20 cameras and they couldn't spare one for one of the best southern-rock pianists in history, tearing up the keys for 2 minutes straight... Pisses me off every time I see this version. Thank Mel for at least mentioning it.
The first guitarist that stepped forward playing the Les Paul was Gary Rossington. RIP. The blazing piano - that the cameras never showed - was played by Billy Powell. Billy was with the band as a roadie, when they discovered his amazing talent.
He was afraid they wouldn't like that he had formally studied music, so he didn't tell them he could play up until they went to record at Muscle Shoals.
This is from 1976 when they played before The Rolling Stones. The stage has a tongue on the front of it that was supposed to be used by Mick Jagger ONLY! Of course when Skynyrd played Freebird, Ronnie (the lead singer) had all four guitarists move out onto the tongue for the solos. Ronnie believed that the crowd should remember his band after the concert, no matter who else played.
Here's a Lynyrd Skynyrd song no one has reacted to. Yet, it's such a great song that John Cougar Mellancamp loves performing it live in his concerts. The song is "Down South Jukin' " from the Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd album
It's hard to beat a good blues shuffle, and when Skynyrd gets one rolling, it can't be beat. I hope twenty years from now, folks are still rocking to these guys. They were amazing.
Yep those of us growing up in the '70s had the best music, but we're getting old now, glad to see younger folks like you discovering bands like Skynyrd,I appreciate your love of real music
One of the best jams of all time…such a cool, fun vibe! There have been times when I was on a driving job, hopped in the vehicle to make a run and this song immediately came on the radio…..look out , haha!
I found your channel last night and can’t stop watching yall! I’ll be 60 in December and it’s amazing to see new people find new music ❤️from South Alabama
I could not say enough about this band love love love them, seen them not long before the plane crash, zz top point blank and elvin bishop were there outdoor concert one hell of a concert best one I’ve ever seen or experience so fortunate to have seen them,1976 I think it was.
The song was written by JJ Cale. RIP Gary Rossington. Some of the guitar fills you heard in this song were done by Steve Gaines...That's Billy Powell on the piano here. They're all gone...RIP...
Recorded in knebworth one of the greatest concerts ever performed. They actually took out the rolling stones who were the headline act . After they got done the stones didn't even want to step on stage they knew they couldn't compete.
Great reaction as always y'all. free bird from the same concert is amazing. that was the rolling stones set and they told Lynyrd Skynyrd not to step on the tongue. Free bird was the last song they always played and at the solo Ronnie pulled them to the tip of the tongue and had them play the last half of the song stand from there.
Great reaction! Another song to check out from this concert is Freebird. Most say to react or view the '77 Oakland Coliseum version. Though it's a nice production, I've always preferred this one from Knebworth. Reason being, the Knebworth version records the whole song. The Oakland version cuts off part of Allen's solo in the last/third section of the song. You can see it in the editing and also you can hear it's different from the Knebworth version. As you said Skynyrd's music will live and play on for generations to come.
Damn I love Georgia peaches & glad I have spent 50+ years here enjoying them! That great jam was recorded right here in Atlanta at Studio One which is where Atlanta Rhythm Section recorded all their albums...eat a peach ✌💖☮
I was born in 1966. The 70s were the best from what you just heard to Motown among other genres. But yeah no decade has been better and I’ve heard ‘em all
Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash in 1977. My favorite songs are "Simple Man", "Free Bird" & "Sweet Home Alabama". They had lots of great songs such as "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Gimme Three Steps", "Saturday Night Special" etc.
THIS WAS THE YEAR BEFORE THE TRAGEDY 😟 YOU GUYS, SO YOU'RE GETTING THE WHOLE 7 MAN ORIGINAL BAND, GREAT CLIP!!! 😊OF COURSE THE LEADER BEING THE SINGER ( RONNIE VAN ZANDT )
This is a cover song from their 1976 live album. They also covered it on the 1974 studio album "Second Helping". That cover is even better than the live cover. I was never a huge fan of their style of music but there's no question they were terrific musicians. They absolutely burned that song to the ground.
@@michaelasay8587 You’ve never herd that because this isn’t your type of music. Southern Rock was a term used for bands from the south that weren’t country they were rock. This band was formed in 1966 and they’re all dead now. Plus this wasn’t the best choice for a video like this because its one of 2 songs that Skynyrd ever Covered. This is a JJ Cale tune. They have way better songs than this. If you’re under 35 you probably won’t care for any of it .
FYI; Your microphones are crazy loud compared to the song. Song should actually be just as loud if not louder then the two of you. I found that quite annoying. After three minutes of the two of you shouting in my ear and barely hearing the song I'm out.
20 cameras and they couldn't spare one for one of the best southern-rock pianists in history, tearing up the keys for 2 minutes straight... Pisses me off every time I see this version. Thank Mel for at least mentioning it.
R.I.P. to all the the original members of LYNYRD SKYNYRD🙏
Ricky Medlocke still lives
@@killrinstinx4148 He's not an original no matter how many times he says he is.
Lynryd Skynyrd was more after the crash. The bird went to heaven
No more after the crash. Sorry
This song wouldn't exist if it hadn't been written by J.J. Cale, Mr. Breeze himself, who also wrote Cocaine and After Midnight. RIP Mr. Cale.
That's Gary rossington on guitar. Rip
Thanks for letting us enjoy music, without interruption.
Be happy to hear it mel. if u were around then, you'd b old like me
This song wouldn't exist if Gary Rossington hadn't re-written it is the truth of the matter .
Why are the two of these people's microphones 10 times louder than the actual song we're listening to!?.. that is super annoying!
The first guitarist that stepped forward playing the Les Paul was Gary Rossington. RIP. The blazing piano - that the cameras never showed - was played by Billy Powell. Billy was with the band as a roadie, when they discovered his amazing talent.

Billy Paul was a monster on keyboard
Sorry Powell
I will always be rocking with them til God calls my number!😇🙏

I wouldn’t trade those times for anything…….👍
It was the best and my kids tell me I had it way better than they do now. Amazing song!
A DVD NEEDS to be made of this Concert and This is how You BLOW THE STONES OFF THE STAGE!!!!!!!!!
It makes today's artists look so crazy !
I wish they would show Billy Powell playing that awesome piano solo!
Keep looking. I found it and he played it with one hand. It was incredible!
One of the best jams of all time…such a cool, fun vibe!
There have been times when I was on a driving job, hopped in the vehicle to make a run and this song immediately came on the radio…..look out , haha!
Awwwww. My favorite. As a young teenager. I was thrilled by their style of music. Country/ southern rock. I mean a style of their own. ❤
One of my favorite dancing songs! Love Skynyrd!!!!!
My favourite Skynyrd song !! They did to this
song by JJ Cale, what Joe Cocker did to the Beatles, With A Little Help From My Friends.
You should of seen them in concert. I got to see them best concert i ever went to worth every penny ❤❤❤ glad you guys discovered them
I found your channel last night and can’t stop watching yall! I’ll be 60 in December and it’s amazing to see new people find new music

The best showcase of Stevie gaines. The final solo? Brilliant

The Best Southern Rock on display. Epic
Skynyrd was the best live band there ever was
I believe that footage was skynnard opening for the rolling stones in GB
Great reaction as always y'all.

They took everybody to church !!! Southern Style
Shawn and Mel, you can throw a dart at any Skynard song and you can't go wrong. Simple Man should be up next
Lynyrd Skynyrd "T for Texas 1976 knebworth" is awesome.
Great reaction!

Lynyrd Skynyrd was SOOOOOO GOOD!

So what’s the point of this type of video, to show the world they’re not racist. 😂
