This was beautiful and heartbreaking. They deserved more. No matter what I’ll always stand by the fact that EJ and Gina are meant for each other. I don’t care what anyone says. Ricky is not it. He only wanted to spend time with Gina and be there for her only when he started to like her. Only when it was convenient for him. EJ has been there pretty much since the beginning and even when he started liking her, he wasn’t expecting anything out of it because of his fear of getting rejected again. He genuinely just wanted to make sure Gina was taken care of. Whether his gestures were big or small, he just wants the best for her. And EJ fought all season to make sure that her talent was recognized, to make sure they’d have a whole year together after he proved to his dad that he could do great things. But the show tried making EJ look like the villain. All Ricky’s wrong doings were ignored this season and all EJ’s good doings were ignored. Portwell’s whole relationship was just thrown away just for rina. I’m honestly just trying to forget season three exists or at least the second half of it because I love them so much and their ending was ridiculous. I want to believe that they are happy together. I just need to stay in my own little happy portwell world. They mean everything to me.

@@anniebee5857 it’s not fair that he had to go through so much stress this season. He was already going through it in season two but the amount of responsibility they put on this kid was just too much.

EJ AND GINA ARE MEANT TO BE TOGETHER
Don't get me wrong I love Rina, they cute and all. But something about Gina and EJ was just special like they saw each other in such a way that made my heart melt. Like their friendship shifting into a relationship was so pure and when they broke up, I fully sobbed.
I hate the way the writers treated Portwell this past season. According to Tim he has been planning the Rina kiss for season 3 finale since he saw the chemistry between Josh and Sofia in Homecoming. If the writers really had plans to make Rina the endgame they should of never made Portwell a thing because I think it’s unfair for EJ to lose two girlfriends to same guy in less than a year. Portwell deserves better. They could of easily made their relationship work if they just talk things out to hear each other out. I think it’s stupid that the writers made it seem like Gina never had feelings for EJ when we had a whole realization scene in 2x09.
Same, is it strange I wanna see Ej punch Ricky? Ok not punch him but like stand up to him and tell him what he’s feeling and all that

I think she'll always have love for ej especially bc that was her first maybe not her first love but she definitely loved him and I agree all that build up just too do that nah but yeah
I also find it really unrealistic how Gina wouldnt be there by his side supporting him with directing and planning everything since she likes to be in control and has extensive theater background. So many of the characters felt out of character this season.

Portwell is better than Rina. Plus most Portwell shippers are a lot more friendlier and nicer than most Rina shippers who can be toxic sometimes.

No I understand where u coming from and I'm a rina shipper and dont get me wrong I'm happy they got their ending bc it was such an development but they were good together and I wish they lasted up until the beginning of season 4 at least bc it would make sense long distance u know but ig they was so good together plus their chemistry was amazing they will be missed😭🤷🏽

Unpopular Opinion (Im gonna get attacked) but I think portwell was a bit toxic but it was the damn writers. s2 they were PERFECT and s3 like writers got lazy

They were such a great couple and they were so perfect in season 2 and then season 3 they sadly broke up and i thought that if they were gonna break them up they will at least do it in season 4 and no offense but it was a stupid reason why they broke up. They made Ej look like a bad boyfriend in season 3. He just wanted a perfect show for Gina and the others which is why he didn't spend much time with Gina and it was so unlike her character to not support or help him and it was only for two weeks after that Ej would of had the rest of the summer to be with her and he would of been neighbors with her. I could tell he was really hurt when they broke up and they made Gina move on so fast like 12 seconds after she broke up with him she ran to Ricky and rina fans don't come at me but Rina would of never happened if Olivia never left and Portwell would have probably been endgame. Rini were the orginal troy and Gabriella but now Ricky and Gina are the troy and Gabriella. I'm not trying to say i hate Rina sure there cute but in my opinion portwell were cuter, i'm glad we had a few cute moments in season 3 of Portwell but they deserved so much more
Nothing against josh but i hate ricky. I mean, he always acts like he doesn’t get anything but he’s the most spoiled character!!, like gina had eyes for Ricky for 2 seasons but ricky literally ignored his unresolved feelings. Like ricky literally he was like “don’t talk gina nini’s talking”. Otherwise why would you chase another girl ten seconds after you breakup with your girlfriend??!! And right when gina started dating ej ricky was starting to like her I demand a fifth season to give portwell a second chance I don’t care about anything good they say about rina portwell is endgame!!!!!
Okay so I didn't watch season 3 because I knew they broke up. I didn't think it was going to be this bad. Like why isn't Gina understanding? Everything he's doing he's doing it for her so they can be together. I'd be so mad if I was him. I'd quit directing and just got home. And as if she needed to rub salt in the wound she ends up dating Ricky?!? The guy that always gave weird vibes. I'm glad I didn't see this season.
I'm so sorry about the rant I'm about to go on but I hated s3. EJ didn't want to be a director for the camp and was looking forward to a relaxing, fun summer with his friends and girlfriend. Then he was suddenly thrown into the director's chair with lots of pressure from his dad and everyone else. He was so focused on directing well because he wanted Gina to have a good time with her first time as the lead and to make sure he could stay in Salt Lake with her.
Maybe he didn't always do the right thing in season 3 but the show itself said he was the "doing the wrong thing for the right reasons" kind of guy yet was still a "good guy who can't forgive himself". It's kind of stupid how everyone knew he was struggling horribly but no one tried to lighten the load, ESPECIALLY Gina, who could relate to his parent pressuring him due to her own mom and knew him the best. She saw him at his worst and even told him she could see he was a great, caring guy. They had connected so much on an emotional level with a friendship built on trust and it's all thrown away in season 3.
What's worse is that EJ was made out to be the bad guy who hurt Gina and Ricky this 'super' good guy who "always" cared about Gina when it was the opposite in seasons 1-2. I can't describe how horrible I feel for EJ because imagine losing two girls to the same guy within one year..? No matter what, EJ deserves WAY better.
@@OneRandomSam At least we got some type of closure in season 4 but I wish it ended with them being closer because now they are just strangers with history. I would have rathered them not date at all and stay best friends than this.
He didn’t have to be director. EJ chose a demanding job without consulting by his gf because it was going to allow him to prove something. He didn’t do this for her, he used her as an excuse. He didn’t ask Gina to help him, he asked Val.
And it takes a long time to understand that, but when you get older you recognize that if you are doing something for someone instead of with them, you are not reallly being as selfless as you claim. EJ wasn’t ready for a real relationship. This is why he lost both his gfs, he constantly lies and isn’t present. He takes it upon himself to be there for them but not with them. He wants to create a perfect life, but it falls apart because he can’t see that he’s ignoring everything in front of him.
Love is that hard, but most people are like EJ. They want to do everything right but forget that a relationship is about doing everything together.

20:15 ish she really got pressed about not knowing what EJ stands for omg. Like I love Gina but come on. Something as trivial as that should not be another reason to get angrier at him.
And then proceeds with her "acting like your old self. Or maybe it's your real self" talk even though she KNEW him at his worst and TOLD him that despite it she forgave him, liked him, and knew he was a good guy, even though back then he didnt think that way about himself... What were the writers doing? It just makes her seem like she never meant those words in season 2.
EJ was never a perfect guy and usually doing the wrong thing for the right reasons - the show said that itself. But he grew over seasons 1 and 2 into something better. He learned and grew, and said himself was ready for a fresh start (not romantically, just as a person) from Nini when they broke up.
Gina KNEW and could even relate to EJ about his dad and how much pressure he was feeling and she did try to cheer him up but no one, not even her, actively tried HELPING him. No one tried helping him that night when he stayed in the tent nearly imploding how much stress he was feeling and he had to go through all of this unwanted and sudden pressure basically alone. Positive affirmations from Gina were better than nothing but it ultimately didn't help him finish what needed to get done. I dont blame Gina or anyone else for not doing that ofc, because the point is that he had to do all that by himself.
How is it that he had to put together a production, direct it, make sure Gina had a good time as the lead actress, etc., face the fear of disappointing his dad, and trying not to move out of Salt Lake/leave his friends and then ALSO get dragged for not always "being there for Gina". How is it that he's accused for not caring about her enough when in season 2 his caring/considerate actions WERE THE REASON that she started liking him? He was sweet to her without an expectation of anything in return and she knew that (remember Carlo's birthday scene?) and liked it. They saw each other at their WORST and still could connect over their home lives, their parent's expectations, and whatever else. They built up a mutual trust, understanding, and friendship even before they started liking each other - they werent like Nini and Ricky with bad communication skills and misunderstandings (excdpt once at the end of season 2 for the drama) and it doesnt make sense they'd start acting like Ricky and Nini in season 3. And yet suddenly he's a bad boyfriend and friend for trying to make the musical go as smoothly as possible and choosing to prioritize that over camp fun? He didn't WANT to do that but he literally HAD to, and it's like no one understood that. And not even a thank you for putting everything together?
I get so pissed about this because they really tried making him look like a bad guy in season 3. They really tried convincing us that Ricky liked Gina and was jealous of EJ as soon as he got to the camp even though they all hadn't seen each other since school let out and he had been dating someone else entirely at that point?? Even though Ricky constantly disregarded her and didn't address her crush on him in season 2 and only came to her when he needed to rant about something, especially when Nini wasn't available... to the point that in season 2 Gina lost hope in him and got rightfully frustrated with him because of it. Ricky had always expected her to be there for her when he called and EJ remembered the small things about her without expecting anything in return. That was their fundamental differences in season 2 and why Gina really liked EJ. But it was all thrown out the window in season 3 and for what? A watered down, already-been-done love triangle between the same two guys? Pleaseee
I’m so glad that I’m not the only one feeling this way. I keep seeing these comments saying “Rina all the way!” and I’m like…..did you not see how he treated her? Doesn’t she deserve BETTER?! Isn’t EJ SO much BETTER for her?!

Not to mention the fact that suddenly Ricky was “always a yes” for her even though she was DEFINITELY heavily in-like with EJ and completely over Ricky by the end of season 2.... I just feel like the writers really backtracked and are super inconsistent with some stuff and it’s so frustrating
@@OneRandomSam I agree! I think the writers thought that Ricky still needed to be one of the main character. And since Gina was becoming more of the main character, they thought it would make more sense for them to be together, because they had a will they won’t they in season one. Not to mention EJ and Gina being together as the main ship in season four would’ve been difficult because EJ wasn’t at East High (so they can’t be cast as main characters in the musical they were producing, have many scenes physically together, etc)
I never watch this series..like ever,but when i see gina with both ricky and ej,i can see that the feeling is strong here..starting from faking then finding love..but i guess ricky getting involved with this two and again,ej have heartbroken ..if I'm gina i definitely choose ej..😢😢 but i guess ej deserve better rite❤

Bruh it’s so funny that it thought of finally catching up on hsmtms (half of s2 on ward) bc the gina/ej storyline intrigued me and than than i saw what happened in s3 and decided its not worth it. Not just bc of them but with ricky… which is something else. Why does he get every lead since starting?? And why wont the writers let him be single??? He needs it.
Omg I really laughed reading this. Ricky just needs to be single, not the lead, and stop getting himself drawn into all this drama. This guy can’t take it all
this is my take but i think the biggest problem with season 3 was the pacing. compared to the other seasons (that took place over the span of 3-4 months) this whole season happened over the course of 2 weeks (which felt like months tbh as a viewer) but it was still just two weeks (without counting the one month time jump at the very end). it just felt a bit inconsistent and rushed like the writers thought they were writing a season like the previous ones and forgot about the right pacing and timing.

I really loved Portwell and still do even though I ship Rina as well but honestly after season 4 tbh their breakup makes sense. Ej is so busy in college with jobs, classes and club etc. Gina wants to be a priority in her relationships (nothing wrong with that as I want it too). Ej couldn’t give her even during season 3 because he was preparing for college and in season 4 he definitely wouldn’t have with everything he has going on. They were cute but they were never going to last.

if EJ Caswen and Ricky Bowen will open up their past about their family drama to each other and be there for each other and I agree with EJ to learn about Ricky about taking A duet classes together and EJ will found out about Ricky's home life from Ricky's past in Season 4 - Season 5 and of course Season 6 from HSMTMTS and deep down I feel bad and sorry for Gina about what she’s going through about her family drama and moving away in deeply
I doubt their won’t be a another seas after season 4. Season 4 should be the last and final season due to ej is graduating high school and no longer as a main character since he won’t be in season 4 along with nini.
He will be a recurring character and maybe season 4 is the finale of the series

They started off as schemers.
They never established trust.
They were each others rebounds.
They talked deep once.
They never were on the same page.
They barely talked until EJ randomly (and I say this is best because he obviously found her attractive and they have some in common but mostly she was single and sad and he was too), and her and Ricky talked more than her and EJ.
They never were confortable and just said all the right things to each other.
There so much more, but wow, this couple was destined to fail. Like he acts like her big brother half the time.
I think if I was younger, I would see this as the good relationship, but it was fake like a fairytale. He was her Prince Charming (Hans) and she was the princess needing to be saved (Anna). No one is evil, just wrong. I’ve been in a relationship like this. And it failed too, because it wasn’t real.
