I met Laura Dern on the set of Citizen Ruth and was starstruck, even though she is one of the most sincere, nicest actors I've ever met. I felt the same way when I met Mark Hamill. It thrills me that they now share one of my most beloved stories from my childhood.
I'm more of a director fan than an actor fan - but Laura Dern in Inland Empire is probably the greatest acting achievement in film. Get chills thinking about it.
Lots of people say that about her performance in that film. I haven't seen it, but I'm wondering what specific scene or specific aspects are cited as being the reason why it is so good. I know that she plays two characters but are there any other reasons why she is so celebrated in that film?
Hopingover Leavesinfall You say all she does is play two characters” like it’s easy; that’s like the hardest job in acting! You have to construct two completely different sets of physical choices from scratch, creating totally distinct characters with different psychologies and different physicalities.
AdamC a film script from the 40s, which never finished filming because the actors and crew involved starting mysteriously dying off as it was being filmed, is made in the present; the lead actress slowly begins to fade between different dimensions and realities.
Apparently they had to talk to Ewan McGreggor during filming the Phantom Menace because he kept making lightsaber noises during his fight scenes. So she's in good company.
I've never seen anyone mention this, but Jon Batiste always knocks it out of the park with his accompaniment to each guest's appearances, like playing "Laura" for Laura. Amazing!
Melanie Rattansen His body of work never seizes to amaze. One of the last great composers of Golden Age Hollywood. David Raksin is who "Laura" came from. It's one of my favorite noir movie themes.
Yes absolutely! I think sometimes the guests themselves definitely notice, you see the surprise/excitement on their face when they realize the entry song has been tailored to them and they thank the band.
Because the people making star wars movies now don't know anything about star wars and think the core fanbase is a bunch of stupid smelly misogynistic men.
Loved her on 'Ramblin Rose'. For a number of reasons. One scene imperticular I won't say you just have to checkout it out. It was a coming of age tale for me.
She is NOT a good female lead, as JOE rogan said, she seems like a sjw unrealistically controlling men.. unlike aliens.. watch 'Joe Rogan on Forced Diversity in Star Wars'
she is one of my favorites. she's in EVERYTHING. i've loved her with david lynch forever. a really good lesser known role from her was HBO's enlightned. show was astounding.
She is was amazing in little big lies, her categorie is so hard to pick the winner i am rooting for her Judy Davis(Feud)Regina King(American Crime)Jackie Hoffman(Feud)Michelle Pfeiffer(The Wizard of Lies)Her co star Shailene WoodleyBig Little Lies
No shame in making 'pew' sounds. Ewan McGregor confessed to making light sabre sounds when he started working on the prequels. The sound guys must be used to it by now. Apparently Sylvester Stallone made sounds when he filmed Rocky too.
Are you trolling or our you actually serious? I'm pretty sure you are trolling in which case you are funny but if you are serious, I'll answer that too... Most people appreciate an unconventional compliment, like nice shoulders. It's a very non-sexual part of the body. Also men are very visual creatures. If you were a man you would understand. It's a biology. Also, probably the least creepiest complimentary comments you'll find on UA-cam. *"In this case you chose to point out the only thing not covered by clothes"* What's wrong with that? If someone had nice arms or hands, you would say they were nice arms or hands. Does it mater if there's material covering it or not? Are you from the 1700's or are you just acting like you have the IQ of someone from the 1700's for a role your "researching." I'm tired. Brain no working.
Anybody else a fan of her first film? Ladies and gentlemen, the fabulous stains! It's my all time favorite film since I got to see it as a young shit kicker

Charlock this makes me happy.

Tj La what is the film about?
AMEN

Thanks for all the love and support. seriously blown away by the love from all you.thank you
Her smile could light up a blackhole. Wonderful person and great actress.
Thanks for the love and support I appreciate you
She shouldn't feel bad about going "pew pew," as Ewan made lightsaber noises when HE was doing Obi-wan.
STNeish not in the final cut
I've never seen anyone mention this, but Jon Batiste always knocks it out of the park with his accompaniment to each guest's appearances, like playing "Laura" for Laura. Amazing!
Mickey Truong love Bernard Hermann !

Laura Dern is unbelievably charming.

@@lauradern6566 I have no idea if you’re the real Laura Dern but if you are, thank you so much for all your wonderful work.
@@michaelrowand898 you are welcome
One of the greatest actress ever. Legendary.
This woman walked with dinosaurs and basically says Colbert is the best thing on the planet. Quiet a compliment.
Öööö Keep telling yourself that.
Laura Dern is amazing, she's such a fantastic actor and person. Can't wait to see her in Episode VIII.
She has aged very well. Has it really been 24 years since Jurassic Park ?!
I had a huge crush on her in Wild At Heart . .
dopamining didnt we all?
I LOVED her on Big Little Lies!!!! Best show this year!!
It's refreshing to see an American Celebrity's face that isn't plastic.
Such an incredible actor! Loving her in Twin Peaks right now
I love how she says "I have a space gun in my hands" and Stephen just quietly corrects her
She's so humble ♥️
These two have good chemistry, it would be fun to see them act together.
I'm not surprised she loves playing complicated characters, being such a great character actor.
She's so gracious! What a lady
Pffft I've eaten 17 ice cream cones without throwing up too.
Pwnzworth you should be an actor, apparently..
so she actually went "Pew pew pew " awesome put that on the dvd bloopers and why don't the star wars movies have a commentary ?
Because the people making star wars movies now don't know anything about star wars and think the core fanbase is a bunch of stupid smelly misogynistic men.
John Batiste is playing the 1944 film noir theme from "Laura" when she walks in!!!! This is why Colbert is the best late nite show on TV!!
I love her voice
Laura Dern has always been quality smash material.
She's so upbeat I love it
He mentioned Citizen Ruth! Such a great film.
She is so charming and beautiful. She deserves all the best. Blue velvet was my first sight of her.
I always had a crush on that woman, one of the best actresses out there ^^
Smile thanks for the love 😘
I was just waiting for her to start talking about Paleobotany...
We are with you Laura. We love Stephen too!
*Jurassic Park Crush Number 1*
I absolutely adore this woman, she seems like such a fun and relaxed person!
Nice, playing Laura's Theme by David Raksin when she enters! :)
Loved her on 'Ramblin Rose'. For a number of reasons. One scene imperticular I won't say you just have to checkout it out. It was a coming of age tale for me.
I always forget she's the daughter of Bruce Dern for some reason, lol.
Deathbrewer same!
Pew pew! What an adorably geeky talented woman! Big Little Lies was awesome!
She's a real sweetheart.
Thanks for the love and support I appreciate you
😍

Whoa I just watched Blue Velvet tonight!
Jurassic Park here.
HEINEKEN?!
...
FUCK
THAT
SHIT
Nathan Chin Yeah, a weird ass film for sure.
Best beer commercial ever!
She's also excellent in Inland Empire, definitely worth checking out (if you can stomach Lynch's weirdness of course).
Nice touch, playing a funked-up version of "Laura" as Laura Dern walks in.
I wish she talked about F is for Family.
"Are... are you making laser noises?"
"All the time, in my head."
Her character in Twin Peaks is the best.
50 is the new 'forties'
ENLIGHTENED..I loved that show so much!!
Thanks for the love
Love you, Laura Dern!
"Dianne, it's 5:07 PM, and I've just left the chores I was doing, to watch this."
She's a great actress!
How the heck does she NOT age?? She’s like ellen degeneris. Unreal. She has looked the same for twenty years
Kevin McMuffin yeah, they're known to moisturize
Ariel Rose Stan lee has that same effect
The secret is they both own toaster ovens.
She is NOT a good female lead, as JOE rogan said, she seems like a sjw unrealistically controlling men.. unlike aliens.. watch 'Joe Rogan on Forced Diversity in Star Wars'
Ariel Rose could it be she simply looked 20yrs older than she actually was in Jurassic Park?..and she’s now caught up with her age?
she is one of my favorites. she's in EVERYTHING. i've loved her with david lynch forever. a really good lesser known role from her was HBO's enlightned. show was astounding.
Vice-Admiral Ho(l)dor would get along marvellously with Chewbacca.
And I thought i couldn't like her even more! Amazing actress and lovable personality.
"And who are you?"
"Rey"
"F--K you Rey"
Laura is a great actor.
I love Laura Dern lovely person.
Only now in my forties? Says the (still looking good on it) 50 year old Laura Dern.
Laura Dern is awesome! :D
Once again, the fact that the director either didn't catch it, or didn't care is the problem here, not the actress.
She's so goofy, it's great
Playing "Laura" as her entrance music. Well... played!
1993: Jurassic Park. 2017: Star Wars.
The spot design on her dress look like ghosts. :-D

What do you call that pattern? 'Scary Polka-dots'?
Rejected Leopard.
She's fuckin' awesome.
Omg I love her!
She is a very vibrant and youthful 50 year old
Thanks for the love
She moves around like nobody's business when she talks. That's okay, though. She's not inanimate.
No shame in making 'pew' sounds. Ewan McGregor confessed to making light sabre sounds when he started working on the prequels. The sound guys must be used to it by now. Apparently Sylvester Stallone made sounds when he filmed Rocky too.
I LOVED her in West Wing
"Pew pew" at 6:40
Just saw her in The Founder
Ogggi
Andrew Cortez she looks depressed in that movie
That was her roll depressed house wife
LAURA DERN LOOK GREAT ON SET STARS WARS !!
My name is Lauri Hirn, so if I'd marry her we could be Lauri and Laura Hirn-Dern. That would be awesome.
She seems like the perfect woman!!
She has nice shoulders
She has the best shoulders I've ever seen! Move over Gina Davis, Laura Dern's in town!!!

Hey its the lady from October Sky.
As long as her vice admiral gets more to do than Captain Phasma...

They didn't talk about Twin Peaks which makes me pretty fucking upset
Fuck You OhNo (in Diane's voice)
glad i read the comments before i watched this lmao
Ellis Dee twin peaks is currently airing (she wasn't in the original) and it's the only thing I currently care to listen to people talk about
Ellis Dee... where's that crazy anger coming from? That was a brutal-ass comment, coming from out of nowhere
No need to be so harsh ya jerk
“Blaster” 😂😂😂
Wow. Laura Dern is as tall or taller than Colbert
"Fuck you, Stephen."
