I was an 80's teenager and 1987 was probably the best year of all of them. You had Starship, Toto, Foreigner, Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, Cheap Trick all completely killing it and at their peak, to name a few. And then on the metal side it was equally as wild with Bon Jovi , Whitesnake, Priest, Cinderella, Guns n Roses. All this I was 16 and right in the middle of this musical hurricane.
I was into Slayer, D.R.I, Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Septic Death, Dr.Know, ill Repute, etc. And also still liked "radio/ Mtv" music. 1987 Freshman year! Miss it.
I had the pleasure and privilege to see these amazing guys live and loud and I gotta say it's like a dream come true. It blew my mind when I found out they was coming to my town to play closing out the season. We have live music in our downtown area every Thursday during the summer. It just so happen my fav classic rock band came and played. They put on one hell of a shindig. I'll never forget that night. Greatest band out there. There lyrics are out there on something's and simple with others. Nothing compares to the evolution of Jefferson Airplane. Jefferson starship and now just as they deserve. Starship!
I am a percussion-lovin' fool but, when it comes to '80s music, I have an equal love for the keyboards (synths included), and it sounds especially great (fitting) in this song! 🎹
Do you ever get that feeling? The one that twists your stomach into knots so tight that your only emotion is well up with tears and fly back to those times and wish you could stay? Yeah. Me too.
I tore my achilles playing basketball.. odds were I wasn't going to play competitively again. this was one of my comeback songs! I used to cry in triumph to this when I made it back to basketball. GO STARSHIP!
Its not over til its over----still standing with all my memories of this point in time. It was a new beginning for me , split with the wife of forever--since high school ,changed jobs ,moved---oh it was hell. Then saw this video on MTV--life just flowed right on with me and my dreams. The best part of my life was yet to come----THANKS STARSHIP---love you Grace and Mickey......!!!
I feel you, yesterday something brutal happened to me, I thought my dream was definitely over, and then I was in the car and this song came up out of knowhere, I've never heard it before. I hope I can share a history as yours! And I think I got he message
I'm a black person but I can tell you right now somebody's rock and roll musics in the 70s 80s and 90s I totally fascinating. And I thank God as I get older my music taste gets different
Wow! I have been waiting for this video on UA-cam. I only saw this once in the 80s. I watched no way out, we built this city, nothing's going to stop us now, and this takes cake!
Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship had a total of 17 U.S. Billboard Top 40 hits from 1967 to 1989, including 8 Top 10s. Of those, 3 hit #1. This song was their penultimate Top 40 and final Top 10 hit, peaking at #9. It was over.
This man might just be the most outstanding vocalist EVER! He's one of my influences grew up with their music. Just so passionate and emotional. We need inspirational songs like this again. BTW this would be a great locker room song for a hockey team. They'd win every game! Just brilliant lyrics too.
I don't know why, I've never heard this song until today. And what a day to hear it for the first time......... Really! What a Day! Never heard this song before but damn I don't think this is coincidence. Great song! and yes.... I'm against all odds
Yup. I dont like getting political in music video comments but youre absolutely right. this song perfectly describes whats going on in the US right now with the election. Merry Christmas!
This is the first song I heard from Starship (under their new name). After getting hooked on this and Its Not Enough, I listened to Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now, from that movie soundtrack (I forget the name). Then I started revisiting all their classic hits from the 60s..,Somebody to Love etc. Stuff I grew up with when young, that I hadnt heard in years!! 😍😎
there is also a movie starring Bill Hader and Kristin Wiig, wherein they both sing the song as a duet together. I think it was called something like The Skeleton Twins, but dont hold me to it.
As someone who prefers the predecessors to this band by a mile!! (Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship for those who don't know) This is a great song and really probably the only song by this version of the band I can tolerate.
@Douglas-Lee Dempster A funny, yet embarrassing thing I did when I was a kid. The movie Mannican played on the movie channels often for a couple of Summers. "Nothings Gonna Stop us Now" was that movies theme song, right. So after the movie was over in the early afternoon, I went outside and started swinging an empty plastic outdoor trash can around in a circular motion, while singing that song at the top of my lungs, "and we can build this thing together, standing strong forever, Nothings Gonna Stop us Now...." Haha! I didn't know anyone was watching or going to hear me, until our neighbor opens her door, walks out to check her mail, then looks right at me. I stopped and froze immediately while feeling super embarrassed. The neighbor said, "don't stop on account of me, pretend I'm not here", followed with loud laughter. I knew she was being sarcastic and making a joke about the awkward situation. After she went back in her house, I ran back inside my parents house feeling a bit humiliated, but got over the cringe worthy feeling later that evening.
51 people love being loosers I guess! WOW!!! This is a truly awesome song! It's a shame they don't make em like this anymore! Groups like Starship, Toto, Scorpion, Styx, Survivor, Forigener,Night Ranger, Journey, Reo Speedwagon, and Kansas are the last of musical geniuses that bring heartfelt soul, grit and meaning!
This song describes the daycare I work at. We are like family....no....we are family! We love and care for our children and their families. And we will fight to keep it right and stay here for these families that need us. We love them and their children!
Huge moment in rock and roll history. unmatched video effects combined with top-notch writing. This video continues to age like spam on hot asphalt - in the mall parking lot
“It’s Not Over (‘Til It’s Over)” (1987) was Starship’s fourth Top 10 hit in less than two years. It was released 20 years after the epic “Summer of Love” (1967), when the band was known as Jefferson Airplane. Back then, Jefferson Airplane had a huge following among hippies*, especially in the San Francisco area. As the group evolved into Jefferson Starship (1974) and then Starship (1984), their tunes became more polished and radio-friendly. Instead of drugs, war or revolution as inspiration, they recorded numerous catchy love songs. 💛☮️💚 * “Hippies” got their name because they were “hip” or aware of what was going on in the world 🌎 around them. The hippie movement grew out of the earlier beatnik movement, which was a group of non-conformists living in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco.
To All People over the World. We can stand together to fight for peace, economic crisis and humanity. "IT'S NOT OVER TILL IT'S OVER" guys. DO NOT EVER YOU ALL GUYS GIVE UP TO WHATEVER YOU FACE IT. LOVE AND PEACE (Nov' 27, 2022)
This was Starship's final top ten sing ever back in 1987. They would never have another top ten hit but it was to be that way then they went out with a bang. A great tune that it reminds when I reconciled with a then girlfriend of mine. Sadly we broke up for good a year later .
I graduated in 87 was a great year.🐱
Sure was I graduated in 1987 as well.❤
I agree Mickey has a voice you want to hear all the time.
No one can forget Grace Slick. One of the best female rock voices of all time !
Except that’s Mickey Thomas singing the lead on this song.
Legendary voice 🎙

Just saw the remaining members in Deadwood, SD & they killed it! 🤠
That sound of The 80's. Magic.
I am a percussion-lovin' fool but, when it comes to '80s music, I have an equal love for the keyboards (synths included), and it sounds especially great (fitting) in this song! 🎹
As a keyboard/piano player myself, that’s a heck of a setup for 1987!
God how I miss being a kid growing up to AWESOME MUSIC like this!!!
Rewind is a phrase now. Used to be a word
Amen 🙌

so right you are
This would make a great soundtrack to a movie. If only movies today could have music like this.
Was just thinking that it would fit the 1st Terminator ost perfectly.
this song was actually in a movie a year before this was made, it was on the Playing For Keeps Soundtrack back in 1986 by Chris Thompson
If only movies 2day were set in those times.
