Storm Trackers rode out the violent winds of the eyewall of Category 4 (nearly Category 5) Hurricane Laura as she made landfall in Louisiana Thursday morning. Intense eyewall winds were watched from a safe location as the front side eyewall broke glass off the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, as well as the intensity of the winds creating power outages, as well as uprooting trees and tossing them down roads like ragdolls. After the calm of the eye had passed the backside of the hurricane came in much stronger resulting in the roof ripping off the hotel into many pieces and being thrown across the street, and into the parking garages.

I live directly in the middle of the state, and honesty, this footage was pretty tame as compared to what we experienced (I can't even imagine how those South of us felt 😳).
I'm not in any way trying to insult the storm chasers who shot this video. Heaven knows I wouldn't last a day in their shoes! 🙅🏻‍♀️ I'm just saying, if they want some even more interesting footage, go to a suburb or a rural area. It starts geting fun when a 50 ft sycamore hits and blows up a transformer, then takes the power lines down with it all. Also, the things that look like crumbled tinfoil? Those are actually pieces of metal roofing that will slice a person open like a scalpel. 😉

Yes. I have been in the eye of a storm. Hurricane Ike's eye passed right over my house. It's incredibly eerie to have the winds be howling outside and then suddenly stop...only to have them start up again violently minutes later. Nothing like it.

    • @BrotherMarkinter

@@abbikinghorn991 it went quiet and still for somewhere between 15-25 minutes. It was beyond eerie. I was already hunkered down with my family in our living room and we stayed where we were because we knew that it would crank up again. We were also terrified...the sounds you hear while going through the eyewall are pretty similar across storms. We were all pretty scared I won't lie. • @hypocrisyhunter8919

The hurricane eye came up the calcasieu river, thus winds were easterly then westerly as eye passed. If the hurricane had made landfall west of us, the wind would have been from the south, thus a surge. Yes I live in Lake Charles. No electricity for a month or so, but we do have water. Linemen from across the U.S. are here to completely rebuild our power grid. 250,000 customers with no power.
