I have already made a short comment detailing a theory, however I would like to try to make a fully fledged take on the song. I hope it makes sense, haha Let's start with the beginning. "You say no, but you say you love me I can't keep up You're the one who took your leave wait, is it your brain that really left?" The girl, let's call her miku to simplify, seems tempted to pick the apples that appear in the beginning of the video. Though this doesn't relate to the lyrics, I think this symbolizes how Miku is entranced by the redness of the apples, it will make sense in the second verse, so keep this in mind. The lyrics mention someone leaving. If we see the apple representing as a person miku was in a relationship with, we can pull things together. Miku probably wanted something (maybe she wanted to make him copy her bad habits such as smoking as seen in the pv) from her partner but was then denied. Because of this she asks herself, "if he loves me then why won't he agree?". I guess from this, the two split up. "You make me laugh with your "sorry", serves you right always self-centered. On a different note, your tear-stained face, it kinda tickles me the right way" From this, I guess the person wanted her back after the break up. In the scene during this part, an apple rolls off a ledge or table towards Miku. I guess you can say this is the partner wanting her back. I also notices how in the beginning, the apple Miku picked was red-yellow, and now it's all red. That will again, come to play in the second verse. So the apple splats onto the ground and Miku smiles and does the thing with her hands. Because of the satisfaction of seeing her partner come crawling back to her, (Making her think she was doing no harm, thus being the 'good' person in the relationship), Miku probably gets back together with him. "No more, not any more, you should really stop, No more, not any more, I'd get so ripe I just can't" I guess we can imagine her partner saying the first two lines at the start, begging Miku to stop with her self-destructive habits, and Miku saying the last line "I just can't" In this scene, Miku is pouring honey onto some pancakes with apples on top, after some thought, I see the honey as her acting sweet again towards her partner since they got back together. "Poison check that love, mmm tasty, yummy Spine shivering sweetness, I wanna feel it, I can’t forget that flavor Every time I bite into it, it disappears, just like love" We see many shots of Miku eating apples, as well as pouring more honey happily. She seems to like the relationship they have now that her partner has seemingly changed for her. But in the last line of the part above, she seems like she wants more from him. "For an illusion, it sure feels real, I can’t forget that flavor You must be an apple, red here, red there, red everywhere You’re such a fool" The illusion part comes into play in the second verse, but also, when she takes one of the slices of apple from the pancake in the scene when these lyrics play, she turns her hand around only to find something else. Though I have no idea what the thing is, I think this is the time where Miku starts to question wether her partner really changed his ways for her. So, the thing she held in her hand was a tile from Mahjong. I do not know exactly what it means, so I really hope that a fellow commenter could help with this imagery if they could! Part 2 After the first chorus, after the credits pages, we see the page with the title Poison Apple. This makes sense in the next few scenes. "Pretending you’ve changed, negotiating, you never learn, do you? You’re see-through, your loneliness is so obvious, kinda pathetic" So, remember what I said about the apple color being important? Well, in this scene, Miku is seen peeling an apple with a pretty unsatisfied look on her face. In the chorus, she mentions the color red being here, there, and everywhere. When she peels the apple she finds the color yellow. In the beginning of the song, the apples she first picks are red, fading to yellow at the bottom. I think this symbolizes that Miku realized the guy was still the same behind the 'illusion of red' he put on to please her. on the inside, he's still the same person. And with that, she calls him pathetic, since she believes he never loved her at all for pretending to like and copy her self-destructive behavior. "That painful cavity, feels better with a cigar Bad for me, mixing my whimpers with the smoke, puff puff Reach tanyao in a mental pinch, will I win that hidden dora? But somehow I still can’t win, I just keep sliding" This verse is quite a mystery to me since I am not that familiar with mahjong, however, I hope that someone more knowledgable on this topic could eventually solve the mystery that I wasn't able to. "No more, not any more, you really should stop No more, not any more, I’d get so ripe" In this verse, instead of pouring honey, she pours a black liquid over the apple, and by the end of the verse, a sound of someone biting an apple is heard. With the sound, a black apple rolls on the ground, now with a bite. on the inside of the apple, it's red. This could symbolize how she tried to manipulate her partner to make him the illusion he tried to put up. To make him her desired person.
Part 3 "Poison check that love, mmm tasty, yummy Spine shivering sweetness, I wanna feel it, I can’t forget that flavor Every time I bite into it, it disappears, just like love For an illusion, it sure feels real, I can’t forget that flavor You must be an apple, red here, red there, red everywhere" You can see Miku trying to make that black liquid for the apple through trial and error, as seen through the apples in the room she's in multiply as time progresses. Some sort of like experiment. But when she tries to touch the apple, the apple suddenly explodes. "I can tell without tasting, it’s gross, so gross Even if I peel away the skin of regret, romance with you has no flavor Hey, a thought! Why don’t you have someone else eat it?" AKA the verse where Miku realizes she's messed up big time. Basically, she realizes she made a poison apple. This symbolizes how her partner has made a turn for the worst with the self destructive habits she made him take up. She regrets doing this, but tries to make herself feel better by thinking that his love was flavorless in the first place or thinking that maybe she can push the guilt onto her partner like before ("Hey, a thought! Why don’t you have someone else eat it?"). "So long memories, sober, romance with you has no flavor I must be an apple too, redder here, redder there, redder everywhere I’m such a fool" In this verse she holds the apple up to the sky, as if about to take a bite out of it, I presume. I think here, she tries to accept that the relationship was dying, and tries to accept that she was wrong, stating she too, was an apple and a fool for putting up illusions of love behind her true intentions. In the end she's left in an empty room with only more of the poison apples (and the tiles I think?) I guess that marks the end of this Miku's relationship. She closes the book, putting an end to therelationship and story. Leaving the ending pretty much up to interpretation. This is just my little tale on this, though I do have to say it's not actually complete with all the other imagery I wasn't able to pick apart. I hope I see more theories on this song since it's my favorite Deco*27 song as of now! I hope we continue hearing bangers like this along with these wonderful visuals the animation team makes.
God, the song is amazing, but can we PLEASE talk about the animation? Absolute eye candy, holy crap. My favourite part’s got to be the first chorus, it’s just so crisp and smooth and a joy to look at. The liquids are amazing too, they look SO GOOD. Year after year, DECO sticks with Vocaloid, only sometimes leaving it; but he always comes back. That's why I appreciate him. He also never gives up, even when faced with a lot of criticism. He truly is THE legend of Vocaloid, seeing as the others have left. Not saying that that's a bad thing! Some people move on with their lives... or lose them. Around the chorus, (0:48) the song's lyrics say "For an illusion it sure feels real. I can't forget the flavor. You must be an apple ". Followed by "red here, red there, red everywhere" then in the next verse, she's seen peeling an apple with the lyrics "Pretending you've changed, negotiating, you never learn do you? You're see through, your loneliness is so obvious, kinda pathetic" I believe this means that the red skin of the apple is an illusion since the inside of the apple is yellow. The girl peels the apple, stating the apple is see through and it's pretending it changed, represented by how she peels the red skin away (the illusion), revealing the yellow. This could be her realizing that behind the illusion of red, the person was lesser than she expected maybe? I am not sure, but I think it means something. After all, when she first sees the apples, she seems transfixed on how the apples looked. Then at 1:39, after she coats the apple in black, there's a sound of someone biting an apple with the image on screen showing the black apple bitten, the inside red. I think this means she changed the apple some way to make the insides red as she desired, however, she did it at the cost of painting the apple with the skin of regret as mentioned in the lyrics at 2:04 . At 2:02 , the lyrics state that "I can tell without tasting, it's gross, it's so gross" . I think it's because she realizes the apple she made is a poison apple as pointed out by the page at 1:06 . I think that represents she tried to change this person to make him the illusion she saw and liked. However, in the end she regrets it as things probably fall apart between them as seen in the last chorus. She also states she is an apple too at the end of the song, and I guess that means she realizes that she too dons the illusion of someone who liked this man, only to hold unsatisfaction on the inside for him. Or it could be the illusion of health (as seen with her obsession with apples. Apples are kinda a symbol of good health) and her actual unhealthy vices she hides behind the illusion like her smoking. Again, just a theory I made on some things. I don't really get the syrup imagery around the 1st verse and chorus. Apples have many meanings after all, so this whole essay probably isn't the case of this song. I look forward to other explanations and theories soon!

Awesome theory! Sorry for butting in, but I want to add in on my theory on the song meaning too. I think this song may be about addiction. Or perhaps, falling in love with someone with an addiction? Cause the song does refer to someone else in the lyrics, and mentions "romance" at the end. The syrup may be that satisfaction of the addiction, and perhaps it turns black because it's become corrupted in the end it affects someone's life to the point that it's dertimental. Also, the "block"/"card" that the girl flips over may be an allegory for gambling. It does mention something about luck in 1:26. When she bites the apple/black apple, it represents indulging in the addiction: it tastes sweet, and you want "more" and "more". For the "redder here, redder there" part, it may signify the addiction taking over her life. "Painting with the skin of regret" could mean that she know it's gone too far (2:02's "it's so gross) but she's adopted that mentatlity of "no turning back" and she still gives in to the addiction at the end. (This entire section could also refer to the "love interest" btw) Regarding your part about the illusion, I think it could apply as well. Maybe the girl has the illusion of getting better and battling the issue? Maybe it's her hope in herself/love interest that is the illusion. Lot of interesting points to make here! I'd like to draw your attention to the chorus ending line (0:58 You're/I'm such an idiot). The singer may (at first) be saying that the person in addiction is an "idiot" for being stuck in this struggle in the first place, but specifically at the end they call themselves the idiot. Perhaps they're thinking something like "I'm dumb for not realizing this illusion wouldn't last" or "I'm dumb for being attached to the person in addiction". I definitely sense some deeper meaning in those 2 lines, but I'm not too sure. That's basically my take on this. I'm by no means good at this, so take my word with a grain of salt. There's a bunch of themes running around in this song that are quite hard to grasp, but I'm certain at least a few points in your theory are correct, since they have evidence backing it up. Sorry again for butting in your reply section, but I hope this at least made someone think about the meaning of this song!

Okay i haven't seen any English interpretation comments so here: This is a song about how toxicity rubs off on other people. She just got out of a relationship that was very toxic, yet there was a certain sweetness (love-bombing or something) that she could not replicate in her other relationships, which were actually healthy and sweet. She then becomes the toxic person in that relationship so she can recreate the flavor. Reply with any misconceptions, addons, or agreements!

最近のDECO*27さんの曲は短い時間なのに何かしらの愛を表現したメロディーが詰め込まれてて全部聞き応えがある。

DECO*27さんって昔から「愛」に関する曲を結構作ってるけど全部違った感じの音で表現できるの凄すぎる。どの曲もオシャレで中毒性もあって最高です👍
I have already made a short comment detailing a theory, however I would like to try to make a fully fledged take on the song. I hope it makes sense, haha
Let's start with the beginning.
"You say no, but you say you love me
I can't keep up
You're the one who took your leave
wait, is it your brain that really left?"
The girl, let's call her miku to simplify, seems tempted to pick the apples that appear in the beginning of the video. Though this doesn't relate to the lyrics, I think this symbolizes how Miku is entranced by the redness of the apples, it will make sense in the second verse, so keep this in mind. The lyrics mention someone leaving. If we see the apple representing as a person miku was in a relationship with, we can pull things together. Miku probably wanted something (maybe she wanted to make him copy her bad habits such as smoking as seen in the pv) from her partner but was then denied. Because of this she asks herself, "if he loves me then why won't he agree?". I guess from this, the two split up.

On a different note, your tear-stained face,
it kinda tickles me the right way"
From this, I guess the person wanted her back after the break up. In the scene during this part, an apple rolls off a ledge or table towards Miku. I guess you can say this is the partner wanting her back. I also notices how in the beginning, the apple Miku picked was red-yellow, and now it's all red. That will again, come to play in the second verse. So the apple splats onto the ground and Miku smiles and does the thing with her hands. Because of the satisfaction of seeing her partner come crawling back to her, (Making her think she was doing no harm, thus being the 'good' person in the relationship), Miku probably gets back together with him.

I guess we can imagine her partner saying the first two lines at the start, begging Miku to stop with her self-destructive habits, and Miku saying the last line "I just can't" In this scene, Miku is pouring honey onto some pancakes with apples on top, after some thought, I see the honey as her acting sweet again towards her partner since they got back together.
"Poison check that love, mmm tasty, yummy

We see many shots of Miku eating apples, as well as pouring more honey happily. She seems to like the relationship they have now that her partner has seemingly changed for her. But in the last line of the part above, she seems like she wants more from him.

You must be an apple, red here, red there, red everywhere
You’re such a fool"
The illusion part comes into play in the second verse, but also, when she takes one of the slices of apple from the pancake in the scene when these lyrics play, she turns her hand around only to find something else. Though I have no idea what the thing is, I think this is the time where Miku starts to question wether her partner really changed his ways for her.
So, the thing she held in her hand was a tile from Mahjong. I do not know exactly what it means, so I really hope that a fellow commenter could help with this imagery if they could!

After the first chorus, after the credits pages, we see the page with the title Poison Apple. This makes sense in the next few scenes.

So, remember what I said about the apple color being important? Well, in this scene, Miku is seen peeling an apple with a pretty unsatisfied look on her face. In the chorus, she mentions the color red being here, there, and everywhere. When she peels the apple she finds the color yellow. In the beginning of the song, the apples she first picks are red, fading to yellow at the bottom. I think this symbolizes that Miku realized the guy was still the same behind the 'illusion of red' he put on to please her. on the inside, he's still the same person. And with that, she calls him pathetic, since she believes he never loved her at all for pretending to like and copy her self-destructive behavior.

This verse is quite a mystery to me since I am not that familiar with mahjong, however, I hope that someone more knowledgable on this topic could eventually solve the mystery that I wasn't able to.

In this verse, instead of pouring honey, she pours a black liquid over the apple, and by the end of the verse, a sound of someone biting an apple is heard. With the sound, a black apple rolls on the ground, now with a bite. on the inside of the apple, it's red. This could symbolize how she tried to manipulate her partner to make him the illusion he tried to put up. To make him her desired person.

You can see Miku trying to make that black liquid for the apple through trial and error, as seen through the apples in the room she's in multiply as time progresses. Some sort of like experiment. But when she tries to touch the apple, the apple suddenly explodes.
"I can tell without tasting, it’s gross, so gross
Even if I peel away the skin of regret,
romance with you has no flavor
Hey, a thought! Why don’t you have someone else eat it?"
AKA the verse where Miku realizes she's messed up big time. Basically, she realizes she made a poison apple. This symbolizes how her partner has made a turn for the worst with the self destructive habits she made him take up. She regrets doing this, but tries to make herself feel better by thinking that his love was flavorless in the first place or thinking that maybe she can push the guilt onto her partner like before ("Hey, a thought! Why don’t you have someone else eat it?").
"So long memories, sober,
romance with you has no flavor
I must be an apple too, redder here, redder there, redder everywhere
I’m such a fool"
In this verse she holds the apple up to the sky, as if about to take a bite out of it, I presume. I think here, she tries to accept that the relationship was dying, and tries to accept that she was wrong, stating she too, was an apple and a fool for putting up illusions of love behind her true intentions. In the end she's left in an empty room with only more of the poison apples (and the tiles I think?)
I guess that marks the end of this Miku's relationship. She closes the book, putting an end to therelationship and story. Leaving the ending pretty much up to interpretation.
This is just my little tale on this, though I do have to say it's not actually complete with all the other imagery I wasn't able to pick apart. I hope I see more theories on this song since it's my favorite Deco*27 song as of now! I hope we continue hearing bangers like this along with these wonderful visuals the animation team makes.

God, the song is amazing, but can we PLEASE talk about the animation? Absolute eye candy, holy crap. My favourite part’s got to be the first chorus, it’s just so crisp and smooth and a joy to look at. The liquids are amazing too, they look SO GOOD. Year after year, DECO sticks with Vocaloid, only sometimes leaving it; but he always comes back. That's why I appreciate him.
He also never gives up, even when faced with a lot of criticism. He truly is THE legend of Vocaloid, seeing as the others have left. Not saying that that's a bad thing! Some people move on with their lives... or lose them. But the fact that DECO *chose* to move on with his life ALONG SIDE Vocaloid, like what producers Pinocchio-P and Cosmo-P have done... truly just sticks with me.

This is a banger! A part of me wonders what this song means with the apple imagery and the cigarettes. Again, another song I can enjoy on repeat. Thank you, Deco*27! Keep up the great work!

Theory time!
Around the chorus, (0:48) the song's lyrics say "For an illusion it sure feels real. I can't forget the flavor. You must be an apple ". Followed by "red here, red there, red everywhere"
then in the next verse, she's seen peeling an apple with the lyrics "Pretending you've changed, negotiating, you never learn do you? You're see through, your loneliness is so obvious, kinda pathetic" I believe this means that the red skin of the apple is an illusion since the inside of the apple is yellow. The girl peels the apple, stating the apple is see through and it's pretending it changed, represented by how she peels the red skin away (the illusion), revealing the yellow. This could be her realizing that behind the illusion of red, the person was lesser than she expected maybe? I am not sure, but I think it means something. After all, when she first sees the apples, she seems transfixed on how the apples looked.
Then at 1:39, after she coats the apple in black, there's a sound of someone biting an apple with the image on screen showing the black apple bitten, the inside red. I think this means she changed the apple some way to make the insides red as she desired, however, she did it at the cost of painting the apple with the skin of regret as mentioned in the lyrics at 2:04 . At 2:02 , the lyrics state that "I can tell without tasting, it's gross, it's so gross" . I think it's because she realizes the apple she made is a poison apple as pointed out by the page at 1:06 .
I think that represents she tried to change this person to make him the illusion she saw and liked. However, in the end she regrets it as things probably fall apart between them as seen in the last chorus. She also states she is an apple too at the end of the song, and I guess that means she realizes that she too dons the illusion of someone who liked this man, only to hold unsatisfaction on the inside for him. Or it could be the illusion of health (as seen with her obsession with apples. Apples are kinda a symbol of good health) and her actual unhealthy vices she hides behind the illusion like her smoking.
Again, just a theory I made on some things. I don't really get the syrup imagery around the 1st verse and chorus. Apples have many meanings after all, so this whole essay probably isn't the case of this song. I look forward to other explanations and theories soon!

Awesome theory! Sorry for butting in, but I want to add in on my theory on the song meaning too.
I think this song may be about addiction. Or perhaps, falling in love with someone with an addiction? Cause the song does refer to someone else in the lyrics, and mentions "romance" at the end.
The syrup may be that satisfaction of the addiction, and perhaps it turns black because it's become corrupted in the end it affects someone's life to the point that it's dertimental. Also, the "block"/"card" that the girl flips over may be an allegory for gambling. It does mention something about luck in 1:26.
When she bites the apple/black apple, it represents indulging in the addiction: it tastes sweet, and you want "more" and "more". For the "redder here, redder there" part, it may signify the addiction taking over her life. "Painting with the skin of regret" could mean that she know it's gone too far (2:02's "it's so gross) but she's adopted that mentatlity of "no turning back" and she still gives in to the addiction at the end.
(This entire section could also refer to the "love interest" btw)
Regarding your part about the illusion, I think it could apply as well. Maybe the girl has the illusion of getting better and battling the issue? Maybe it's her hope in herself/love interest that is the illusion. Lot of interesting points to make here!
I'd like to draw your attention to the chorus ending line (0:58 You're/I'm such an idiot). The singer may (at first) be saying that the person in addiction is an "idiot" for being stuck in this struggle in the first place, but specifically at the end they call themselves the idiot. Perhaps they're thinking something like "I'm dumb for not realizing this illusion wouldn't last" or "I'm dumb for being attached to the person in addiction". I definitely sense some deeper meaning in those 2 lines, but I'm not too sure.
That's basically my take on this. I'm by no means good at this, so take my word with a grain of salt. There's a bunch of themes running around in this song that are quite hard to grasp, but I'm certain at least a few points in your theory are correct, since they have evidence backing it up.

I just absolutely adore Miku's design in this PV and the animation is amazingly exquisite!
10年前、小学生の時、初音ミクをDECO*27さんのモザイクロールという歌で知りましたが、聞いた瞬間、未知の新世界に出会った感情がまだ生々しいです。 最初は音声合成エンジンの歌が不慣れで距離感が感じられたが、忘れようとしてもぐるぐる回るメロディーに結局ボーカロイドの歌を探して毎日繰り返し聞いた記憶があります。 10年が経った今も相変わらず名実共に良い曲を作ってくださるDECO*27さんに心より感謝申し上げます。 現在は多様なプロデューサーの方々のボーカロイドの歌がありますが、それでも私はDECO*27さんの歌にだけ心臓がドキドキします。 DECO*27さんの歌に込められたジョンスとメロディー、リズムすべてが欠かせません。 またDECO*27さんが調教するミクはどんなに魅力的でかわいいか。 このアンサンブルが大好きです。 いつも応援しています。 私の心の中の1位はいつもDECO*27さんです。 本当に大好きです。 いつも元気で多様な作品を末永く活動してください。
沙花叉コーラス！
もちろんDECO*27さんが作った曲ではあるんだけど、どこか沙花叉の雰囲気も感じる歌詞ですね！
最初から癖になるリズムで好きです、、、
言い表せないくらい好きだしクロエちゃんがコーラスだし、最高、
難しい横文字とかもあまり無くて、日常会話とかで使うような簡単な言葉だけでこんな複雑な感情を表現できるの本当に凄いと思う...だからデコさんの歌には共感する人が多いのかな...
DECOさんの曲は変に人の耳に残してやろう感がないからこそ1発で好きっ！って感じにならないから、もう1回聞こうってなるから結局ハマる。スルメ曲が多いのはたすかる
2分27秒なのちゃんと凝ってるし2分でこの満足度はやはり最高
｢寂しいのが透けていてよ｣っていう歌詞が女王様感あってだいすき...
