Chris, you are amazing! I’ll be backpacking next week in a gorgeous alpine wilderness of Washington. I wanted to test timelapse photography prior to my trip. This is exactly what I needed to get myself started. I setup my Fujifilm X-T3 with my Fujinon 16-80mm (I know that you don’t love this lens, but its perfect for backpacking [weather/dust resistant & OIS]) and set everything to manual, just like you said (I decided not to disengage the lens and didn’t notice ill effects). I nailed it on the first try! On top of this, it only took me about 2 minutes to figure out how to turn it into a proper video using LumaFusion on my iPad Pro. I just want you to know that you are helping me become a better photographer-you are helping all of us become better photographers.

Although I have an X-T30, I've learned so much from watching your videos. I appreciate the way you get in-depth into the settings and share your occasional frustrations. I've watched several tutorial videos where there was little talk of individual settings, only a quick glossing over of important editing information and no talk of failures or mistakes. Thank you for what you're doing and I hope the channel continues to grow and prosper 👍

When I was in high school (~2008ish), I worked for a small company that made time lapse equipment for civil engineering projects, mostly bridge construction. It was super cool but mostly went over my head. We made solar powered intervalometers with waterproof housings that kept a Canon DSLR going for months on end. A five-minute time lapse would cover two years of construction. Now I'm 30 and finally getting back into this incredible hobby and photography in general. Thanks for your wisdom!

I always appreciate watching time lapse but never until now, after watching your video, realized I can do it, so thank you very much. I’ll watch it again, just to make a list of what I need to do before going out as well as what I’ll need to do once on site. Having a check list will make all the difference for me until I become familiar with the settings. I just got into astrophotography and now I’ll have this to add to my repertoire. Thanks again. I’ve been shooting since I was a kid of ten. I’m 79 and once again, with the XT1 (converted to IR), XT2 and most recently the XT3, I’m having as much fun as when I first started out. Love the camera and again, loved this video. I’ve been inspired which is a gift in itself.

Well, here I am: A novice to photograpy, I have raked the YT and have not found a channel that would give as thorough, clear, and as practical instructions on how to use my Sony rx100 as yours on Fujifilm. So, i went ahead and got me a bearly used x-t30. For one, the fact that the most imortant settings are right on top rather than in the abyss of settings inside the camera is a blessing. Then, you make all the proceses so easy to learn. For this greenhorn, this makes it another blessing. Yes, the F camera is much heavier than the tiny S, but after watching a number of your films for days on now (my neighbors must think some talkative man has moved in with me 😆), I have decided to take both cameras to my 7 day… ultralight hike around Bornholm beginning of August. The neighbors will hear you talk a LOT before I go as I have a ton to learn and practice still. Anyway, your content gives me hope and inspires to grow my newfound hobby. THANK YOU!
    Ps. Greetings from Krakow, Poland!

Great video I had no idea that time lapse could be so technical. I'm brand new to the xt3. On the lens twist method, I've noticed that with some manual lenses they state to use 'shoot without lens' option. Can this be used with fuji lenses to the same effect as the lens twist method? Or have I missed something here? Would that cause other issues?

Awesome guide and lots of helpful advice and motivation. My first google search after watching this video was to lookup how to set a custom white balance on the X-T3 with a grey card to avoid flicker. It's very easy and would have been a useful inclusion in the guide. Looking forward to getting back out on the beach here in Sydney Australia to catch another beautiful sunrise (sadly no turtles). Grats on the 5k and keep up the great work !

GREAT point Joe! I definitely should have included that in the video for sure! In fact, I'm working on a new video on setting up custom white balance and white balance in general -- so this is great timing! A big hello to Sydney from me -- it literally is my favorite city on earth.

Love your videos. Got many tips in this single video to run my fuji ex4 for interval shooting mode. I'm into astrophotography as I've seen no one has shared tips for camera settings for fuji to get best results for aiming nebula's. Hoping you can get a video for that. Thanks!!

Hey Andy, that's great to hear... I wasn't sure if this was a relevant topic or not, as there are so many camera features, etc. to cover. I'm really really REALLY glad to hear that you found it helpful. All the best to you sir!!!!

pal2tech and the de-twist of the lens seems genius - I’m going to try that! 😊

@@andyobrien6263 Thanks Andy! Give it a go. Not a lot of lenses work with it, but the 35mm did for me. Just be extra careful. Remember that the lens is not attached as firmly to the camera. Don't do this technique of run/gun handholding of course, but for sturdy tripod-mounted stuff, it should be fine.

Thanks for showing me this today UA-cam - I’ve just got myself an X-T2! Brilliant video with some essential tips. My second camera will be my X-T100 which I still have and, oh look, it stitches the timelapse into a movie for you in camera!! Still I do want to try it with my X-T2 and put it together myself and try some pan and zoom tricks in post.

Yay! I've been looking forward to your next video and you didn't disappoint. I mean I don't even care about time lapse photography and I watched it all the way thru and totally enjoyed it! lol
Request: I'm sure you have future subjects planned, but would you add shooting video to the list (if you haven't already)?
Thanks for the 37ish minutes of education and entertainment! :)

hi Pal. thanks for your videos! One question, if you use the method lens twisting, is it possible to use a small aperture? *or even like this causes flickering?

Just come across. Another great video. Q. If I use a motorised slider, if I use its triggering function, do I leave XT3 time-lapse settings OFF? ( ie just set to manual and let slider do the triggering)

Chris, very good explanation, excellent video, I have the doubt if the manual shutter option on Fuji lenses (XF Zoom) is enough to be sure of working 100% manual?

I'm really looking forward to trying this. Question about beach sunsets -- have you tried a reverse grad filter at all? I've found that very useful for sunset stills.

A fantastic tutorial, I was actually wondering why the annoying flickering is still appearing if I am in all-manual but never thought about what you explained, that makes perfect sense. And now I do wonder for the "lens twist" if this also can be achieved if I put a very slight amount of thin tape where the connector between the lens and the mount is in order to "cut" that connection (in cases where the actual twist doesn't work? Also, another question is - if you still use the Auto WB, but then use Auto WB lock, will this be ok? :)
