  • Houston Astros 4 at St. Louis Cardinals 6, F/12 -- Returning to St. Louis and down 3-2 in the series, the Cardinals needed this win if they wanted to force a Game 7. The Cardinals went into the 9th inning leading by one, but Jeff Bagwell came through for the Astros with game-tying single scoring Morgan Ensberg. The Cardinals and Astros battled it out in extra innings until Jim Edmonds hit a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the 12th to give the Cardinals hope in Game 7.

    Huge Cards fan, but I will always give that Astros team their due. That lineup was nasty. Berkman, Bagwell, Kent, Biggio, and Beltran. They were so good. This was a classic series that was unfortunately overshadowed by the Yankees Vs Red Sox classic series.

    • @hmhm856
      @hmhm856 Рік тому +1

      Which is a surprise that this NLCS got so overshadowed by the ALCS, since both the Cards and Astros had many star players.
      I mean, in 2003, none of the two LCS got overshadowed by the other one.

    This series was the best I'd ever seen until the 2011 World Series. It still makes me sad that this team couldn't finish the deal against Boston...but they have won 2 titles and appeared in 3 more WS since then, and they have another amazing team on paper this year, so I guess it's ok...

  • @wade5307
    @wade5307 2 роки тому +1

    Both LCS series were absolute classics that year. This series saw the home team win every game, and it was a battle right to the end…with the Cards eventually clinching their first pennant in 17 years. Of course in the ALCS the Red Sox exorcised their playoff demons, erasing a seemingly insurmountable 3-0 deficit to beat their nemesis the Yankees.

We sat in the first row of the upper deck in LF and I started to get sick from looking down a bunch and so by the end of the game I was feeling super nauseous and wanted to leave, but there was no way I was walking out early on a game like this. So glad I stayed and got to see the end of this.

    For my money, Mike Matheny was the toughest man in baseball. On May 26, 1998 while he was playing for Milwaukee, he took a fastball to the mouth and didn't even go down. He just stood there spitting out blood and teeth. He caught all ten innings of the game the next night. They don't call him Iron Mike for nothing. Having him as a manager has been great for the Cards, too.

    This was always one of the most exciting games I've ever seen. Only Game 6 of the 2011 WS was more exciting. This was the Cards swan song in 2004 because they got swept by the Red Sox in the WS. This was the team that won 105 games in the regular season and we couldn't do anything against the Sox. That always made me mad. But when Edmonds hit that homer, I can still remember jumping up and down in front of my TV. I was so excited, I called my sister at work to tell her. What a clutch homer that was by Edmonds!
