Overwhelmed with respect. I have to watch UA-cam videos just to install 3 wire outdoor lights.Having to plan building a new home from a buildable plot of land then having it designed to my needs,I would respect the contractor/sub contractor. Then I would visit the site to be educated about each major/critical step of the way ,then disappear and let them work with the respect they have earned. Living here in the states and visiting Europe many times, there are many things we could learn from the “ European Way” of doing things. The way they build/have built their homes is appropriate for their environment. They don’t have seasonal flooding, hurricanes, earthquakes and limited forest fires nor construction codes that sometimes financially benefit the builders. Would gladly trust those tradespeople to build my house if I lived in that area- if I had a serious financial windfall. By the way- Luv the house….

Very well done, great choice for walls and floor. One question though. You built your house with structure and insulation as priority, and then put a wooden roof on it? Why not continue the theme with concrete and insulation. Much more energy efficient. Great video, nonetheless.

I'm not sure what country this is but I assume it's somewhere in Europe. The quality of construction is much better than in the U.S.. Builders here use young growth yellow pine and mostly cheap materials. On a nicer more expensive home they will use the Zip greenboard. They're built for speed of construction and maximum profit for the builder. Most builders won't learn new building systems because it will hurt their profit. Even with all the natural disasters we experience like hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes and wildfires. There are a handful of builders in coastal areas that have started using ICF, but it's not common.

I live here in the US, you can get 8x12x16 Concrete Masonry Units at 3.85 per block. The negative is always the back breaking labor of running multiple tracts of CMU's to build a basement wall, let alone a basement followed by an exterior wall above grade. Add all the additional interlocking metal pins to reinforce the block runs vertically along with horizontally it is not cost, physically, or energy efficient to build this way. CMUs only rate a base r-value of 1.99. Wood framing with 2x6 and typical insulation will give a r-19 value. Finally, CMU's can and will collapse in earthquakes that generate surface cracking so they become a risk in regions of the US that experience tectonic shifts. New Madrid and San Andreas fault are both reasonable concerns. Storm Surge in Hurricane prone regions are another concern. Flash Flooding along the Mississippi, Missouri, Kaw, and Ohio River valleys is another concern.
Building a house that can withstand any natural disaster would basically require a person to build their house in a lightless limestone cave. Hardly the most appealing location to live.

@@aaronorr5586 That is why I mentioned ICF construction. The forms are made out of polystyrene which is as light as a feather. Rebar is added as the forms are being built and then filled with concrete. These building systems are very strong and are much safer than a stick or CMU built home for all the disaster scenarios you mentioned. I haven't looked into it recently, but the price difference has been negligible in the past. The biggest issue is finding a builder that understands or is willing to learn a new system. This building method had been used extensively in Europe and Canada for years.

@@Mark-op7zt We've had ICFs here in the US for two decades. The issues with flooding and storm surge along the gulf and east coast along with housing built in the flat lands around river bottoms and solid concrete foundation wall basements are a persistent concern. There is an engineering method of setting the house construction on beams that attach to piers that drop below the frost line for the area so when a flood comes through it doesn't sweep the foundation and the building on top. You essentially give the water quick access and egress so you end up limiting effects to the structure. Building with any form of concrete on top of these structures is an absolute no go as the ability to bear the weight takes an excessive amount of piers to support the concrete walls.
ICFs have their place but it is not an option for many locations. Understanding the wheres and whys of certain construction options is critical to the decisions of the hows.

Actually this is not a typical central European way of building a house. If u wanna see best from Europe check out Germany, Swiss, Austria and surrounding countries. Thermoblocks (standard 38cm width), concrete strengthening (full of rebar) collumns, insulation (styrofoam for budget builds or mineral wool for best ones. Also premium builds will often include sandwitch walls with thermoblocks on the inside, 12-15cm of insulation and thero bricks ont he outside or another row of blocks that are then covered in one of the modern facade solutions. Roof insulation standard is 10+20cm of stone wool and mineral wool. Plus foils, 2 types. Clay roof tiles or modern concrete roof tiles.

Found it funny as the starting comments was many people dream of getting away from the busy cities and closer to nature. But yet they bring their concrete with them 😂. Nice home though.

Traditional construction methods, like works of art, required many artists to work together to create a piece of art, but it was too long at that time, and the cost of labor was high. I have seen before that a certain company in China was making container houses, I don't know what they are called. Could it be "insta-nest" or "Pop up Palaces"? I wish we could use something that was fast and safe, and then I heard that in New York City, they decided to spend $3 billion to build their own modular dream. I mean, who needs to save when you can own a house that's almost made of gold-plated Legos?
