  • Popular in Europe the blob fly is just making in-roads in America. This heavy weighted version of this wildly effective fly is best fished under and indicator.

I generally don't use scent on them but you could very well do so.

Great video as always I Would love to learn how to tie my own flies, kits seem expensive and it looks pretty technical.

Beginner kits are not expensive at all. $50 or less will get you going. Thread at craft stores is cheap or you can get it free from estate and yard sales sometimes. You can also find hooks very cheap at yard sales just to practice with. Start with a size 12 or 10 and learn how to wrap and whip finish. If there is a fly shop near you I bet any of them can show you basics. I started tying 10 years ago. I sell them on Etsy and ebay as a hobby. Don't pay more than $0.50 for a fly. I tie euro tungsten flies for $0.18 each that includes the tungsten beads. Granted I buy in bulk, but there is no reason as all to pay $2-$5 for a fly from a fly shop that you can loose in a split second in a tree or fish or snag in the river. Also look into community education classes, sometimes they offer fly tying classes. We all started out with the thrift store or Cabela's vise and moved up as our needs and skills increased. Good luck!!!

I’ve been thinking about trying these on Kokanee under an indicator in spring when they are shallow. Have you ever tried it?
