Our 1890's house has subfloor just like that - two layers of offset planks. They laid purty hardwood on top of that, but the structure is that same rough sawn planking. You wouldn't think it would bounce, being so thick, but then our 12 year old goes galloping up and down the house... This is another great video. Bravo to the builders, and to the filmmaker! The atmosphere you're conveying is captivating.
Love your comment-Your house must have the coolest character! haha same story in our bouncy old house. Our 5 year old jumped upstairs last night and I thought I saw the ceiling flex 😂
Just completed watching all twelve episodes. Look forward to watching future episodes that real your reconstruction of Dan's cabin. Thanks for including your children in this channel - they are adorable!
Cheers! We are out at Dan’s right now as I type this, getting rained on 😂 Huddled in the car. Kids think it’s a real adventure! Thanks so much for watching the whole series 🎆
So interesting to hear some of the history of where you live and the immigrant story. Love Uncle Pete's old Indian bike. What a classic! Nice work on the floor and the table restoration. So nice to see the family enjoying that magnificent countryside together. Look forward to the next installment!!
Hoorah! That Indian bike is just too cool, I agree. We are gearing up for walls right now-navigating weather. It went from 90 degrees to 40 degrees outside… oh Montana.
I love your channel and your work. It’s so refreshing to listen to you, and the kiddos in the background enjoying being with their parents. The ethic of days gone by lives on in your family✨God bless you!
I am from Türkiye and I live in Italy. I can say that for sure if you do not live in an earthquake zone, this type of stone foundation is perfectly fine, healthy, and also sustainable. I saw hundreds of examples all around Europe and Türkiye during my trips. In fact, if you know what you are doing, you can even build houses not only foundations.
Thank you! Love your comment-Your perspective of seeing stonework all around Europe and Turkey is fascinating. Stone is a beautiful God-given material.
Hi Guys🇺🇸.Great work, The restoration from start with the stone foundation, looks autentick with the floor beams and the pine floor,Thanks for sharing stafe save & take care🙏🏻🍀Greetings,Hubertus🇳🇴🇳🇱The old Dutch Norwegian☮🙏🏻🇺🇸
Hey thanks! I (Jessie) actually studied in Kentucky with the Dry Stone Conservancy when I was younger. (That sounds fancier than it is, haha, but I learned a ton watching proper stone masons do their work well.) People freak out at the lack of mortar and deep footings, but it is an ancient method that serious stonemasons use today. I butchered it a bit, but the basic ideas are there 😄🙌🏻
lovely property, lovely family, lovely build!

Cement or concrete has been a "thing" for over 2000 years...
Yes! It has, and so has dry stone 👍🏻
