why do bbc used lego instead of pixels????
I quite liked the way they showed the speedo, the time and a map of the track on the timed lap back then. That was quite accurate, interesting and very telling.
That Jason daw me character didn't say a word during the whole thing!
Which pixel is the XTR?
THE QUALITY!!!!!! MY EYES!
Just another way of saying, "Don't upload videos to UA-cam at resolutions below 360p."
@@fairyball3929 This looks like 1p rather than 240p.
@@sukhdevr3489 If only UA-cam wasn't compressing videos like this back in 2007...
@@fairyball3929 First World problems haha.
The fat guy was only on for the first series, he was the used car expert if I remember right. He wasn't any fun he was just serious and didn't fit in at all (insert fat joke).
james may is a king...he used to do very old topgear reviews too (speaking about 1989 etc)
I wish they still gave you the telementry in the later episodes
i watched the first season, and you could notice the crowd grow episode by episode.
I love watching the old top gear episodes its a completly different show compared to the current top gear series and this was around 2003
Back in the days when James was fat and had a smart haircut.:)
He still is the secret 4th member of the Petshop Boys. :)
Seriously, stop nitpicking the video quality and just WATCH.
I do like having the speedo and map during the power lap.
@STAG162 I couldn't believe it when i watched the first season and saw them rounding the lap times to the nearest second. Kinda shows that they either didn't know much about how large an interval of time 1 full second is when it comes to racing cars...or they just didn't think the show would be on long enough for it to become a problem haha
in the 80's we had cathode ray tube TV's/Monitors, which was a pain, big ugly loud heavy things, that hummed, and flickered...but at least we could see peoples faces
the best bit about having a bike engine it means revs and more and then more revs
Oh look, a Westfield Pixel and a Pagani Pixel. Two of my favourite pixels.
Who said anything about HD? They had 480p then for sure, and they should have had at least 360p on these older one's. There is 2 other options on UA-cam before you get to HD.
i like the hud of the old top gear during the lap :P
This is from one of the first couple seasons. Perry McCarthy, Black Stig, was only on the show for 2 seasons or so
The decent wing and front spoiler make a lot of downforce for such a light car.
My neighbour had oneof these with the hayabusa engine in, never felt acceleration like it!
That pre James May chap did very good hand gestures & head shaking.
@Tallen1997 actually, the old top gear was originally hosted by Tiff Needell, who now co-hosts fifth gear.
Indeed, May would be proud!
Actually the first HD monitor was invented in the mid 1980's.
They just didn't have HD in UA-cam at the time.
Yeah thats true a limited slip dif would really be kick ass tho
To everyone complaining that they won't put the Ultima GTR on the show: They have a lot of people and car companies offering them cars to put on the track. Back then, they didn't have as many, so more cars like this were on. It's more about what they think the public wants. Lamborghinis, Zondas, Ferraris, ultra luxury cars, and then cars that everyday people might drive probably grab more attention according to their ratings or polls.
The 'fat dude' is Jason Dawe, the original third presenter of the modern Top Gear only seen in Season 1 (2002), before Capt. Slow jumped in (with his Bentley). He was the one who started off the 'best deals' segment of the show with Hamster, and May later kept on with (randomly) through Seasons 2&3.
How obvious was it that it's early Top Gear though - they were still rounding times to the nearest second and there were only 4 cars on the power lap board.
Not on UA-cam. We got 720p in 2009, afaik. I still remember when we got 360p, which was just named "HQ", which was ~2007-2008.
The "fat guy" is Jason Dawe. This is from current Top Gear's first season. He left before the second season and James May took his place. A great, great decision in my opinion.
That XTR is a SWEET car, I'd love to drive one.
or 1:10 if you consider the one they rule out because it couldnt go over sleeping policeman it was gunther or something, you can find it in topgear videos i think
But the Zonda was Richard's favorite car and he is so happy that is has been beaten.
Its not just about raw power, or how light it is, not even power to weight ratio. If you don't have the right transmission, the car cannot live up to its full potential. This car seems to do everything right. Westfield did a good job on it.
hammond has gone retro with the introductory music and clips for the car
You'd probably be suprised how heavy they are, nearly a tonne - light for a car but quite heavy compared to track day cars.
just wat i thought.. u r darn right
i love that pixel
It's nice to see Buddy Hackett found a new job.
Nice... its in HD!!!
Don't be ridiculous, I'm sure he knew that "HD" existed long before 2007. He's talking about on youtube. UA-cam didn't support anything other than 240p (240x320) at the time. It wasn't until 2008 that they added "HQ" (360x480).
@rabeandre2 Hang on, folks. This isn't the new guy, this is the old guy. He's a car dealer, and an expert on price ranges. The original Top Gear targeted car fans, more than just the general public, and this guy was around to give more information about good car deals. But, he was boring, and after the first season he was replaced.
Probably, yeah. He used to talk about used cars and deals in the first and second seasons, if I recall correctly.
James May cannot be replaced =)
Ah, thank you all for your comments answering the same question I had: Who is the, uh, prosperous looking chap and where is James "Oh Cock" May? Now we know. The guy on this one is as useful as the bench coach in "Bull Durham" whose only words in the whole movie were, I think, "right eyelid."
Oh really? they have them here in the UK too and I've seen it in Australia & NZ too :)
Gumpert Apollo is the car you mean. it was beaten in time by the maserati NC12 but that was also not allowed to stand due to being a race car.
@ashwintorphe How can you not see that this was uploaded 2007? They couldn't possibly have uploaded it in better quality.
Probably very good. Light as heck and a small engine.
Whos the jobba thing next to hamster
The guy that was a host before James came on series 2
jason dawe
Imagine how fast the Westfield would be if it had the Zonda's Merc AMG V12 engine instead of the 1.3L Hyabusa engine xD
Looks like a shortened version of a 1990s open top Le Mans prototype
dont eat the bloody car!!!! "but its fiberglassy goodness i cannot possibly resist"!
this was much much before May started. the first series of "New Top Gear"
look how few people are in the audience! lol
Jason Dawes Isn't dead, he hosts used car road show with penny maloney. He left because his expertise is in used cars and topgear wanted to focus on new cars and no longer have segments on buying used, ordinary cars.
@12enter12 its jason daw its from the first season he got replaced by may in the 2nd season.
For the first years after the renovation of the show he was the third presenter instead of James May
@marlo916 I can hardly believe now that the original Top Gear ran from 1977 to 2001 and was only 30 mins long.
Yea he was.
"His main part in the show was to present different bargains for cars, as opposed to the super car reviews and entertaining motoring challenges, which were done by the two other presenters, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond. James May replaced Jason as the third presenter in Top Gear's second post-relaunch series."
Jeremy's just using silent Jason as a prop to lean on, heh
He won a fan contest, check your facts
imagine if you had a turbocharged z14 engine in that. Although with something that light I bet it would just spin
Hmmmm- Mr Turbo built a Kawasaki ZX11 back in the day that topped 400 horsepower- That engine would fit nicely in a Westfield, I bet.
Which pixel is the car?
lol "XTR thats X, T..." "thankyou I can spell it"
That's Mike Brewer
brought to you in High Deformation
Westfield? Where I come from Westfield isn't a car - it's a shopping centre!
the westfield is the lightest and fastest vacuum cleaner I've ever seen!!!
The fact that James May isn't in this makes me a very sad panda. Which is exactly what the new guy looks like
old school top gear.
And to think Hammond eventually went on record saying a Zonda model was his favorite car.
Wow...James was different...
smiles at the camera......LOL
I want one now
I wish Top Gear had kept that telemetry.
i seriously couldn't see the gigantic red letter speedo.
@TheSuperpudding1 O yeah Elliotspear1 is from and lives in the UK.
Gotta love the Bill Cosby Show theme music...
@Flyboy207 "More Americans are becoming overweight or obese, exercising less, and eating unhealthy foods.
That’s the finding of the latest Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index, which shows that 63.1% of adults in the U.S. were either overweight or obese in 2009."
looks like a car from the 24H of Le Mans. lol.
Dude.... That thing looks like a Le Mans prototype that should be in Forza Motorsport.
he is from the first series
@KarriKoivusalo
It has the bike clutch and the bike transmission! It even has got the chain-drive!
5:05 Why they stop putting the track and the speed on the screen... I really dig it🤠😄🤟🙌👌👏
I liked it too. Reminded me of Gran Turismo when you watched a replay. haha
one of the first 3 presentors when topgear came back and thank god they got rid of that fucking mute
as said by the tall bloke in the ZR1 episode "Well done fat man from kentucky!!!"
It isn't always about who's faster. To be better then a Pagani, you also have to have the styling/beauty and luxury comforts. Something that this WestField lacks. You might aswell go out and buy a Suzuki Hayabusa in my opinion.
The third guy didn't say ANYTHING that whole time if I am correct... he just follows them around nodding and agreeing. Thank God for James May (even though he's terribly slow)
This was uploaded in 2007...
What do you expect? They didn't have HD in 2007.
My guess would be that he is the show's funniest writer.
when was this aired?
its so funny to see how much better the music has gotten; this has the soundtrack from a porn video while the new ones have epic john williams-esque symphonies raging while they drive
@mukakta
That was the new Zonda at the time, remember, this episode is like 9 years old.
Gran Turismo music FTW.
@rabeandre2 It's a video from the firsth season of the new top gear from 2000 year ? or maybe older... captain slow was from the beginning of the 2nd season and he will still be in top gear :)
i agree
Love how Hammond says garage =) im not british ftw!
Good quality clip Beeb, I can barely make out Clarksons hideous curly mop!!!
