Love it that Brad Delp of Boston is recognized. One of the best natural harmony voices I ever heard. Brad Delp R.I.P.
He was great!!!!!!
This channel is GOLD, Thanks Pete❤️
One guy that often gets overlooked is Noddy Holder from Slade. Yes the tunes may have been a little campy but he had an absolutely powerhouse bluesy voice.
absolutely agree, not my favorite, but very powerful voice, one of most powerful voices in history or rock. My respect for mentioning
you're 100% right. I guess he may have been considered too abrasive though and Slade had very little success in the States.
Absolutely love him. Very unique. Goodbye T'Jane is my fav Slade song.
My favourite rock and metal singers:
Peter Hammill (VdGG. I am not a huge fan of his solo stuff)
Kerry Minnear (Gentle Giant)
Hansi Kürsch (Blind Guardian. My favourite metal singer)
Richard Sinclair (Caravan)

Ozzy Osbourne
Tarja Turunen (Nightwish)

Mairéad Ní Mhaonaig (from Irish traditional music group Altan)

This was great. As usual love your deep and comprehensive knowledge and I always learn something and finish up checking out a few things I have never listened to before which is the thing I like the most about your channel. Anyway, my favourites of all time in no particular order off the top of my head: David Byron, Dan McCaferty, Mickey Thomas, Robert Plant, Ian Gillan and laterly I have really enjoyed Bernie Shaw and agree he is so underrated.
Awesome list, Pete! I really appreciate your inclusion of Geddy Lee. Rush is my favorite band and Lee seems to have a love it or hate it kind of voice.
PS....Based on your shirt I was in suspense to see if you would mention Rick Davies and Roger Hodgson--two of my faves. Great episode--you are keeping the conversation going, which is awesome.
geddy lee is the reason i dislike rush☝🏻
I just love Dio, I miss Dio.. Timeless classic
I hear you Rob! I'm also a huge Dio fan!
Yes. Huge miss. Many (included me) consider him as one of the best singers in the history of rock/metal music.
Yeah, I love Dio too. Miss him so much!
RONNIE JAMES DIO - UNDISPUTED KING 🕇🤘🎤🤘🕇
Coverdale, Dio, Perry and Paul Rodgers for me are the 4 outstanding timeless vocalists for me.
I couldn't agree with your list more! We have EXACTLY the same taste!
I listened to your rant at work. I couldn't wait to get home and comment about how you excluded Daltrey! You included Derek Shulman but excluded Ian Anderson. But now I see your subtext... you're lucky!!! Great job as usual Pete. Thx!
Thank you for your all time favorite vocalists.🎤🎸🎵🥁

James Brown
Ray Charles
Don't forget Coverdale! He was absolutely amazing

Pete hit all my favs, but my old school vocalists. Allan Clarke of the Hollies, very underrated. Eric Burdon. Norman Smith aka Hurricane Smith engineered the Beatles albums up to Rubber Soul. what a unique voice, I always say he's the male Carol Channing voice.
Great list Hit a lot of my faves. Main ones that you didn't mention that I would put on there would be Mike Patton, Klaus Meine, Eric Bloom, Robert Smith, James Labrie, and Sonja Kristina.
Again, Pete; nice. Genuinely surprised you didn’t mention Paul Stanley though, actually. 🙂
Pete forgot him because he is suffering from rock and roll pneumonia. He needs to call Dr. Love!
Can't remember them all but here's 20 of the best.

Pete, I love your channel and enjoy watching your lists, music knowledge and insights. And after watching this latest video, I must ask you, WHERE DID YOU FIND A SUPERTRAMP CRIME OF THE CENTURY SHIRT??????
I have searched for a Supertramp shirt in general and have had a difficult time of finding one at all. And I always wanted a Crime Of The Century t-shirt, it's my favorite album!
Could you PLEASE tell me where I can get one of those sweet shirts? I would GREATLY appreciate that.
Rock on brother.

Scary Eyeball , supertramp shirt on Amazon....they had a bunch🎤
@@stevebernier3749 Cool. Thanks. I looked everywhere a few years back and couldn't find anything decent. Especially a Crime Of The Century shirt. Thanks for the heads up! I haven't checked for any for awhile and seen Pete wearing one. It reminded me how much I wanted one years back and couldn't find one. Now I can get me one. Nice.
Just so they're not that Chinese crap. I ordered a few shirts from iffy sellers and they were from China, and they were crap shirts with really poor quality prints. Worse even than an old school iron-on. So I still have to watch for that garbage. Amazon can be very sketchy.
I thought Dave Meniketti would've got an honourable mention.
1) Freddie Mercury... from the gentlest of gentle (Love of My Life) to the heaviest of heavy (Gimme the Prize), he did It all; and did it suberbly. Throw in the songwriting, the piano playing and the stage persona... and you’ve got the King.
2) Lou Gramm
3) Pat Benatar.
A nod to Meatloaf.
1 s generic
meatloaf? mehh haha
Where can I get those cd shelves you have behind you? I need some😎
I like how this list had 4 different Sabbath singers on it! (Ozzy, Dio, Hughes and Gillan)
I'm surprised you mentioned Floor from Nightwish and not their original singer, Tarja, she's usually the one people put on a pedestal.
Glad Jon Oliva from Savatage got a mention!
Having just watched your video on Armored Saint, I'm surprised you left out John Bush.
Halford, DIO, Freddie, Dickinson, Eric Adams, Geoff Tate, Michael Kiske, Midnight, John Arch, King Diamond, Tim Ripper Owens, Ian Gillan, David Coverdale, Steve Lee, Robert Plant, David Byron, Dee fuckin' Snider, Jani Lane, Steve Percy, AXL, Lou Gramm, Tony Martin, Terry Illous, Lenny Wolf, Michael Sweet, David Lee Roth, Michael Starr, Bon Jovi, Hetfield, Anselmo, Chuck Shuldiner, Tom Arraya, Joey Beladona, Steve Perry, Steven Tyler, Ozzy, Bon Scott, Udo, Brian Johnson, Tom Keifer, Tommy Lane, Don Dokken.
My favorites in no particular order. Too hard to rank.

Fantastic list! I would like to shout out Tony Harnell, Jeff Scott Soto, Derek St. Holmes, and even though he only was part of three albums Guy Speranza(RIP) was a perfect fit for Riot's hard rock/metal sound during that time.

Nice list.
Two other names for the list: Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker. Great vocalists. Love them.
Glenn Hughes has the most incredible voice ever. Devin Townsend needs mentioning along with Davey Pattison.
Davey pattison on those gamma alb ums...👍👍👍
Glenn is great, but no where as great as the guy that replaced him in Black Sabbath.
@@MrNWA4Life Glenn's appearance on the "Seventh Star" album, and brief stint on the subsequent tour, was the nadir of his career. By the time he and Tony got back together for the DEP Sessions (widely bootlegged as "Eighth Star," Glenn's mojo was back. And the "Fused" album (2005) is a blistering set.
Still kills me they weren't permitted to mount a "Fused" tour as planned. Sharon Osbourne must have heard an advanced copy of the album and thought, "WTF?! Ozzy better get back and tour with Black Sabbath NOW and KILL Tony's album before anyone can hear it, or "Fused might well kill Ozzy's career. And there would go MY meal ticket."
Perfect list! Got to give some love to singers with unique voices that perfectly fit the style and subject matter they sing or sung about: Mats Leven with Therion, Piet Sielck with Iron Savior, Kai Hansen with Gamma Ray and Ricky Warwick with Black Star Riders (gotta love the Phil Lynott vibes). Of course Dickinson, Halford and Dio at the top of any list for all time.
Great list, but I'll mention two you forgot who are definitely underrated.
Jack Bruce from Cream
Lonesome Dave Peverett from Foghat
My favorite metal/hard rock vocalists:
1. Ronnie James Dio
2. Bruce Dickinson

Hi Pete, of course it was easy to forget to mention (sorry if I didn't realize that you mentioned some) many great singers like:
Paul Stanley (underrated and I'm not a huge Kiss fan), Michael Sweet, Don Dokken, Mike Tramp, Sebastian Bach, Dave Meniketti, Gary Moore, Roger Daltrey (I read that he was in your list), Ian Anderson (unique voice), Eric Adams, Steve Lukather, Joseph Williams, Steve Hogarth, Hasse Froberg, Demis Roussos, Ted Leonard and who knows how many I forget right now...oh and a couple of Italian singers older like Francesco Di Giacomo, Demetrio Stratos, Aldo Tagliapietra or younger like Roberto Tiranti.
The late Ray Gillen was never given enough credit. Check out the first Badlands album and in particular Rumblin' Train and Devils Stomp. Send shivers down your spine........ Going further back again,David Clayton-Thomas of BS&T,thankfully still with us.
Good video! I guess u forgot Klaus Meine from Scorpions.
Love Klause Meine, but not always. His voice has grown on me as the years go on so that is a good sign as others have worn off!

But a nod to you for listing Burton Cummings, best known for all those Guess Who hits. Such great range and diversity - rock, blues, jazz, scat, you name it, plus he plays a little flute too!
Hey Pete, didya ever think that Boston was a more polished version of Grand Funk. The organ, the vocals, the rhythm section....
Great pick of vocalists, nice to see so many British singers up there. As for Ian Gillan, a pure gent ment him as Glory Road was released. He had enough of going round the local radio station, pushing the album. Virgin records had signed him and his band up so they wanted the big exposure. A friend of mine was his PR. man at the time, phoned me up so we all went for a beer then back to my house for the afternoon. Ian unwound and we had a great day. After that he would send me tickets to all his gigs. A really down to earth guy who loved to play cricket.
10 more not mentioned by Pete - Justin Hayward of Moody Blues, Art Garfunkel, Dan McCafferty of Nazareth, Layne Staley/Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains, Jeff Buckley, Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, Kelly Jones of Stereophonics, Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer, Neko Case of New Pornographers, Aretha Franklin,
good shout about Neko Case.
Great Video! Chris Cornell to me was the greatest vocalist I have ever heard. After him I would probably think Ronnie James Dio. I would definitely think Geoff Tate in his prime deserves a mention as well.
Some Great pics Pete ....Pat Benatar, Ian Gillian,Ann Wilson, Morrison, Dio, Dickinson,Steve Perry, early Ozzy, Roger Daltry, McCartney, Fred Merury ....too name some

Roger Daltrey? See Me Feel Me from Woodstock? Live at Leeds? The scream in Won't Get Fooled Again? Behind Blue Eyes? Love Reign O'er Me?
He and Ian Anderson were both on my list and somehow I forgot to read them.
Thanks Pete. Great show. I thought that was the case. You've given lotta love to The Who in various shows and you mentioned Live at Leeds as your No. 12 in your top 25 live albums of all time.
Really comprehensive list!!! Like the mention of Kiske and Oliva (don't forget Chris Oliva on your guitar list. :) Kiske, Dio, Halford, Tate for metal. Tarja is Nighwish's best singer ever, she is out of this world. For non metal, I like John Wetton's singing on some of the King Crimson albums, I know some people are mixed but I like Jon Anderson of Yes, David Coverdale, Ann Wilson, Lou Gramm for sure. Janis Joplin was also completely badass. You nail it with Delp, holy cow could he sing. So many good ones.
Great list Pete, just popped on some of mine I Love James LaBrie of Dream Theater!! His vocals soar and have a massive emotional impact on me. James Hetfield was a fantastic thrash metal vocalist I thought he peaked on And justice for all, but I loved his higher register on the first three albums. Mike Patton is a fantastic vocalist also with his death growls and his clean soulful voice, great variety, like to give a shout out to Brann Dailor of Mastodon even though he’s an Titan on the kit that lad can sing like a bonafide hard rock/metal frontman. Some of my favourites 🤘🏻
1. Ian Gillan 2. Rob Halford 3. Freddie Mercury 4. Rik Emmett 5. Phil Lynott 6. Roger Daltrey 7. Robert Plant 8. Roger Taylor 9. David Gilmour 10. Ronnie James Dio

Another honorable mention; Ann Wilson.
The danger is that themost known singers are selected, while there are fantastic lesser known singers. In that aspect I think you did a great job in mentioning so many!
Some (known) names I hought of in the beginning were: Freddy Mercury, Al Jarreau, John Waite, Randy Crawford (love her vocals on Steve Hackett's 2nd album), Dio, Floor Jansen (indeed) etc... Also I was impressed by Og3ne's Bohemian Rhapsody cover which went viral recently. All the ones you mentioned are great though. I also liked all Genesis vocalists.
Oh yeah Ann Wilson indeed...
All lead singers for these groups who had more than one lead vocalist:
Kansas, Supertramp, Styx,Eagles, Fleetwood Mac.
Bob Seger, Billy Joel, Freddie Mercury, Dan Fogelberg, Brad Delp, Ann Wilson( sister Nancy great too, especially on harmony). Annie Lennox( Eurythmics), Chrissie Hynde(Pretenders). Donald Fagan( he fits Steely Dan's style perfectly), Linda Ronstadt, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel ( his vocal styles vary slightly from song to song, yet, you know it is still him),Steve Winwood, Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Phil Collins, Kevin Cronin(REO Speedwagon).
Agree totally on Fogelberg

author of THE DEATH TAX sez: Interesting list, featuring quite a few names that are new to me. Nice to see great singers who are easy to overlook like Peter Cetera (with a voice like a jazz trumpet in his early CHICAGO days) and Steve Walsh (check out the vocal clinic he gives in "Every Step of the Way") get some love. A couple of notable omissions that jump out at me: Chris Cornell ("The Day I Tried To Live") and Scott Stapp ("My Own Prison"), either of whom could have been Plant's/Gillan's successor as THE power vocalist of his generation.
Here's a few of my favorites:
1) Robert Plant
2) Chris Cornell
3) Paul Rodgers
4) Jeff Buckley
5) Greg Allman
6) Chris Robinson
7) Myles Kennedy
8) Ian Gillan
9) Rob Halford
10) David Bowie
11) Anne Wilson
12) Scott Weiland
13) Paul McCartney
14) Jonathan Davis

19) Freddy Mercury
20) Ronnie James Dio

22) Mike Patton
23) Bono
24) Smokey Robinson
25)Otis Reeding
26) Roger Daltrey
27) Brian Ferry
28)Eddie Vedder
29) Bill Withers
30) Bruce Dickinson
I missed Jay Buchanan (Rival Sons) on my list, he's my current favorite, I don't know how I could have forgotten him.
Josh Homme 👍 good guitarist too
@@markgolde4274 Yeah, I think he's underrated, he's very eclectic in his musical styles, Queens, Eagles Of Death Metal( plays drums), Kyuss & Them Crooked Vultures.
Ian Gillian ( first proper metal screamer), Ronnie James Dio( Legend), Blackie lawless( unique horror voice), Glenn Hughes, David coverdale, Bruce Dickinson (Epic influenced by Ian Gillian) messiah Marcolin ( Candlemass) , David byron, Michael kiske, Kate Bush, floor Jansen, annie haslem , chuck Billy, David gilmour . From top of my head.
Love what you listed, but I would also include powerhouses like Biff Byford Of Saxon and Burton Cummings of the legendary band from Canada we need to talk more about: The Guess Who. He is also an amazing multi instrumentalist! How about Jim Dandy Mangrum from underrated, yet so influential southern rock band(even on Lynard Skynard and The Allman Brothers) Black Oak Arkansas?! Mangram had a unique vocal display...not technically the greatest, but interesting indeed! And him as a frontman was so unique with the washboard and tight pants look that David Lee Roth took from! There’s so much to be listed, but just wanted to put that out there!
@ Sean Doucette
Definitely.
Burton Cummings is one of the best vocalist ever.
From Winnipeg,Manitoba Canada.
My top 5..nr 1. Myles Goodwyn-April wine, nr 2 .David Coverdale-Whitesnake, nr 3 .Graham Bonett-Alcatrazz,rainbow,solo.nr 4.Lou Gramm-Foreigner,nr 5 Ann Wilson-Heart..
My number 1 will always be Peter Gabriel! The 1970-1974 era is just too good.
Honorable mentions: Fish (Marillion), Annie Haslam (Renaissance), Morissey (Smiths/solo), Layne Staley (Alice in Chains)
What excellent taste and choice. I had considered Annie haslam. Saw renaissance in 1975 on turn of friendly card. I was amazed how good they were one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Whilst talking of best concerts, 10cc, Gordon Giltrap and Al Stewart right up there.
John Fogerty, Howlin' Wolf, Little Richard, Johnny Cash, Billie Holiday, Robin Gibb, David Bowie, Mick Jagger.
My faves in no particular order:
Paul McCartney, Marty Balin, Grace Slick, Ian Gillan, Lou Gramm, Linda Ronstadt, Paul Rodgers, James Dewar, Pat Benatar, Annie Lennox,
Judy Collins, Robert Plant, Chester Bennington, Elton John and Jim Morrison and Tina Turner.
Great list. Nailed all the greats. I always felt like Burke Shelley of Budgie should always be listed at the same time as Geddy Lee since their vocal styles are so similar.
I actually think Bowie is a tremendous singer. Beautiful tone, glorious phrasing, and incredible vibrato.
