Nice work! Motivated me to look at my own taxable accounts in this way and it was like... 2%

Just starting the video.. but definitely have a question… a job opportunity came up and they have locations all over.. one is in key west.. and that sounds awesome.. but i know the cost of living is high.. can you guys tell me anything else about life there? Can i go to the beach most days? I see housing is expensive. Would love to hear anything you would like to say about key west

Hey! Yes totally happy to shed light here :) So Key West hands down is an incredible place and we loved it, but we left because it was limiting for us despite both working remote. Housing is going to be the hardest part of living there, it's insanely expensive for what you get. You can get cheaper places up the keys, but I would rather live in Stock Island/Key West area where all you need is a scooter to commute, anything more north you will need a car. That being said, proximity to Key West is what is going to get you access to beaches. We realistically went once every 1-2 weeks. The beaches are okay, they are not natural. They import sand from Miami since we are naturally all limestone. So I would set your expectations that the beaches are not the greatest, but definitely nice! Also, downtown life can be dangerous for some as there is no shortage of happy hours which CAN be fun, but I have also seen many turn into alcoholics given we are the drunkest county in Florida; so have fun, but be responsible. The ocean is great and gorgeous, but you need a friend with a boat to access, please don't buy a boat because that's where all of your paycheck will go hahaha. Groceries are more expensive as well as overall cost of living, but I would say avocados are $2/ea, watermelons $10/ea to give you an idea. Gas has been over $4+ a gallon for the past 3 months with all of the craziness. Gym offerings are pretty bad if you're used to more mainstream ones, the most popular is BodyZone which used to have time limits of 20 minutes on their treadmills since they're limited, this may have changed but just to give you an idea - the cheapest membership will probably be $60/month with no guest privileges. There are no targets/walmart/costco/ major department stores. Overall, Key West is a limiting, expensive tourist town, BUT living there you have daily access to beaches and oceans that people travel across the world for - up to you. I (Gab) spent 20+ years being born and raised and coming back two years after college and don't regret it, but the two years of adulthood there was enough for me and now I visit. Let me know if you'd like anymore insight!

@@gabandbren wow Thank you for the long detailed reply! Thats so helpful and interesting seeing that insight and information. Wow to the price of watermelons. But I did find your channel because Im also interested in the FIRE movement.. if i get the job there are also possibilities of getting offered a location in pensacola, orlando, and panama city.. or even somewhere in the midwest where I live now. But would be a nice chance to move to florida and enjoy the sun

@@TheCollegeMuscle Of course! I'd say pick one of the more affordable Florida locations like Orlando or Pensacola and then you can use some of the money you saved to make a trip to Key West! Orlando is super affordable, but if you're looking for more beach vibe I'd check out Pensacola!
