some type of water intake near the bottom of the dam and on the structure itself... I find dams very interesting but I would never dive near them.... there should be a dam safety class :)

    A lot of drownings in that area through the years... deep drop offs are dangerous for poor swimmers.

    Why do you have to add music??? It is quite loud. It conflicts with your narrative, and for certain types of hearing deficits, it can cause the watcher to be unable to hear you. It can defeat the purpose of the content and is very annoying.

    I live lakefront off about a 1/2 mile from your dive....i had a "phantom" sailboat and a "dolphin" sailboat stolen from the lake edge like 10 years ago...the phantom was recovered all the way in the oaks subdivision torn to pieces but still floating and the dolphin was never found...i only say this cuz they are both very similar...almost identical to the sunfish

    • @scottbauerbelow
      @scottbauerbelow  Рік тому

      To be honest I was just assuming it was a sunfish because of the shape of the cockpit….are there any identifying features I should look for?

    I certified here. almost died one summer at the intake pipe. Alligator gar's can be HUGE. best time to go is after rainfall. water is crystal clear

    • @scottbauerbelow

      They are actually spotted gar and long nose gar…if there would alligator gar that would be pretty cool bit you won’t see those until you go downstream a bit and get closer to the gulf
