Very well done. Appreciate your input in the R & D phase of this knife and your thoughts on the final design, positives as well as the issues. Very nicely done, thanks again.
Love the design of this knife. Like you said, I would make changes to the handle, and probably have him tweak the design just a tad to include putting an actual choil in the blade. Add an inch or so of blade length, but leave it un-ground and put a curved notch in it like a true choil instead of just having that flat blank space there. Great review as always, Joe! Mr. C does good work.
William definitely does do a great job. For me personally, I wouldn't go for a choil. I am just not a fan of a choil at all. I like his concept for the handle, it just needs to be considerably bigger for it to fit my hand. But that is the beauty of having so many options out there. It's great to live in a day when the sky is the limit as far as knives meeting personal preferences. You truly can order what fits you and your fancy. Thanks!
Hey Joe, I have one of Williams Firebugs which is a skeletonized knife that shares the same grind philosophy. I just purshased one of his neck knives from a forum member and I look forward to receiving. I really like this knife and I know you said not to compare it to a Tracker, but to me this is what the Tracker was trying to be, William just did it better. On the handle on one of his other videos he mentions that if the handle is too thin you should order it with liners and that will add thickness. I agree that this handles are tall which is my only gripe with the Firebug. Anyway great video I was glad to see you do another review of Williams work.
I absolutely love William's work. And you know, I agree with with your statement about the Tracker. It makes complete sense. I wish I could go back and use that line in the video "It's what the tracker was supposed to be". Excellent insight Patrick, thank you!
William put a ton of thought, testing, and work behind this knife. And it shows. Once one gets passed the none traditional aspect, it really provides a lot of benefits. Thanks!
I am lucky enough to own 2 William Collins knives . Apparently that's not enough . Gotta have one of these with the mods you described . Moving right now but will be contacting William soon .
Great review. WC knife is a trusted custom made business. You couldn't go wrong by owing an WC knife. I own a smaller version of the woodsman knife and performs extraordinarily...
Real nice review, got to handle one of the prototypes a while back and it felt great, balance was there. Had the two Wc stamps on the blade so I feel lucky to know what the two grind knife was like.
I have been following this knife for a while. I am curious about it. Mr Collins work is top notch but I am so picky with my knives I would really have to try it out before I pulled the trigger and bought a knife with a design like that. Great job on the review.
Best review of this knife I have seen so far. Your well worded critique in no way criticizes the knife. I noted them same issues just looking at it. Big hands could have an issue with the standard design. However, as you said William is a custom knife maker. Tell him what you like and what you want and he will make it
For the most part, I all get all of my whetstones from Dan's Whetstones. Best in the business and the friendliest people you could ever meet. www.danswhetstone.com/
A High, Joe, Ok, I commissioned William Collins to make me a Master Woodsman too, But mine will be in the CPM 154. I ordered a Battle Horse Mad Hatter in L6, But I also had it made with a Dual Grind, Actually I got the idea from my Mora 2000 and Colhane and what he does to his Tramontina Machetes. Oh, I also just pulled the trigger on a Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet and since it's one of my Fav. Bush Craft Hatchets I didn't rush getting my Mini Trekking Hatchet. All I need to add is my folding saw. I got the stainless steel for wet and snowy days, The reason I had a dual grade put on it, I hope I can get by using it as a large knife. Right now it's to clear through some brambles, Thanx, Joe.
Some liners under the scales might have solved the thickness problem Joe. Great look at another incredible knife from William Collins. He is a master. Thanks for sharing it.
Say Heah Joe, Yeah, I know I'm going to be happy with mine. I got into a Fox kick. I built up my Stainless Steel Stable, I went with a Bohler N690Co. So I took and matched up a couple of knives that look similar to his design. I ordered a Fox Trakker Utility Camp and Sniper Knife and a Fox Trapper two knives that are similar. I also got another Fox similar , The Jungle Combat Knife and teamed it with the Fox Pro Hunter. Check this out. Now I have my Fox Hitam Golok which I teamed up with the Fox Trakker Utility Camp and Sniper Knife, my Fox Bushcraft Parang with my C. S. Master Hunter in 3V, The Fox Jungle Combat with the Fox Pro Hunter and the Fox Trapper with the Fox Panabas, Plus I have thevA-1 teamed up with the H-1 plus my Steel Will Druid 240 and the Druid 230. I'm also liking and teaming my Condor Wilderness Tool with my S. O. G. Seal Pup Elite TiNi. I think I have a nice stable of wet and snowy condition knives. I like using ritation's.,,. Oh, I posted some of them.,,.
With Spring on it's way, and me playing in the rain or mix, Yeah, I built up my stainless steel stable. Because weather doesn't stop me or I'd be sipping tea alot at home and looking at magazines to buy some new knives heh heh heh.,,.
Say Heah Joe, sorry for all the post's. But this was the 3rd weekend with our gang, Yup, I brought my new combo William made for me, I did my own take on his Master Woodsman, I had it made in a Cryo 3V, and about a 8 1/2" blade depending where you measure it, I asked for a 7 3/4" blade, But with the Choil, it came out perfect for what I need it for, the matching smaller blade is sort of a Eliptical Profile, similar to a robust Canadian Boat Knife, both compliment eachother first class, but with William's Signature Handles, the handles came out perfect, Yeah, I had a Choil put on both. I did post them on my Google Plus, Lemme know what you think, Ok, Dilly, Dilly.,,.p
Say Heah Joe, You know I have a Master Woodsman on order. I want a 7 1/2"+or- and in 3V. Yup White G-10 with Black Liners and his newest concept with a choil, You know O like choil's, to match my other white handle knife that's in 3V with white handles. Stop giving him suggestions until he makes mine. you got your suggestion in 3 day's and I'm waiting a year heh heh heh.,,.
say Heah Mr. Joe. I got a Cold Steel Master Hunter in 3V and in the S M III. It fit's both of our taste. I know this. I suggest you try the 3V version. It's thinner than the S M III. and it sort of has a belly similar to the Jessmuk. Not as pronounced, but if you study it, it's there. But it's the price. A 3V steel for a reasonable price. Infact this weekend, I'm going Cold Steel. I plan on taking my C. S. Recon Scout vintage in the CarbonV. Another reason is, C. S. Zero qienches, I realized that when I teamed my S. O G. Seal Pup Elite TiNi with my Condor Wilderness Tool. A nice piece of kit. Anyhow, Even though it's a AUS8a it hold's a reasonable edge retention. We'll C. S. uses a similar tempering process with S. O G. 's but call's it Zero Quench. Imagine it in 3V. for the $$$ yeah, it's a good buy. But then it's also what I mentioned. The belly, it's even alittle more than on my S M III version. I even once read a post where even Ethan Becker complimented the Master Hunter. Oh, WoW a Thunder clap. But yeah, take a 1095 CroVan Zero Quench it and what do you get. That's right a CarbonV. So I teamed my CarbonV Recon Scout with my 3V Master Hunter. Usually I like nevk carrying a neck knife like my Mora 510, But with the Master Hunter I don't have to use my Mora 510. But I will Cary one of my EDC's my Camillus Silver Sword Canoe Stockman. Just incase I need to do some very fine carving. Bit right now, for where we're going and doing, It'll be in my pouch. I'm bringing my C. S. Double Edged Machete. But my wood processing will be done with my Estwing Duble Bit Hatchet and my Bond Folding Saw that has an egg shape handle. I think the weather will keep is inside untill the storms clear, But I'm sure alot of practice making fire in the rain. But serious Joe. Check it out. I think you'll like the 3V Master Hunter.,,.
That's an elegant well thought out blade!!
I like the exposed tang. Nice review!
Thanks bud!
Thanks Joe. Great job as always
Wow, that's quite a knife!

Very nice review. Not my style, but very interesting.
Thanks Matthew!
Some liners under the scales might have solved the thickness problem Joe. Great look at another incredible knife from William Collins. He is a master. Thanks for sharing it.
Crazy original knife! Awesome work, my friend!
I've watched Williams development of this grind on you tube... it was interesting to see his thinking on it.

I love the blade! However I prefer broomstick type handle like kephart. I’m certain WC can make. Dr Dave
Great review on the knife Joe. What happened to your intro? I thought it the best intro in youtube world.
Some liners might make the handle wide enough for you.
