I played & replayed Imperium Romanum II many, many times. It's a fantastic game (my favourite scenarios were the Dacian Wars). Thanks for the unboxing video - I have to admit I'm tempted!
Wow! What a gorgeous monster of a game!!! Makes Pax Romana from GMT look like "Holdfast: Roman Empire" :). I must have it and will acquire someday (along with the needed table space).
Difficult to say, but I would imagine just the rules wouldn't suffice, because they expanded the game to three maps which changes distances and geography.
Potentially, yes. It might be a few months whilst I'm renovating my basement as the kitchen table is barely big enough the maps which makes filming a little unweidly.
Thanks for the review. But I noted that as you showed us the third map and ran your hand over the hexes from Armenia to Arabia, you said that it was Albania. No, Albania would have been on the second map. Since I am interested in the Byzantine Empire era, I wonder what the dates are for the last scenarios, would any go to as late as the 500s or 600s?
Whoops, must have been reading it wrong upside down! As to the scenarios, there is a single scenario in that time frame; 622-629 "Heraclius and the last Persian War" The other 40 scenarios are all mid 500 or earlier.
Does anyone know if this will be released more broadly to retail in a few months (i.e., to major sellers such as Miniature Market, Coolstuff Inc., or others) where the price tag might be a tad lower? With shipping, ordering from the Decision Games website puts this at > $160 dollars for me.
@@tomhannah3825 most maps are 22 x 34 inches. A lot only use one map, but there are plenty that use two together. I feel like there aren't a huge number that use more than two, but you will probably find a game you really want that does. GMT games is coming out with a game which takes place around Stalingrad, I think it has 3 maps and the way they fit together I'm planning on buying two folding tables the same height for it.
Tom Hannah The Decision Games website shows three maps, which Alexander showed, at 22x34inch each, so 2 x 3 ft each. 6ft x 3ft table just fits the maps if I did that right, assuming they connect on the 3ft side. You’ d probably want a bigger table than that. Also this seems like a monster of a game. I’d love to play but I’m relatively new to the hobby and pacing myself, which puts this game beyond me currently. Your prior experience should help I would think.

Thanks for shrinkrip, v.interesting. Can’t wait for review.
Also, another Top 10 idea. What are your Top 10 “lifetime” games? Replay ability that you see for a LONG time.
thats a big map, what type of paper was it printed on?
I have Imperium Romanum II. Do I need the new map and counters to play this one? Or do I just need the new rules?

Any chance of one of the small intros scenarios being shown as a play through please ??

Uh-Oh!!
A DG game!!

Thanks for this shrink rip Alexander. Because of this, I purchased Imperium Romanum II off BGG.

I Would expect it, as those places have DG's other titles, but couldn't guess at a time frame.
Anyone suggest other great Rome or Byzantium war games?
My table is about 3 inches too short for all the maps,
So I'm about to get back into the hobby after many years away - so how big a table should I buy? How big are the maps now? Thank you!
These are 22 x 34 inch maps, and they line up so that the map is 34 x 66 inches, give or take.

Thank you all for the info! Now I can go to Walmart and look at tables.
Hey, everyone. DG doesn’t say but the Geek says that it’s playable solo. Any truth to that?
Yes, very highly solo capacity. No hidden information or anything, just play both sides to best ability.
40 scenarios.....how much you wanna bet most won't crack more than four or five...if that!
of those 40 odd scenarios like 37 require all three maps, and a ton of time, so yeah..
You're still here? Pitty, given how many gamers actually know how to unbox a game.
