do you worry that budgeting has or will make you boring??

I feel like budgeting has just made me more accountable to myself and my goals, and not so hung up on others' opinions. Maybe that *does* come across as boring to others... but who cares! I think the joy in getting a better handle on your finances is removing that overwhelming stressor that so many people would rather look the other way and ignore in the spirit of instant gratification.
      Such a great video!!

I also went through similar journey, spent until I was into my 30s. I feel like budgeting does make you look "boring", but it is a better financial outlook.

Budgeting reasonably and realistically has enriched my life. However, I recall a time when I took it too far it and it made me miserable. Prior to the COVID restrictions I watched a lot of Graham Stephen content and was living with a strong scarcity mindset, so I said no to so many things with friends so I could pick up extra serving shifts and hardly treated myself to anything fun. I remember feeling immense regret at how I'd spent my 20s so far when the restrictions began. Then I decided to play a game of "how little can I spend?" since I had even fewer opportunities to spend money during the pandemic. Guess what that did? It made me even more depressed! I've loosened the purse strings a little and have accepted that I will not go into financial ruin if I celebrate my efforts every once in a while. It's still a work-in-progress for me, but life isn't so boring anymore!

Budgeting has given me freedom. It's been a long and hard journey but I'm finally saving for a down payment for a house and saving for a wedding. I'm so thankful for sticking it out when I wanted to just give up. I keep having to remind myself I'm living the life I dreamed of back when I was 20.

My friend said to me the other day, "not everyone loves to look at numbers and money all the time" and that was in reference to me talking about my budgeting and where my money is going. I began creating a stricter budget where everything is allocated (investing, retirement, savings, gas, etc.) except for $30, which is personal money. I do not spend money on personal things often, but I find it to be an important aspect of the journey. I do not think budgeting has made me boring, mainly because I have a friend group that understands how much I care about a budget and we find ways to hang out and stuff to do that doesn't require a lot of money. For example, we went out to eat last week to a restaurant, which is not really "money efficient" when compared to being able to making food at home, but I value the experience and that's where the "personal" money from the budget takes place. It is a "low" amount, which can be saved up from week to week if you plan to do something larger.
One last thought on budgeting, the hardest concept that I still have a hard time grasping is sometimes you just need time... I graduated college last May and have a job in accounting and my main goal is to build up my investing portfolio and to pay off student loans. I have been sticking to a budget and never go against it, and I have a time frame to when I will pay off my student loans, but I have done everything I can do right now, and it will just take time from working to reach this goal.

Love this topic so much! I feel very much the same - budgeting is easier and actually feels fun now because it aligns with my values and preferences more. I value simplicity and stability so much more, so it doesn't feel like deprivation to not order UberEats, it feels like a joy to get to cook new and interesting meals for myself. I truly believe that budgeting is one of the best forms of self-care 💖This mindset shift has made budgeting feel like way less of a grind and way more fun!

I started budgeting with cash envelopes 4 weeks ago and I love it. I am having so much fun. My only regret is that I did not start when I was younger. It makes me want to save . It makes me feel free to know I am working towards financial security.

Great point Zoe! Sometimes following a budget doesn’t seam exciting when I’m saying no to things I want, BUT the peace of mind I have paying my bills on time & seeing progress w/ my finances each month is so worth the trade off!

As a spender i know that addiction to the highs of spending and having a good time. The lows make you greedy for the highs which keeps you in that perpetual cycle. Watching you makes me feel like I have a friend who’s in this savings journey with me.

Budgeting has been a LIFE changer (and you have helped me so much along the way.) I don't think it makes you boring, if being more control of your life is boring then oh well! The right people will be supportive and encourage you on your journey instead of trying to change you. On that note, budgeting can also make things exciting. You can see a goal panning out and you can get a sense of accomplishment and build so much confidence when your finances are coming together. It is so freeing!

As someone who is in so much debt that I’m trying to pay off, I LOVE BUDGETING. I feel so much more secure in my day to day. I found my love for cooking and grocery shopping, reading in bed at night and planning/curating trips all within a budget. So less stressed out even though I have so much more to go. And there is so many fun free/inexpensive things to do like going to the beach, walks, parks, going for a coffee (cuz you can now that you’ve budgeted!) etc. 💞

Your channel feels honest and authentic especially when watching your growth!! Feel like the biggest sign of doing okay in adulthood is embracing boring and mundane. Boring = secure, peaceful, choice whereas exciting = stress, chaos. In adulthood you want mostly boring with a little excitement sprinkled here and there! ❤️

I feel like for me, budgeting is empowering. Before I started budgeting I always wondered where my money went and I wasn’t that great at saving. Now I save majority of my income and spend pretty freely because I know the important things are taken care of. Budgeting doesn’t always have to be restrictive. I love to travel so I budget a lot for that 😂 it’s important to save for the future but we also have to live the life we have now💕

I experience the same with my college friends. I was the only one in my friend group that needed to take out student loans and I was the only one who had a job the first three years of school. I was so jealous that I didn’t come from money and needed to work for my spending money unlike them but that’s not healthy and I know that now. I wish I knew how to budget when I was younger but I’m grateful I have the skills now!

I felt "boring" too after budgeting as I didn't really go out as much anymore or hang out with the people I used to because all they did was spend money and keep up with the Joneses. But I'm also 35 and I feel like I'm old enough to not care about that anymore. I'm more focused on retirement. But I applaud you for being so young and being so smart about your money. I was definitely NOT like that at your age. I was totally trying to keep up with the Joneses (also lived in L.A. so it didn't help) up until like two years ago!

I LOVE cash stuffing, and also find it really fun. The fact that it gives me a feeling of stability and security (after almost 2 decades of financial abuse) is honestly kind of a bonus? I am someone who is very happy when I know what to expect and when things are not chaotic. Cash stuffing and budgeting are just one piece of my peace.

I may be a slow learner, but it took me a long time to even realize what security was. I absolutely love stability. LOVE. I am late to the party (41…how did that happen?) but getting my debt paid off and my safety net built up and in a stable relationship is the most fun I’ve ever had. 😊

I'd rather be boring and lose friends than stay in debt and accumulate more date or delay paying off date by spending money in restaurants, clubs, parties, activities with friends etc.
They won't help me pay my debt, I'll be paying it all on my own after partying the night away hahaha. So no thanks
We will party and enjoy life when i am debt free.

We are throwing every available cent into our mortgage, we just want to be debt-free. I have noticed that I don't want to spend money anywhere we don't have to which means we don't really go out anywhere. We should be mortgage-free this year so it doesn't feel like forever but life definitely feels a bit boring lately.

yeah it's the same with people on body builder diets, food is such a social component in our lives. eating is like 30% more expensive than it was a few years ago so it's become such a major cost. i think as a whole all of canada is eat out way less now because of that and uber eats is like 30% surcharges these days its not what it used to be

I do not in fact need this useless tech i wont use often, or a game that doesnt keep my attention just so i can play online with you all. Theres free ways to spend time even if we are long distance friends.... Respect my time and money first, dont judge me for wanting to be secure.
