Ooooohhhh yea, the tipping culture is fully out of control. Being asked for a tip at McDonald’s completely floored me.

Love the themed potluck idea but you gotta do it with people who actually pull their weight and cook or else you’ll spend a lot 🙃 The grocery shopping online tip actually works. I usually end up spending $120+ per in person grocery trip and this recent online order I spent only $60 and even got a few pantry staples!

Same here😢 and guilt tripping. “We’d really like you to come on this trip”- from both my and my husbands parents. We try to explain to them we are not comfortable going into (further) debt to take a trip and keep getting complaints. It’s so frustrating. We got this !! Our consistency and “no”s will pay off

My tip is setting automatic payments close to your paycheck! I was able to switch a payment from the 9th to the 1st. That way, the money leaves my account right away and I don’t risk getting a payment bounce by accidentally using that money elsewhere

Love this video! Excited for the financial era again! As I become a proper adult, budgeting has become so crucial. After trying many tools, I've found that using a spreadsheet is super helpful! No template I came across worked so I made my own. It's literally just a list of all of my monthly reoccurring expenses and which bank/card they're being charged to. At the bottom, I have a totals for my annual expenses, monthly expenses, monthly expenses before the 15th, and monthly expenses after the 15th. I then subtract the total monthly number from my monthly income and that's "spending money" (I have savings set as a monthly "expense").
Also, adding fun colors makes me want to use it more. Like the borders on my spreadsheet are hot pink haha

I save my spare change - the day before I’m paid, I check my balance and transfer the change to the nearest €5 to my online savings account, ie €398.45 so I’ll save 3.45 and so on. Same with loose change, all my coins that I have (and find on dog walks) they all go into a piggy bank and when it’s full, you could have over 200 without even feeling it ☺️ I’m saving for a house so I do have my sinking funds that I work towards so that I don’t deprive myself but that’s where my spare change goes towards is my house deposit - it all adds up ☺️

It's only been a 2024 habit, but I've actually lost weight and saved about $100! Weight loss wasn't apart of the plan, but now I'm realizing how much beer and wine effect my body. Curious to see how my drinking habits change throughout the year and how it affects my finances and health.

They had tipping at the merch stand at the Taylor Swift concert. I’m sorry, 15% or 18% on a $60/$80 item? Did they design it? Did they sew it? 😅
And the restaurants have gotten wild with tipping. I live in California where the minimum wage is $15 not like $2. I’m not saying I don’t tip but I don’t tip the 18-20% anymore. It shouldn’t be based off the total, because some dishes are expensive but small to bring out. I’d feel better about tipping if I knew that the tips went to the kitchen as well, not just the server. Servers bring the food out and talk to us but it’s the cooks and dishwashers who make the food and plating possible.

Buying groceries online does save time and gas. The thing I don’t like about buying groceries online is that I can get bad ones on the fresh fruits or vegetables. I like to choose fresh fruits and vegetables personally so I get the good quality. For tipping, it does got out of control definitely. I only tip when I only dine in restaurants. When it’s take out or on the go, I would not tip.

All your financial videos are great advice. But I think what's missing in the world of finance videos is "How to increase your income". I imagine there is a huge bucket of people who would excel at budgeting and working towards financial goals IF they had the extra funds. If I'm living paycheck to paycheck, how do I have enough funds to tackle my financial goals?I think there should be more videos on how to create a bigger shovel to dig yourself out. Let's say I have two kids and I work two blue collar jobs. How do I exit that and find a more stable 9-5 corporate job that pays more, has benefits, etc. I know every career has a different path but it would be insightful to see a video tackle okay step 1 of getting to that 100k job.

I absolutely do not agree with rent vs own when it comes to clothes. Most people don't wear their clothes just one time. Even if they have something set aside for special occasions like a wedding, most people can reuse this item for multiple weddings or events and/or trade clothes with others or buy pre-owned. I cannot imagine how stressful it would be to try and enjoy a special event with a rented dress you have to be paranoid about getting food or a drink on. Sounds like a solid way to ruine a rare experience.

I agree with lots of your points, but you lost me on the not tipping. I know tipping culture is out of control in the US, and it doesn’t make logical sense to tip when it’s self-serve. But it’s not the company you’re punishing by not tipping, it’s the low-wage workers. As a higher income earner, I feel social responsibility to be generous to low-wage workers as much as I can. I’m of the mindset that if you can’t or don’t want to tip, don’t go to that establishment at all.

I think it’s worth noting, though, that wage theft via businesses keeping customers’ “tips” is extremely common. I know most people won’t want to do this, in which case I would err on the side of tipping, but you can ask staff whether electronic tips actually go to them.

This one might be taboo but I'm a big fan of wear it then return it, that way it's a whole new outfit for $free.99! And let's be honest, it probably wasn't worth the price with the quality level of clothing these days anyway. I agree with you on tipping, if I self-served I will not be tipping! But if someone served me I do make sure to tip well cause we also aren't here for sub-livable wages. Shame on companies and our government for that one. Also, yea no I never round up or donate at check out. They're gonna donate a certain amount anyway and pocket whatever they get from you as a tax write off! Yuck!

lol you so smart how did u figure this out?
companies already plan on some amount it returns like they plan on some percentage of straight up theft - and honestly I’m not sure your behavior is not theft since What makes this not ok is that you KNOW in advance you’d return. Ewww!
If everyone takes your example and takes advantage of return privileges to give back clothes soaked in sweat or opened up makeup etc they’d have to mark up prices!
Have I returned stuff when I lived in countries where that was possible? Yeah. But I think about the likelihood that this stuff will have to be sent to landfill after my return! I’d never buy stuff planning to use and return? No! To do that, and repeatedly, no this is not right in my view and I would not do it. If I can’t afford something I save up. How is this not clear?
That clothes are low quality now and should not cost what they do isn’t a valid excuse. You can just not wear these things. Shop vintage or whatever it takes. Excuses don’t make sense
If you were homeless and stealing clothes to keep warm I’d have more sympathy for this. But to knowingly buy things use them soil them and return? You’re not a superhero just a petty thief
