Unfortunately, someone gave you some erroneous information. The explanations for candela and throw were wrong and will cause people confusion. What you were calling candela was the hotspot. What you were calling throw was the spill (the floodiness). The hotspot is the strongest concentration of the beam and will be the brightest part that you’ll see. Candela is the intensity of light in one direction whereas lumens simply measures the total visible light (collective from all directions). Throw is how far the light will be impactful at a distance. Like how far you can throw a ball. How far the emitter throws the light. This is why I find the x300 far more useful as a weaponlight versus the turbo. The ultra is more floody, so I can see a much wider area without moving the gun side to side and I hope to never see a need to shoot exceptionally long distances with a handgun, at night, so I don’t need the long distance throw of the turbo. The ultra will help you properly identify a target at 100 yards, I doubt anyone will ever encounter a situation that requires more distance on a handgun at night. You want the best balance between flood and throw. Enough throw to exceed your expected range and enough flood to properly survey the area close to you. Notice how dimly lit the hallway was with the x300 turbo. All you could see was that 16” circle on the far wall and couldn’t see much of the hall walls or most importantly the doorways.
The main point of the Turbo was the disorientation effect you get from being flashed. Higher candela = stronger disorientation effect. Thats why the Turbo sacrifices lumens for more candela because there was a need for more candela and the competitors were starting to fill that need like the Modlite and Holosun PID HC. SureFire went all in and is currently king of candela dethroning both by a huuuuuge margin.
This video probably has the worst understanding and explanation of Candela versus lumens. Candela describes intensity in a specific direction, while lumens describe the total output.
Plenty of high powered lights over $300 that are worth it. Acebeam X75 is one example. Imalent MS32 or the SR32 are two more. But those are really for rural areas and lighting up the field at night.
ive been messing around with cheap internet lights, most are junk, i have one that for some reason has lasted a few thousand rounds and mostly still works and almost holds zero, for 30 bucks wow! and i have a box full of stuff that didnt last at all, or was faulty on delivery. 1 out of 10 cheap light/lasers might kinda work for a short time, i would pay 3000 dollars for a light that can be 100% reliable, but thats not possible.
Things to be aware of: 1. Really high candela throws a lot of light back at you when clearing small rooms. For an apartment-dweller's "home gun", be aware of this. 2. Warmer color temperatures cut through moisture much better. Colder/blue illumination causes much more refraction/bounce back... And "neutral color temps (4000~5000k) give the most accurate color rendering for PID.
I run both TRL1HL and 300uA, I personally like the Surefire better inside the house. As you slop with the A, 1 you have to use the correct plate for QD, Glock or 1911, and they make an adjustable shim that comes with it and works great for the poor pic rail forming done by manufacturers.
Holosun pid is the one! Traded all my TLR-1 HL in for it. The slimmer profile allows me to carry it more comfortable and it's built like a tank! You can buy non rechargeable battery for it as well. I highly recommend it! 💯
To fix the wobble problem, put a piece of Velcro on the curve on the light that touches the trigger guard. I have both A & B sure fires. The Velcro works well !!
New guy to the firearm game here, just don't really understand why the tac light for the most part is half the price of the pistol I purchased. Are we paying for the fact that it is cut to fit the pistol? Like you can buy a flashlight with the power of the sun from homedepot for 60 bucks. Am I crazy?
I do a lot of business with Herrington arms and I really appreciate this video especially when the information is coming from you brother! Thanks! Great company with excellent customer service and comps!
The sub is so good and changing batteries is super convenient out the front. Wish they made it in 1000 lumen. I'd take the shorter battery life in exchange for more lumen.
I use the Olight LEP valkyrie turbo. It's only 250 lumens, but 75,000 candela 530m throw. It has plenty of flood for clearing and doesn't throw a ton back in small rooms since the hotspot is so small. No one within 75m can see when they are in the hotspot.
X300 Turbos are the best in class. If they had detachable heads that were compatible with their rifle scout WMLs like Modlite, they'd be perfect. I'd like the choice of 18350s as Surefire is pretty much at the absolute maximum that CR123s can produce. Streamlights TLR1-HLs are like $150-$180 and X300 Turbos are $230 everyday on the right website. I'm choosing X300 Turbos for American made, class leading candela and holster compatibility for the extra $50-$70.
My favorite lights are the TLR7 and TLR9, mainly because of the switches. Unfortunately the TLR9 never really got popular, so there isn't much holster support.
From what I hear the tlr9 fits in the surefire x300 holsters. I’m gonna go for the tlr9 because of its slim profile and I love the beam it puts out. I would have went for the x300 turbo but there is no safety shut off with the light cap like the tlr9 and also you can quickly reload new batteries in the tlr9 through the front of the light without taking it off
I don’t necessarily like my weaponlight flush with the muzzle of my pistol. I prefer it to be slightly forward because in a CQB scenario, the weaponlight acts as a nice standoff device.
@ you’ve never been in a CQB situation where someone may be fighting you for your gun, have you? Especially when you have a partner or team member behind you and you can’t back up and get distance…yeah, real life isn’t Call of Duty. Look up what a standoff device is if you care to learn something.
@ look up what a standoff device is and what it is used for if you care to learn something. They can be very useful in CQB and when you don’t necessarily have the option to back off and get distance. Because, in case you haven’t noticed, real life isn’t Call of Duty.

Get the TLR-1 1000 lmn, it is a damn good light for the money, especially in the U.S. I have one on my 4.25" M&P9 2.0 and it just works, the combination that is.
Try the new surefire xr1 light you will be surprised there's no competition for the edc light's no more coming at 800 lumens and 15000 candela great video 👍
The Ultra is perfect for pistol building searching and close in stuff, but NOT long range stuff. The Turbo is perfect for a rifle and long range stuff, but the spill is also ok for building searches and close in stuff.
Stumbled on this video after seeing the new TLR7 HLX would love your comparison on the new 1000lumen tlr7. Trying to decide for my sig m18 and m17. Love the TLR7s on my compacts but trying to decide if a tlr1 would be better still
The Holosun PID would look really good on my shadow systems mr920p elite. Either that or the TLR1. Im also looking for a good holster theres so many IWB. Any thoughts?

Was able to order my hellcat pro comp today finally but I emailed soon as I placed it because I left my unit number off my address rushing thinking it was gone sell out fast
To bad you didn't throw the o light valkerie turbo it's more powerful than surefire turbo and it's lifetime warranty and under a hundred bucks I have never had a failer with my o lights. My streamlights have failed screw stripped and my surefire stepped working and had to use warranty.
What I personally find sad, is that my $35 RovyVon Aurora a3 pro that’s the size of 1 aa battery, outshines all of these. I have an x300 ultra on my Glock 19, a cloud rein 3.0 on my rifle, and a surefire m640 df (NOT dft!) on a shotgun. That duel fuel is bad ass for a shotgun 1500 lumens but only like 10k candela…it’s a 30-40 flood light!!! While the cloud has a laser beam that you can see someone in the other end zone picking their nose. But again, my lil RovyVon smokes em all!

When it comes to torchs 🔦, I gave away all my Olight's, Streamlights (except my TLR-1). Fenix and Nitecore are excellent options when it comes to lighting. Why would people purchase a $350+ light that is only 1k lumens with low quality candela?! Waste of money if you ask me ...
Glad you asked. One is an American made product that keeps your money here. The other is a Chinese company that funds the CCP. Kinda obvious, unless your a shitstain of a man that wants to fund people who'll happily go to war with you. But hey, it's your choice after all.
Olight branding is for collectors and their hobbies, look at majority of productions it’s handheld for people to collect with the “limited edition” designs. These are for real world situations.
1000 lumens can be blinding against a white wall in the dark...for in-home, 1000 seems like way too much with distances much less than some tactical/outdoor/warehouse type use cases...
Sloppy technical language kills me. Lumens describe the total light output of the lamp (luminous flux), the candela is a unit for how bright it is at a particular angle (luminous intensity).
Plz don’t make a comp like that for the echelon (sugar cube💀) that look is y I didn’t get the strike industry one for my hellcat and went with the one yall made
After buying and owning their comps, I am 99% sure that is just a prototype they are probably working on. The fit and finish of the comps I have bought from them have been amazing and the fit is always perfect. Can't imagine they would release a sugar cube. They aren't ZP after all 🤣😂🤣😂
Any option with built in batteries just know that batteries go bad after so many charges. I'd prefer not to have to throw the light away because the internal battery died and you can't change it. For that reason I still like the TLR-1 better
Id take a wild 1 or aplc or o light before a streamlight unless they fix my tlr7 sub becouse that broke only pistol light i have from streamlight and broke i have like 10 olights and have had some for almost 10 years and not one has broke .surefire and streamlight way over rated .
Olight is for hobbyist, all the members collect handheld lights and let them sit in boxes. Comparing oranges to apples, would never use it in an edc use.
@@terryluu1713 I bought one and it was junk. Surefire Turbos and scout lights cannot be beat. Who is collecting Surefire’s and Modlights while not using them?
Your research into candela and lumens isn't correct. Candela is concentration of lumen into a hot spot. Lumens is total light output whether it's a hotspot or flood. So trying to professional explain the light difference is completely off. Lol.
Currently running and X300 - handheld. no $$ left for a pistol 😢

the fact that he shows how they each throw light, there's really not too much room for practical confusion, just terminology.

The holosun PID has the same footprint as the streamlight TLR-1 so any holster that is for the streamlight will work with the Holosun

Glad you asked.
One is an American made product that keeps your money here. The other is a Chinese company that funds the CCP.
Kinda obvious, unless your a shitstain of a man that wants to fund people who'll happily go to war with you.
But hey, it's your choice after all.
Looks like someome gotta free bow with that nice hat!!!!
Streamlight has far to soft switches. I’m not risking a light AD.
What mag well is that for the dagger?
I like my tlr-9
Tlr1-HL hands down! Then buy the weapon light cleaner and you are solid!
Just use some chapstick on the lens, wipes off easy and has worked for many environments.
If you want to blind someone the candela is more important?
"the candela is probably a 6' diameter"
oh my god lol you've gotta be kidding me
I like how much light the Holosun has & like that it recharges Im definitely gettin that one I’ll put up with stiff buttons
We were super impressed with it. We got a few more after this video haha
What about OLIGHT?
I know, right? The PL-3R is friggin awesome!
@@stephendufresne9239 Garbage
Can't put an olight in these comparisons.. Don't wanna embarrass all the other companies
I'm surprised olight wasn't on the list. How come?
Not the only gun light out there!
Olight branding is for collectors and their hobbies, look at majority of productions it’s handheld for people to collect with the “limited edition” designs. These are for real world situations.
Olight just doesn't stand up to the models tested here, they are not tier 1 and neither is Holosun.
You missed the SIG SAUER foxtrot light compared that to streamlight tlr7
Button Position on the sig is way better than any of these
What’s the best
Most reliable
1000 lumens can be blinding against a white wall in the dark...for in-home, 1000 seems like way too much with distances much less than some tactical/outdoor/warehouse type use cases...
Candela is light throw , lumens is brightnes...
I was about to say! Good one sarcasm * love the trl 1
Only 1hr of battery life?
You missed the great Sig Foxtrot2R
TLR-1 HL GANG
Sloppy technical language kills me.
Lumens describe the total light output of the lamp (luminous flux), the candela is a unit for how bright it is at a particular angle (luminous intensity).
Goonbeam makes wml clones that blow surefire and streamlight out of the park performance wise imo.
@ghost.actual718 Care to explain 🙂?
Ever since Surefire made the turbo lines I see no point of going with Modlite or Stream light, get the turbos
TRL are known for White light ND’s while in certain Safariland holsters.
Olight pl valkerie pro for the win under a hundred owend 2 for years better than streamlight
bruh, if your light is wiggling a lil bit, then just fix it. It would take you 30 seconds to make a tiny modification and make it stop completely
They aren't ZP after all 🤣😂🤣😂
smear some gun oil on the lens of the light. should help with cleaning the carbon off of it.
The Candela Effect. 😂
I prefer Olight...have had no problems, 1350 lumens, 600 lumens...Ill take an Olight any day of the week.
I prefer not to put hand grenades in my pockets or on my guns.
Any option with built in batteries just know that batteries go bad after so many charges. I'd prefer not to have to throw the light away because the internal battery died and you can't change it. For that reason I still like the TLR-1 better
Buy one that fits your gun bam your welcome 😎
Id take a wild 1 or aplc or o light before a streamlight unless they fix my tlr7 sub becouse that broke only pistol light i have from streamlight and broke i have like 10 olights and have had some for almost 10 years and not one has broke .surefire and streamlight way over rated .
Olight is the new standard funny how people won’t admit it 😂
No it isn’t. They pay for good reviews.
Sounds to me like you have an Olight and are pressed it’s not on this list.
Bots
Your research into candela and lumens isn't correct. Candela is concentration of lumen into a hot spot. Lumens is total light output whether it's a hotspot or flood. So trying to professional explain the light difference is completely off. Lol.
bro.. WTF? where is the Olight???
Olight is crap, sorry but that's a fact.
Viridian?
"Which pistol light that you can't afford should you buy?"
