We are excited that You are excited about your New Job and for the records well just don't buy too many especially if you ever had to move. In the meantime enjoy your new finds
Love your broad range of tastes and styles. Your collection is so diverse and far more interesting as a result! I’m a big fan of Days of Future Passed - the orchestral pieces are so vibrant 👍
I sooooooooo love The Coasters!!! So fun!!! I STILL haven't found my favorite song by them though! Besame Mucho!!! Look it up if you haven't heard it! Congrats on the new job!!!
Some great stuff there Sam. Nice that youre showing some Coasters. I love that doo wop type stuff. Reminds me of my childhood. My dad played a lot of that kind of stuff. I never think to look for that genre when Im record shopping. I should next time I go.
Congratulations on your new job Sam. I love Doo Wop, but I never know where to start regarding buying albums of the genre. The Crystals an all girl group of the day, comes up regularly on Google search. As well as The Coasters, The Platters and The Teenagers. I'm glad Doo Wop is getting the recognition it deserves especially with Pop artists like Meghan Trainor, currently at Number One on the Pop chart here in the UK right now.
Aloha Sam. Congratulations on your new job! I think I still have most of the Moody Blues record albums from 1967 to around 1972 those were the years I enjoy the most. Wow ! Mountain "Flowers of Evil" haven't heard that in a while. I remember getting that Isaac Hayes Shaft soundtrack to add to my collection in the early 1970's, My favorite was Hot Buttered Soul. I think i had or might still have all his early 70's record albums somewhere 🤔. Thanks again Sam for sharing your new additions. Mahalo Ed
Hot Buttered Soul will always be my favorite Isaac Hayes album, but The Shaft soundtrack just really encapsulates what was going on in music and culture (especially in the black community) during the 70's.
Hi Sam - Happy Thanksgiving ! & congratulations on a new job that you look forward to instead of dreading. I like that Mountain ⛰️ album & you can never go wrong with Isaac Hayes .. The Duke in Escape From New York 🗽
When I did radio as a teen I “burrowed” an album from my brothers collection called Ella sings Gershwin, not sure what happened to it since but I was in love with it, can’t seem to find it now.
Good luck with your new job! I really like the “Shaft” soundtrack, it’s one of those records that is good to put on when you can’t decide what you want to hear next. If you enjoy that Wes Montgomery record, I’m guessing that you probably would like George Benson’s 1970 album, “The Other Side Of Abbey Road” - but maybe you already own it? Worth having for the cover alone. Enjoyed the video..
Good to see Days of future passed and Shaft two of my favorite albums Talking about blackexploitation whether you find Sweet Sweet Bad Ass Song is one other masterpiece of this kind of music I enjoy your eclectic choices
Love the Dolphy album too Jeff. Maybe it's just me, i don't know, but there seems to be some ambivalent Monk-ian humour in here too. Some of the music has an almost lop-sided feel, like seeing someone with one long leg and one short leg walking down the road.. There's that great bit in Beard & Hat (you'll know where) where it sounds like Bobby Hutcherson hits a vibes note so hard (not just once, but a couple of consecutive times.. and it sound like he's hitting an old old piece of pipe instead.. It's a real clank.) Anyway, got so much going for it all the way through. And yes!.. never thought about that, but aspects akin to this album in Beefheart's tout Mask.. man oh man
"Going to secondhand stores and finding a little treasure … that meant more to me because it was more of stab in the dark … because you didn’t know if you were gonna be able to afford it and you don’t know really what you are looking for, and when you find it, it’s more special to you, rather than having a thousand dollars and going into a store like that just buying the whole store…" - Kurt Cobain Kurt was the reason I started playing as a kid, I would be honored with your good taste if you checked out my songs and left your thoughts as bread crumbs behind.
Congrats on the new job. I was doing the Fahey guitar video class at one point. Read his two books, extremely odd. I’d recommend Nick caves Death of Bunny Monroe over either but do prefer Faheys music
Short and sweet, yet you didn’t miss a beat. I didn’t mean for that to rhyme, but it’s still pretty neat 🙃 I agree with your “We get it, we know you can sing” annoyance with certain singers. Ask them to sing ‘Frosty The Snowman’ and we get … ♬ Fraaaaaa-ahhh-steyeeeeah ♬ THE ♬ snow-woe-woe-woe…♬ Yeah, um, no. My first Aretha album was “Spirit In The Dark”; nothing like what I had been exposed to beforehand. Definitely one of my favorites from her catalog. I don’t know if you’re like me and have Christmas “feel” type songs that you play instead of traditional ones during the holidays, but I’ve found those work better for me (minus Cassie Ramone’s “Christmas In Reno”) than the latter. If you do, maybe you could share them in an upcoming video or in your next ‘5 Songs I’m Obsessed With’ video? Also, I dig your Howard The Duck t-shirt. And, I think you’ll enjoy watching ’Shaft’. He’s a cooler version of Philip Marlowe. And with that, I’ll now shut my mouth.
I unfortunately don't have a lot of good memories surrounding Christmas and the fact that I've worked in retail for the last 5 years where they played the same 25 Christmas songs from Halloween to New Year's really made me want to shove a knife in my ear every time those songs came on. I get that there are a lot of people that really love and appreciate holiday music, but it just isn't my thing...
@@ts_vinyl Hey, I get it. Spoilers don’t only affect movies and tv shows, but seasons, occasions and even songs. Glad you didn’t shove that knife into your ear. Where would we be then? Congrats on the new job, btw.
Nice eclectic batch! I want to comment about Fahey. I play that album (religiously!) every Christmas. It's a tradition with me. When I was 15 or 16 I was in this hippie kinda bookstore in Hermosa Beach and heard this guitar music. I got up the nerve to ask the cool girl at the counter who it was. Fahey. I found one of his albums and never looked back. Enjoy the records!!
Great to see John Fahey's music still being appreciated. An unheralded giant of American music. If you like John's style of guitar check out Gwenifer Raymond.
Good to see Wes Montgomery and Issac Hayes in there. Some killer music. I’ve been getting into Wes’s music a lot lately and A Day In The Life is one of my favorites so far from him.
We are excited that You are excited about your New Job and for the records well just don't buy too many especially if you ever had to move. In the meantime enjoy your new finds
Love the Howard the Duck shirt!
Congratulations on the new job!! 👍....but most of all: FANTASTIC SHIRT!!!!!!!!!!! 😋
Haha thank you! I think out of all my t-shirts this is the one I always get the most compliments on

Sam, love Moody Blues. I don’t think they’ve done anything that I don’t like. Happy digging😊

Nice picks, Sam! Wes Montgomery shreds.
Congratulations! Job sounds great!
Good luck with the new job. Sounds exciting

Thanks David! Oh my god I completely forgot Isaac Hayes was in Escape From New York... I really need to watch that movie again

Hope you enjoyed your time off 😛🎶
Thank you, I'm definitely going to miss listening to records all day!
Congrats Sam.

Last track on the Shaft record is brilliant.

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
I grabbed up that Aretha a few months ago.. its good but it had a bunch of pops and clicks so traded it in...

Great picks, I"m a HUGE Fahey fan... love that lp, and most of his catalog.
Always love your eclectic approach to music. Enjoyed the video.

Great to see The Moody Blues getting some love. Was listening to Days of future Passed today, it’s a great album.
Congrats on the new job Sam! That sounds like such a great upgrade! Shaft is such a great and deep album. One I think everyone should own!
Thanks Trent! Totally agree with you on The Shaft soundtrack, a must have for any music collection!

Listen to "Trouble Man" by Marvin Gaye you may like that and the movie is interesting
