There are plenty of players in the modern era who use great, driven, slice backhands against Serena, but rarely find success against Serena. Handsy players like Radwanska have trouble re-establishing pace when hit a driven slice, thus, Radwanksa, re-slices, electing to have the other player regenerate the pace of the rally. However, Serena has no trouble regenerating pace or re-slicing, thus she has two options when facing a driven slice. Re-slice or regenerate pace and move to the offensive. The real problem to note is that because Serena is usually "ahead" in the point, her opoonents rarely find the oppurtunity to set up and drive a slice, their slices will usually be fluffuy, high off the ground because they are on the mild to extreme defensive side of the point. These fluffy slices, serena will pummel. Serena has seen slice and COP players before. She can handle it
+LDVTennis yeah, I still disagree. Serena lost because she got really tight lost confidence. Roberta made balls, and was really crafty but I think serena beat herself tbh. But I do agree that in that particular match, the crafty slice game was the perfect game to beat serena on that day
+LDVTennis Roberta Vinci played well vs Serena & obviously beat Serena while also stopping her from completing the calendar Grand Slam. But I think the pressure & stress of completing the Grand Slam was what beat Serena, not Vinci's slice backhand.

On a bad day, when your best shots aren't working or you are not in top physical form, you have to have a plan B and you must be willing to work. Serena has never had a Plan B or at least one that she could execute. That's what Vince (and now Kerber) was able to expose and exploit. Indeed, it is telling that as Serena gets older and loses the ability on any given day to out serve and outhit her opponent that there's not much else to her game. This was never true of Martina, Court, and Graf. Serena has always been held to a lower standard because the skill level of women's tennis is not what it used to be.

When are you haters ever going to give Serena the Respect she's earned? Serena is not perfect or a robot. Serena has now lost 5 Grand Slam Finals to 4 different finalists while winning 21 Grand Slam finals. That fact & stat alone deserves Respect. But Haters like you want to try to diminish her accomplishments because you think Serena Williams did it only with power & that's all you think she's about. Even if that's true, which it isn't. If Serena Williams is able to compete in 26 Grand Slam Finals & win 21 of those Championships with Only Power is an amazing achievement. Of course, if you, like myself, are a tennis player & know a lot about this great sport, know it takes more than just power to be successful. Speed is important. Clean & quick footwork is helpful. Excellent hand/eye coordination is necessary. Good ball placement would be nice. And if you are powerful with your control of the tennis ball & powerful with your movement around a tennis court than more power to you. But to diminish Serena Williams' accomplishments by saying she's only about power is ridiculous. God or Jehovah has blessed Serena Williams with a powerful, athletic body & mind but that's not enough for you Haters. No, she only has a Plan A game. No, she has no variation in her tennis game. No, she only has a great serve & if her serve is not working than she can't do anything else. Mind you, if anybody can't get their serve in & they can't get their serve to work then NO ONE is going to win not just Serena Williams. What is wrong with you Haters? I have to be honest. Graf's slice backhand was surgical. She won a lot of points by controlling that background like no other player....even today.
