One of the earliest hints of Portwell somehow ending up together at some point was in 1x04 the day they became friends Gina is wearing a Black Sweater that says “Love is that” in French (I looked it up what it translate to in English) with a Red Rose. Ironic enough they got together on Opening Night for Beauty and the Beast which is a famous French Love Story and Roses are important symbol in BATB. Maybe it’s just all a coincidence or they did this to foreshadow that they will end up together at some point.
Both of their characters developments are incredible!! I went from hating EJ to him being my fav character!!

This relationship I am more invested in then any of the others these two are so broken but at the same time so hole in their own way they bring so much for each other they give and take extensively they care so much about each other they are opposites and opposites attract in the most beautiful awkward way possible no matter how young or old you are! They are good for each other in the long run and if we get a season three no matter what relationship crap they get thrown at because they communicate with each other they’re good friends and they desire to have the same thing as far as each other…They could make it work even in the long run.
I really wish you included scene from the day they met at auditions they were literally standing right next to each other in a line.

Exactly some rina shippers argue that EJ is leaving and going to college when we don’t know where he is going. I feel like he is going to stay local because he is too afraid to leave his younger friends from the drama club behind based on his Senior speech in 2x12. I think he is going to go to the University of Utah which is literally 5 minutes away from East High in real life.

Imagine this scene written out as a story narrated by one of them - I was experimenting with it and here's what I ended up with:
The sound of the door jarred Gina out of a meditative quiet.
"It's open, Ash!" she called, still working the ball of knitting yarn in her lap. The knock came again and she got up, confused, tightening her robe over her pajamas. She wasn't sure who'd visiting at this hour until she opened the door to find --
"EJ." He stood in the torchlight, the Duke sweatshirt his dad had given him earlier wrapped loosely around his shoulders.
"Hey." He looked surprised to see her, but not displeased. "What are you doing here?"
"Um, I live here?" She let him in.
"Right. Sorry," he said "I'm a little out of it." They entered the living room and EJ unravelled the sweatshirt from his neck. "Hey, have you seen my cousin? I wanted to talk to her."
"Uh, Ash went to go buy a new shirt, or something? I didn't really ask."
EJ nodded. "Oh." There was an awkward pause.
"You wanna - you wanna help me with this?" she asked, gesturing to the pile of yarn she'd left on the couch. "Keeps getting tangled."
"Sure." He sat down next to her.
She handed him the yarn. "Just hold that..." She wangled for his company. Maybe it was the whole wonderstudy connection they had, but she always felt at ease around him. Though something seemed to be bothering him now.
"So, congrats on Duke," she said, trying to make conversation. "Why didn't you tell anyone?"
"I didn't really get in."
Gina looked at him, confused. "But your dad said--"
"I mean I did," he clarified. "But only because he made it happen."
That made more sense. He'd been just as surprised as anyone else. And it explained why he hadn't bragged about it much lately, which he probably would've been doing had he known about it sooner. Still, he didn't have a very gloating attitude now. "So you're in. Isn't that what you've always wanted?" she pressed.
EJ considered this Then he put the yarn on the coffee table and turned toward her. Gina could tell he was choosing his words carefully.
"I don't want to say this the wrong way," he began. "I am... incredibly grateful for the privilege. But I--"
"But you didn't earn it," Gina finished, understanding.
EJ nodded. "Exactly. It's just that my entire life has been mapped out for me for as long as I can remember, you know?"
"Not really," she responded. "I'm always one natural disaster away from landing in a new place."
"And what's that like?" he asked, curious
"Sometimes stressful, sometimes freeing." She'd contemplated it many times, wondering what her life would be like if her mom's job hadn't kept them moving around constantly Surely she wouldn't have the stress of never being able to to get too attached to a place without having to leave a few months later. But then, she also wouldn't have the reassurance that if a place was too much for her she wouldn't have to stay there long. This was life, she supposed, pros and cons to everything. "I don't really worry much about the future because I can't control it. I just try to forge ahead wherever I land."
"Well, you always seam to know what you want," EJ pointed out.
That was true enough. "Okay, so what do you want?" she asked him.
EJ was quiet for a moment. "I don't know," he said finally.
Gina put the yarn aside, suddenly struck by inspiration. "Okay, Close your eyes," she told him. "Yeah." She laughed at the skeptical look on his face. but he complied, taking a deep breath and shutting his eyelids. She couldn't help but notice how vulnerable he looked this way.
"So EJ," she said. "When you think about you life, what do you see?"
Keeping his eyes shut, he answered, "I see a guy who cheated at water polo, and who tried to bribe miss Jenn into giving him the part of Troy." He opened his eyes, a regretful look on his face. "And-- there's more."
Something in his expression made Gina's heart twist. No wonder he seemed so different lately. He'd been sitting in self regret. Gina remembered all the times she felt overwhelmed with similar insecurities, wondering if she deserved anything that came to her her, or if any of it was fair. None of that had stopped her from fighting for what she wanted, though; Gabriella, even Ricky. EJ was right about that: she always knew what she wanted. Even if she didn't get it, she still tried.
But then again, so did he.
"My turn," she said. If he couldn't find the good in himself, she'd have to show him.
EJ looked doubtful. "Can't wait."
"When I think of you, I see the guy who bought me a plane ticket back to East High so that I could be a part of the show. I see a guy whose birthday video for Carlos made everybody cry." EJ smiled a little. "I see a guy who tries really hard to do the right thing. And he fails a lot. But he keeps on trying." She recalled the surprise she'd felt when he'd texted her that day about the last--minute flight. Surprise and gratitude, for EJ Caswell wasn't so self--centered after all.
He stared at her. "That's what you think of me?"
She took a deep breath. When she spoke again, her voice was slightly shaky with emotion, though she wasn't sure why. "EJ, you are a really good guy. I think if you just forgave yourself a little you'd see what I-- the rest of us see," she corrected herself. "And then maybe you'd recover from all your exhausting good fortune."
They laughed. "Yeah, that's fair," EJ said reluctantly. A moment of quiet followed and their eyes met.
"Do you want to know what I see right now?" he asked her.
"No," Gina said quickly. She laughed self--consciously. "You don't have to do that." Her counseling sessions were a one--way street.
EJ told her anyway. "When I think of you, I see one of the bravest people I know."
One thing EJ never failed at: surprising her. She felt herself trying not to blush as she smiled at him. Before either of the could say anything more, they heard the sound of the front door open and close. A moment later Ashlyn walked in the room.
"Hey, Roomie," she said. "Hey, Eej. I just got your text. You wanted to talk?"
EJ glanced at Gina and seemed to find an answer there. "Thanks. I think I'm okay now."
EJ stayed while Ash went off to Big Red's, and it was just him and Gina. They talked a bit more, watching TV, neither of them really wanting the moment to end. Eventually Gina laid her head down and fell asleep.
EJ clicked off the TV, then grabbed his Duke sweatshirt and covered her upper body with it, smiling down on her. He was still smiling as he turned off the lamp and walked out the door, all the way to his car. When he got home, he confessed his decision to his dad.
"I'm not going to Duke."

i don’t know how i just realized this, but i noticed a cool parallel between EJ and Nini, when Nini found out about the deviled egg incident, she was upset because she didn’t earn the lead role, she got to play it because someone else got it for her, and she wanted to get it because she got it. similar to EJ, when he didn’t want to go to Duke because he didn’t earn it, his dad got him in for him. i don’t ship EJ and Nini, i just think it’s interesting because in season 1 that relationship was kind of like a joke in the series, but now i realize that Nini helped him realize a lot of stuff about himself. like how he said he didn’t want to lie and keep things from people, he didn’t feel the need to be “perfect” anymore. god i love EJ’s development so much in this series and i hope they don’t screw him up if there’s a third season now that he’s graduated. also i love this video!! portwell is such an adorable ship and i’m so glad they kissed! (even if we didn’t get to see it)
