Although, I'm not from England this film reminds me of how everyday people like me cope with harsh, cold reality. It's precious to have an imaginative and magical childhood before you reach an adulthood so you can stay strong to go through the hardship of life.
So sad that Lynne Frederick (Lucy) passed away at such a young age. I had forgotten that she was married to Peter Sellers at the time of his death. An expat in Florida.
Love this film have it on DVD . See it when I 8 was in 1972 at the pictures, fell in with Lynn Fredricks (Lucy) Watched about 30 times since then . "We three Kings of orient are " .
When I was a little kid in the 80s there was a stretch where this was on TV once a week for a month or two. Cant remember the channel, but I want to say early Nickelodeon. We had one of the old cable boxes that looked like a keyboard. Every channel had its own button. 😅. But i remember seeing this movie several times for that short stretch and I just loved it. I wanna say I was only 4, my sister wasnt born yet so 1986. Then it didn't come on anymore and I was so sad. Time went on and I'd forgotten the name of the movie and even the characters names. But I always remembered the story, the plot, and the music. Throughout my life I'd periodically describe the movie hoping someone would remember it, but nobody did. Then about 7 years ago I was 35 and saw a childhood friend who rode on the schoolbus with me when we were little. We were just having drinks and reminiscing about our childhoods and I decided to ask her if she remembered this movie. I described what I remembered and in an instant she goe "Oh? The Amazing Mr Blunden?". I leaped out of my seat because she was the first person in over 30 years that seemed familiar with what i was describing. Sure enough she was right. The personal nostalgia when I got a copy and was able to watch it again was epic. I own the special edition now. Looking back I'm surprised nobody remembered it all those years. Sure its not the best known movie but its certainly not unknown.
Not sure if this film ever played in the US - very British, after all. 😀 And hard to believe that was Diana Dors under all that makeup and costume, as I remember her only from her early days.
This is a fairy tale with wicked adults, greedy eyes, innocent children, and hero’s young and old. 🥺 And it is a tale of time travel, righting wrongs, ….and maybe magic. (Mrs Wikens is a weary nasty piece o work!)
Every child should be blessed to find an old, sprawling mansion that begs for exploration. Full of dusty books and cobweb covered attics. For me and my friends it was the ancient and abandoned Cumming's mansion in Tiftonia, Georgia. A massive testament to an antebellum era long gone. Full of lonely ghosts and long dead secrets. With overgrown marble pools flanked by lions, and marble fountains clogged with the dust of time. We snuck onto the estate and marveled at a hinted lifestyle none of us were privy to. Just poor kids with active imaginations and a sort of bravery that only the young are capable of summoning. I wish I could gift every screenlocked child with those sorts of sacred places. It's the sort of thing that you carry with you for a lifetime. So my suggestion to every parent, and to every child is this. Seek out such places and keep them close to your heart. They fuel the adventure of childhood, and remind us that the real world is overflowing with magic.
being realistic never truly helps anyone. the magic is in your imagination so keep imagining beautiful things no matter what. that is the sign of a strong soul. may you be blessed ❤
Enjoyed very much, didn't know any of the cast but they were all great. ♡'d it! ThnX 4-Upld w/Eng Language Subs 4Us Hard Of Hearing/Handicapped Old Folk. ;-*)
Steer well clear of the Mark Gatiss travesty "remake". This is definitive and needs no other. If you've never seen this, you're in for a treat. If you HAVE seen it, the same. Enjoy.
Did you know... The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life throught Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 You and I broke the law and Jesus paid the fine. God demonstrates his own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 Believe and repent today! The consequences are eternal.
Yaaay! I know this was made for kids, but I so loved it even though I'm in my 60s!
Thankyou 🎉
Thank you
My favorite childhood film plus swallows and Amazons and railway children ❤
Awesome movie

A brilliant piece of writing directing and co production from an old time comedy actor.Lionell Jefferys.A wee bit Terrypratchettesque I thought.

Charming if at time sad story. Worth watching for young and old alike especially in these times of the foul language laden scripts we get now.
I want to know, who cut the grass?
Very cute; Thank-You!
How enjoyable love the ending

Are u for real? Most kids have no chance at all at finding an old house to explore like what u just described
Please be realistic 💔
Beautifully said!
I was blessed to experience what you speak of and to this day exploring historic properties continues to bring out the child in me.

Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler
I've seen this film twice now and I loved it each time more and more. It's the happy ending we all wish for. Thank you for sharing this film. 😊😂❤
To many ads for me

Loved it. Adventurous, suspenseful, some horror with retched characters, but a lot of compassion and a happy ending.
The first comment I saw indicated not to watch this horrible movie. IT WAS NOT!!! I enjoyed it very much.
In fact ALL other comments were POSITIVE!!🎉🎉
😊❤I guess creative people with open-mind can enjoy this film.
Nice period piece if you can stand the whiney piercing violins and horns with the oboes as apologese and bombastic orchestral attempts.
Did they have screw on lids then😂
Too scary for me I'll be suffering from nightmares for the next month 🥺😱🙀😢💩☠😬🧟♂️🎃🧹⚠️📴📴🌰
Childrens’s film. Fair enough I suppose. Hemdale being desperate for success

Amen god bless us all🙏
I tried but they tried too hard. So I'm out.
What a terrible movie. Who would watch this?
This movie was wonderful. But then you are one of those ❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️
Traumatic film unsuitable for children!? Not many laughs. 😮
The railway children wasn't a comedy either.i found this delightful when I watched it around the age of 11 and am delighted to have found it again.
Kids can watch this and better if parents watch with them, to discuss it after. 👍👍
Such snowflakes. Get a grip. Kids love a scare. It's hardly the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. 🙄
Things didn't have to be dumbed down for children at one time. I saw this when I was 4 in the 80s and loved it.
