Another great lesson Desi. I really enjoy your explanations about what's going on in the song. Using real songs to explain stuff like modes makes it a lot easier to understand them. Kudos!
Great examples showing playing a riff in different positions or combining two positions. So many times I find a tab and I'm like "why is this all over the place" then I start moving the notes around and get it into a simpler spot with an easy to play and easy to remember pattern
A really good song to hammer into memory the different pentatonic positions for playing the same riff. I think I will apply this strategy to other song riffs I know to test my pentatonic position skills. Thanks! You're an excellent teacher.
ive seen other lessons on this. you crushed them all. im awful at guitar. also half drunk. you just taught the shit out of this. thanks dude. made my night
Been playing for over 50 years and still learning! I primarily play acoustic, so not many bends and stuff like that. Pull ffs/hammers, etc. Played bluegrass rhythm for years. Not a good lead player like some of the bluegrass monsters I know. This lesson is getting me some needed intro for Domino. Van is one of my faves from back in the day! I like the way you relate to music in terms of shapes and fretboard theory. Am also a classically trained bassist since 1960. I'm interested in more of your teaching. HAve subscribed and looking foirward to exploring your teaching method. Thanks!
Great lesson - it felt effortless to learn it. I like that you pepper the practical with reference to the theoretical - the best teachers always explain the Whys with the Hows. It's a shame that so many players (especially guitarists!) are disdainful of theory. I'll say something at a jam like, "...it's a minor 6 chord," and you often get that, "Well LA-DI-DA, hey Bob, Twinkletoes here says I should play a 'minor 6, hahahaha..." And yeah I subbed.
This was very helpful. That A chord that is played like a C chord was used all over the place in the 1970's. I have heard Vic Conte of Tower Of Power use it in So Very Hard To Go and I have heard Neal Schon use it in Lights. I think Jimi Hendrix used it in The Wind Cries Mary, but that was 1966. This video really shines a light on it. Thank you Desi Serna.
I have a whole video playlist of songs that use the C form and other forms from the CAGED system. The Wind Cries Mary is induced. ua-cam.com/play/PL2C9326E97708A423.html
I have wanted to learn that lick and this song properly for many years and today I finally got it. You have nailed it here and truly enjoyed your teaching style and method. Subscribe? Done done it. Many thanks....
