just watched this drama and was transfixed throughout. Really strong writing and acting from some greats of the UK stage & screen. Great upload thank you
Charles Dance during his Jewel in the Crown years, which I remember well. So beautiful, such a magnetic presence. One of those delightful British plays for television, thanks for uploading
Love seeing a young Tywin Lannister. Charles Dance engaged in a show documenting investigation into his ancestry and it's on youtube. very good. He said he was blessed with an aristocratic face, despite his meager upbringing. interesting man.
That was much better than I expected. Excellent. It was slow to start with and I almost started to get bored. I started to turn away, but I decided to hang in there and watch it to the end and I am so glad I did.
Love it. Charles D. can play both bad and good at the same time. Very difficult. Oh why do the rich cover up their psychopaths 😮 More please-Victorian mysteries.
One of the very best play for today's featuring Charles Dance is now on youtube "Rainy day women" Very rare and never released on dvd. An absolute masterpiece of screenplay well worth a watch. The poster is Mike B
Oh, I agree! Fantastic story. Deserves to be far,far better known. Should come with a health warning though. It took me years before I could watch it a second time, it's tough stuff. I can absolutely believe that even though it in particular wasn't a true story, that such things absolutely did happen during the war . A lot of it certainly happened in peacetime, the war just gives a cloak to hide the further extremes behind. Definitely definitely worth watching!
I had agirlfriend who was schizophrenic. I remember the astonishing physical strength and acts of violence which one could be sympathetic with in principle but which in reality were totally unacceptable. There was a toilet at some train station freuqently closed -she lost her cool and assaulted a British Rail guard about it, whacking him on the head with an umbrella and breaking the umbrella
For those who prefer more intellectual fare, the Thomas Wyatt poem is a plaintive, thinly veiled lament about his treatment at the hands of the self-seeking Anne Boleyn.
Furiously melodramatic musicemployed to hit us up the side of the head with intimation of SOMETHING BAD, lilting violins and Lady LALA soprano for sexual tension made me laugh out loud. (No offense to Murmuring & plucked harp etcetc. All fine actors - except the son - were apparently *directed* to pause extravagantly before speaking during conversations made everyone unnecessarily wooden & the whole thing silly. Poor Amanda Root's "mad" eyes. Lol
Fantastic production in every aspect but frankly I got lost towards the end . the interrelationship of the family got too confusing for me. Did the daughter turn to be the killer of the father? I don't want to roll back the last 15 min of the play to find out. Anyway nice to see how the aristocrats live 😃
29:00 At this stage, *I'd be running away from this family ...* First, the offer; then the motive for the offer ... and then, within next minute of this, by 30:00 - the implied warnings from the son of the house! Outsiders rarely do well in these troubled situations. Unless ...😮
Is this a frigging parody?? All the comments seem to be from older ladies who think Charles of the wooden hair is a heart-throb. Acting, script, direction - so bad it's embarrassing.
They are all emoting as if it’s a stage play. I find it very stilting. I have read that the really great actors literally became the person they were acting. That they never were playing a part. They were the person. I don’t see this happening in any of the characters in this play.
It is a stage play . ITV ( ITV production ) and BBC back in the 60's and 70's used to put on 300 plays a year . The BBC would place an advert in the Radio Times ( Their mag from 1922 ) asking people to send in scripts for plays and comedy shows , anybody could send in scripts and they would pick the best make them for their schedule .
Starts slow but stick with it. Brilliant due to plot n of course the marvelous chas dance, convo😂rting now with a postmenopausal woman or almost postmenopausal yet she of course is younger by about three decades and why not??. He like Michael Caine came from very meager background, which an American English is the lower classes, and yet because they were tall slender blonde and blue-eyed the English put them into roles of aristocracy. Interesting that. In America that doesn't quite happen that same way but then again we don't have many movies with roles for aristocrats.
not one of Bloom's better deliveries. The house is obscenely hideous. These people are vastly wealthy and their home looks like the cut rate basement furniture store. I guess that's the point.
It's really badly directed, poorly lit (or rather over lit) and at times the mic isn't picking up the actors lines very well. It might be intended to be melodramatic but the viewer would be better served by watching Acorn Antiques.
Wow! This was a good drama. And seeing such a young Charles Dance, and the wonderful Claire Bloom & Trevor Howard! Terrific. Thank you.
Sorry,yes:)
You can never be better than the Brits in neither fits nor TV series😊

Very good, Charles Dance is one of my favourite actors.
Oh yes! Easily so.
and now Charles Paris
Wonderful! Charles Dance was one of my favorite actors, so much grace and talent, tall and handsome. I particularly enjoyed this show.
Always loved Amanda Root. Her portrayal of Anne Elliott in Jane Austen's Persuasion was brilliant!
One of the best performances of any Austen character.
Can't be a serious name? Sounds more like a Bart Simpson prank call to the local bar. I can just imagine "I need Amanda Root"😂🤣

A wonderful murder mystery. Thank you for bringing this to us

Ooh..yes! That was good stuff 👍
What a refreshingly different murder mystery
I hope the actors had a lot of fun making this drama! Thanks for the upload. :)
Most enjoyable. Thank you.
Excellent play.
Very good indeed. A younger Charles Dance, as convincing as in his later days. I enjoyed it.
Good mystery.i love these old english plays.

Such a different era, interesting!
The yumminess that is Charles Dance...
More handsome with age…..

Wow! Amanda Root is so young. I loved her in Persuasion with Ciaran Hinds (my favorite version)
Amazing isn’t she? Steals the show in everything she does ❤
Thank very much ❤️🙋♀️🙏
This is one of the funniest things I've watched. Serious actors sending themselves up.
I thought I'd wandered into a parallel universe until I saw your comment. It's desperate!
Similar to Oliver Reed and Lewis Collins, Charles Dance is a great James Bond -who-never-was.
Lewis maybe, the other 2 definitely not😊
@@dobr4481 I'd rather have had Barry Howard.
He played Ian Fleming!! What more could you ask for?
Nah - he’s just an average actor at best. You need charisma to be Bond.

The third of six plays from the Granada anthology series 'Time For Murder'.
thanks for that info, hope we can find the series on UA-cam?
Murder always an attraction for script writers and actor/actresses as if there isnt enough in real life!
I always wondered about that. I think that thinking about fictional evil keeps us from truly feeling how horrible crime is becoming all around us.
Very enjoyable.
Curious how the part Charles Dance played required him to wear two of exactly the same ties I still own from that era…
Enjoyed this, always like to aee Charles Dance❤
Charles dance, fantastic presence but more importantly fantastic person, speaking out for humanity
Excellent
I kind of like these short stories 🎉🎉😊😊😊
Excellent drama.
I really liked Dance in Jewel in the Crown, 1984 and in The Crown.
the screeching background, yipes
I love Charles Dance..why are they hollering😂

The character of a man is easily assessed by seeing him help himself to a cigarette as a guest in a private house, and THEN, ask permission.
That was pretty good!
Awful soprano wailing background music. Mad aristocrats ...
Goodness, Claire Bloom was beautiful!
Over the top comedy.
I'm speechless 😮
Opera of Stiffs 🥶
Quite a gripping drama.
Charles Dance❤❤
The strangest mystery ever. And the strangest group of performers.
21:41 Holy Toledo. I thought the blue thing in the drawing was a blasted face mask. Yikes that nightmare will never end if the tyrants get their way.

great
Get me an aspirin somebody.
sound is off, music is overpowering
Teetering on the banal, Amanda Root saves the show.
very unusual story !! well produced ,acted, edited ...but did not like the eerie singing at all ! it would have been better without it
Almost 40 years ago but the actual production is so amateur!
The lightening may strike twice but that darn rowdy noise like a screaming banshee is atrocious so goodbye for now good actor or not !!!

The son is an appalling actor
If they ever needed a new Leo Howard in Howard's Way.......
But fab looking.
Amanda Root is the only performer to escape the director.

Is this a frigging parody?? All the comments seem to be from older ladies who think Charles of the wooden hair is a heart-throb. Acting, script, direction - so bad it's embarrassing.
Agreed. If the acting was any more wooden they would catch fire.
